  1. Probably "rugstring" - same as that I braaied here, i.e. the muscles along the back bone. Don't know the proper English term, that's why I called it loin.
  2. Tried some springbok loin the other day. On advice from a jagbedonnerde colleague, I marinated it in olive oil and lime juice, as well as yogurt (my own add-on).
  3. Jip, my boet's Makita stuff takes a proper beating on the farm, but they keep going. Guess I'll have to build up a Makita collection for my 6yr old laaitie...
  4. Guys, would you consider ryobi's 18v series (jigsaw, circ saw, reciprocal saw, 2 3Ah batteries, charger and angle grinder) all for less than R6000? Purely diy use. Makita will cost almost R20k. Will last me forever, but that's a lot of bike part money...
  5. Made me think of this:
  6. can't really go wrong with springbok fillet. Don't overcook. I prefer to panfry it on coals with a brandy flambe. Potjie wise, any good quality meat will do. Just add a bit of fat, bacon, etc. One of my colleagues once braaied bosvark ribs /hat was reaaaaaaaally nicely done.
  7. thought it was something baseball related, striked out or home run... not appropriate for a cycling forum
  8. it's a sauna... But a taxi driver asked waars jou broek!
  9. Me. Will be a straight ride home and not the normal G Spot detour (too much respect for Mark's work to go wreck it for a short rain ride). Got my high viz Jonson work ware reënklere, Hope it's as waterproof as advertised.
  10. yip, start a second fire & replace. Check my 1st pic
  11. Darem not all done yesterday!
  12. Very lightly rosemary smoked lamb rib with Nomu's African rub. Nice little condiment: cherry tomatoes fried/cooked in olive oil, salt, pepper, touch of mint. Works very well with the lamb & can also be a pasta sauce with basil pesto.
  13. Smoked pork neck with Cider (4.5hrs in the Cobb)
  14. Wish I could go on a hunt this year (work doesn't allow, too busy), post pics of the prey and do a moerse spitbraai just to cheese - they don't eat that either - them vegans off while wearing a mohair onderbroek and socks. Hunting is mos a gateway drug for murder...
  15. From a SC rider - intense has just so much more sexy
  16. my plan for tomorrow's lunch too: pulled pork with smoked paprika & coriander, apple cider gravy. Feeding guests, hoping for the best.
  17. agreed, but 720 is just too narrow for my 1.655m frame. 780 on my xc bike with a long 45 stem & loving it. 795 on the big boy bike. Crankbros mallets on the road bike. #broomstick #flatsftw
  18. check his left horn... I'll post another pic later. But on the worn-out question, how shall I put it: he is very 'productive'.
  19. All this talk of lamb and pork made me think of veld reared, organic beef. And the best place to braai it. (Pic 1: My dad and Stompie - one of the stud bulls)
  20. Yes, born and raised. My dad and brother farms there - citrus and nguni
  21. Kransie, die ingels werk nie altyd so lekker nie...
  22. Got an antique cast iron mortar and pestle. Heavy duty monster that makes light work of one braai/curry's whole spice. My laaitie really enjoyed moering the spices. Me too. Better than kicking the dog due to being angry or frustrated.
  23. I used yesterday's braai opportunity to start learning my six year old about roasting and using spices. First, we smelled the unroasted, "raw" spices, which doesn't smell like much. Then, after roasting, added everything in a thistle and mortar and started bashing them: first, the coriander, then a smell test, then pimento followed by a smell test, etc. He was intrigued and loved it. Loved bashing up everything into a powder even more! I sent him outside to pick a lemon and taught him how to use a peeler to get the rind, added some juice to my spice mix with smoked paprika and olive oil. This turned out to be a top marinade with chicken, which we braaied with some Boer and Butcher wors (can really recommend), aubergine and tomatoes. Also did baked potatoes in the coals. Paired very well with Triggerfish Roman Red amber ale.
  24. I have a 5010 and an OnOne inbred 26er. Granted, the inbred is not a proper almtn hardtail, but its fork is set at 120mm. It serves as the skoolbus - i take my laaitie to school on it - but ride proper trails in the afternoon back home on it. On my off days when my wife takes the klein k@k to school , i jump at the chance to ride the 5010. There are stuff that i will not ride on the OnOone and some stuff that the 5010 takes in its stride is damn right scary on the onbred.
