  1. Got little Patensie (3.5) a JD-bug. Happy with it. Will be passed on his little sister, who's 19 months and really enjoys her Y-bike Peewee (bought second hand). She'll progress to her brother's y-bike original as soon as we get him not to be over-possessive on his old bike (#IemandGaanNogPakslaeKry).
  2. The other day i TRIED to chase a guy on a bFe down gspot on my SC 5010. I took all the shortcuts just catch up to tell him his was the smoothest riding I've EVER seen. 26 aint dead. Bjarraful. Single speed as well.
  3. Had the triple tonight. Awesome stuff, Hertog Jan!
  4. Last year I got a somewhat abused 2nd hand 20" Scott Spark for when my laaitie turns 5 in 2017 for R1000.
  5. Agreed - he feels the same. The red was supposed to be a black base layer & rust proofing paint...
  6. Guys, my boet looking for some colour scheme ideas on the exterior...any help?
  7. My brother is busy restoring one of these. Spent a whole Saturday sanding the large body parts, had the small bits sandblasted. Then got one of the farm-workers (Andries is an extremely competent guy) to spray paint the base layer. Well after a mix-up, one of the other workers convinced Andries that he must use a different paint, which turned out to be the stuff they use to mark their mass crates in which they pick citrus... Splitty turned out SIGNAL RED. Wrong colour of non-metal paint. Have to re-do. Now, if you know the 4 characters involved (Andries, the other farm worker (Jan), my boet & dad) this is roll-on-the-floor-sh*t-your-pants-funny stuff. My boet says the worst part is telling Andries that the job he was so proud of was all for nothing... That red is RED. (Will try to load a pic - struggling to do on pc, don't know why.)
  8. Currently running WTB Vigilante 2.3 F. Wolverine 2.2 R. Will probably replace with same when the time comes, which will be the first repeat tyres in all my years of cycling. Only other tyres I'd consider would be onza Ibex F and Canis R (which will be a repeat as well).
  9. I know that surgeon: Seen him "operate" on an impala in my mom's kitchen. That buck never looked better. Unreal. RM: For 5kg mincing, a Kenwood Chef with a mincer attachment works great. Mine is a 25yr old unit my mom discarded. I refuse to buy minced meat. Normally get a good hunk of beef and mince that. 2 to 3 kgs at a time. A dedicated boning knife also helps a lot (says the guy that sommer uses a pairing knife to debone stuff).
  10. One of my cousins is somewhat of a South African celebrity chef. Published a few cookbooks and does culinary tours in France. Last time we spoke, she recommended gas hob/electric oven. If money wasn't a consideration, I'd get myself one of those new electric "smart" AGAs, but at GBP 9000+ it is out of my league. We're planning to redo our kitchen in the next two years, so I'm doing research as well. Like the look of the Falcon range, Lacanche also nice (PRICY). Might even consider a medium duty industrial cooker (check out www.culinary.co.za)
  11. I have to come clean: I love Triggerfish. We had Triggerfish's 2015 Crazy Diamond for my mom's 70th. Remains a favourite, but at R250 per 750ml bottle it is strictly for special occasions. Hopefully I can get round to the brewery over the week-end as they made a few different stouts. The Black Marlin (Imperial Russian stout) is simply amazing. The most interesting beer I ever had was one from Eric's private stash: an intentionally sour beer aged in oak.
  12. I've ridden g-spot with my laaitie on the yellow star seat. All the way from the top he repeatedly shouting: "This is fun, this is fun. Pappa, bietjie rof ry." When we got home, he said "nog fiets ry"... OK, turn around, back to the top of g-spot we go (fortunately, we live only 500m away from the trail). Awesome time for both of us.
  13. Can't wait for the day my daughter is big enough to go for a ride. She's 14 months now, almost there...
  14. or the Feva star seat. Your 11 month old will be too young for this, but I started riding with my laaitie when he was 18/20 months old. He turned 3yrs old and we're still using it. He knows that he needs to "hou vas!" going down single-track. http://www.fevafoam.co.za/index.php/shop-v
  15. Yes they do. I dreamed about getting a 301, but being a hobbit, I would have had to get a 26er or at the very biggest, 26/650b. Not a problem in itself, except that I wanted to "future proof", which would be 650b all round.
  16. My wife's new Inbred frame built up from my parts bin on its first ride. Very lively and well balanced little bike. Need to thank Ryanpmb, JacBrand and 3 LBSs for the work done to get the build done! Also a big thumbs up to my wife for understanding the n+1 equation .
  17. If I remember correctly, the story goes that they wanted to use the song in the movie, but couldn't arrange the rights to do so.
  18. Liteville has been doing this for a while now: XS:24® & 26 (f) S: 26 & 26 M: 26 & 650b etc. Calling it "Scaled sizing" http://www.liteville.de/t/25_579.html
  19. Yes, our grandfather was the Dutch Reformed Church minister in the valley. Pastorie kinders are naughty. FvR takes after his old man (who still acts like an 18yr old at 80).
  20. FvR? (my cousin), first SA cadet on the Esmeralda.
  21. Early Sunday morning Jonkershoek coffee
  22. My new steed on the maiden ride: Santa Cruz 5010. Will do a proper review sometime. Thanks Wayne, Quintin and Sean at Outdoor Escape for the great advice and exceptional service. LOVE my new toy Edit typo
  23. Not today, but over the week-end: Had a frame crack on the full suspension, so took my old bird for a coffee date in Jonkershoek on Saturday. Rattled her dentures down Canaries... Then cheated on her the next day with a wild Banshee (awesome ride btw).
  24. +1, got one as well. My 2yr old laaitie loves it.
