  2. Are you using a carbon Specialized cage? I used a nylon/plastic one for years without it breaking. The Profile Design one also worked perfectly for me.

  4. +1 for Gobi I also enjoy the Sella Italia Flite
  5. No, they invented Marathon races!
  6. The problem comes when dirt gets inside the outer, and creates enough resistance that the derailleur spring doesn't have enough force to pull the cable back through the outer, resulting in sloppy shifting.
  7. T.I.T.S. ?
  8. I always use the free shipping. it takes about a week and a half to my post office.
  9. I do that too. Much better than getting up during the night and disturbing your partner. Problem is that I keep a bottle of water next to me because I wake up thirsty during the night. I just have to remember not to drink from the warm bottle!
  10. For me the bike wash is the biggest pain, as well as running around trying to get your bike repaired when something goes wrong (I fall a lot ). This year I'm using Hatton's Cycles. R350 per bike per day. Wash, lube and complete check-up including bolts tension (and obviously any repairs that need to be done). Dushan from Hatton's no. is 0786934007.
  11. Don't forget the good earplugs. It's impossible to sleep with people talking, laughing, snoring and farting in the tents all around you, as well as the tent zippers going up and down all night when people get up to take a pee.
  12. I've owned two sets of SLR's the only issue I've had is that occasionally I had to remove the freebody and lube the rubber seal behind it. Really a two minute job. Otherwise no problems at all - light and super stiff. I wouldn't know about the nipples seizing because I've never needed to true one ever! They're also great if you want to use non-tubeless tyres running tubeless. All the tyres I have tried fit snugly onto the rim with no burping.
  13. Definitely the best race I have done. The route is better than Sani and Wines2Whales imho. But unless you are a beginner, or total Roadie, I would definitely recommend the 3 day "Descent". The singletrack on top of the mountain is worth the entry fee alone, let alone the descent down the escarpment itself.
  14. More proof that Cape Town is way ahead of the rest of the country...now I just need to find a job and I'm there!
  15. "Through the streets of Westville" might mean going off the M19 at Westville North, going down Blair Atholl across to the M13?

    PE for me!
  17. A lot depends on the rim and tyre combination. I ran non-tubless Maxxis Monorails on my Mavic Crossmax SLR's for two years with absolutely no problems Well done on loosing the tubes, welcome to the world of tubeless.
  18. Exactly, just jump before the speed bump, and land going down the back of it. The tricky part is to learn to vary the timing of your jump according to your speed.
  19. Merida - R30,000 for 3000-D, Shimano XT / Fox specced carbon 29er
  20. Gr00tbaas, good luck whith your team. But I think you need to change your attitude.
  21. It is quite interesting that you say you are cardiovascular fit, but your legs are suffering. Maybe you tend to grind heavy gears. You should rather ride slightly lighter gears and "spin" more. That will take the strain off your legs and use your cardiovascular system more. Remember that your heart muscles are the fittest muscles in your body.
  22. The old CB pedals all had bearings on the outboard side of the pedal and bushings inboard side, which obviously wear and need to be replaced. They where also not air and watertight, which meant that dust and mud eventually got into the bearings and bushings. The new models are airtight/watertight and have a 2 or 5 year warranty depending on the model.
  23. R685 for a pair on buycycle.co.za
  24. I'm sure the X0 chainrings fit.
  25. The Polar is a great unit. I had a have used Polar for many years without any serious issues. The local agents have been brilliant with any minor problems that I have had.
