  1. Nope it was suicide. She hanged herself. Geez GOG, I really went off track on this here thread. Sorry OP!
  2. Yes, Rachel...extremely pretty lady, the first and about the only natural one ever. After her it just became a farce. Another favorite of mine was Shelley Beattie. Obviously also with a bit of help but she had the genetics and the face and did not overdo it too much. Sad that she took her own life.
  3. Yes I remember Gary Strydom, before and after the hair transplant thingie...also remembered that he had an extremely hot wife and that they allegedly split because she made him choose between her and the gym...hmmmmm I think the early 90's was a difficult time for bodybuilders, as the drug use was rampant because contest monies soared overnight (not unlike the pro peleton at similar time frame). Some top guys passed away in rather weird circumstances during that time, remember Munzer, Benaziza? Someone once remarked that it looked like a hospital backstage at pro level competitions. Drips everywhere. And there were federal laws against all this, but most of the top guys trained together (USA west coast) and got their "stuff" from the powers-that-be. The drug testing that was introduced was a farce; if you were not ass kissing you were done with. Again, similar to what we have today. And you do not talk out about it either, otherwise you will "break the code". We all know that this is not isolated to bodybuilding or cycling; it happens in most competitive sports. Anyway, here is something I found on the interwebs. Whether it is true or not I do not know, but it makes the cycling pro drug scene look a bit lame doesn't it? This is the last cycle that Andreas Munzer took before he died. He was 30 years old. Weeks 1-10 ephedrine aspirin clenbuterol valium captagon-- scheduled 1 drug in the US, meaning no legitimate medical use-- it is an amphetamine-type stimulant-- cytomel Weeks 1-5 500mg daily of test enanthate 3.5 grams a week 152mg daily of parabolan 150mg daily of dianabol 1 gram of dbol a week??? holy ****!!! 150mg daily of halotestin 20 IU daily of HGH 20 IU daily of Insulin Weeks 6-8 300mg daily of masteron 152mg daily of parabolan 250mg daily of winstrol tabs 150mg daily of halotestin 50mg daily of winstrol inj 24 IU daily of HGH Weeks 9-10 200mg daily of masteron 100mg daily of winny inj 200mg daily of halotestin 400mg daily of winny tabs 24 IU daily of HGH Insulin daily IGF-1 daily Days 1-3 leading up to show aldactone, lasix That he had space left in the tummy for normal food is beyond me. AFAIK Benaziza died of a lasix (diuretic) overdose.
  4. Found this on Wikipedia: Mentzer was an Objectivist and he insisted that philosophy and bodybuilding are one and the same. He said "Man, is an indivisible entity, an integrated unit of mind and body." Thus, his books contain as much philosophy as they do bodybuilding information. Some time later, Mentzer attracted more attention when he introduced Dorian Yates to high-intensity training, and put him through his first series of workouts in the early '90s.[1] Yates went on to win the Mr. Olympia six consecutive times, from 1992–1997. Mike had met Dorian Yates in the 1980s and made an impression on Dorian's budding body building career. Years later when Yates won Joe Weider's "Mr. Olympia", he credited Mike's "Heavy Duty" principles for his training. Mike, his brother Ray, and Dorian formed a clothing company called "MYM" for Mentzer Yates Mentzer, also known as "Heavy Duty Inc", in 1994.
  5. Now that name brings back memories! What he realised was that if you could not do another rep, you probably could. And he did those reps, because they were the important ones. Only other person I can think of that also used (almost) that approach was Dorian Yates?
  6. Some wise words being said here. It is not just about losing unwanted fat weight; that is just the side-effect. It is mainly about getting your health in order and sorting out typical western lifestyle diseases: high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, sugar and fat metabolism disorders. Atkins wrote a book explaining how nutrition is supposed to work. http://www.amazon.com/Dr-Atkins-Vita-Nutrient-Solution-Natures/dp/0684844885 A worthwhile read. Very little theory in there, lots of practice.
  7. Nice gravel climbs on the Mexican side. Or is that the other side. The far side?
  8. Why do you pay more for the 56/29km mtb than for the 19km trail run?
  9. Hmmm, I will most probably be stupid enough to enter yet again.
  10. Thanks for the info Gummi. Cool watch collection Wayne. Hang on to the Omega. Here is a pic of the old lady. Still 'ticking' away like a mosquito in heat.
  11. It uses a battery and has a tuning fork that resonates to keep accurate time. Similar to Bulova Accutron I believe. The good old days before quartz crystal. I will dust mine off and post a pic. http://forums.watchuseek.com/attachments/f20/623048d1328841182-my-new-connie-f300-electronic-battery-question-omegaad.jpg
  12. I think if you have H-cups you will have trouble finding your G-spot.
  13. Those rings might work but only on race-day. Training with them render the effect useless. Similar to heavy / light wheelset. Train heavy, race light, otherwise no benefit.
  14. I do not agree with littering of any kind. But, most if not all of the pro teams make use of Tacx water bottles, which are fully bio-degradable for that reason. Fortunately most discarded water bottles make it into some or other fan's collection. But it does not create a good impression in Joe Public's eyes. Which begs the question: why don't nutrition companies focus more on bio-degradable packaging for their products? And I do not mean recyclable, I mean bio-degradable.
  15. How much for the mtb options?
  16. I see our friends at Garmin have decided to postpone the Vector pedal release...grrrrrr
  17. Sad to hear this. This was my LBS until they closed. Merv and his dad helped me a lot when I started out mtbing. He always had a smile and a kind word.
  18. I guess no more cycling coverage on german TV. Ever.
  19. I do not have that I do not have that problem, I do not have any friends.
  20. If it motivates you to train at higher intensity and to rest adequately then it works.
  21. The western side of Centurion is not safe anymore, especially early in the morning. These okes are increasingly plakking from Attridgeville to Diepsloot to Lanseria to Lion Park. As @Sharkie2 said, stick to a bike park. Better safe than sorry. Otherwise jump in the car and drive to Breedts, but that takes recources such as time and money. Good training then though, wish I could afford to go there every day.
  22. Thanks for the update Jagwil. People please stay away from the Mooiplaas, Vlakplaas, Gerardsville, Erasmia, Diepsloot area. This includes the rubbish dump, chicken farm and Mnandi areas. It is not safe to cycle there anymore, not even in large groups.
  23. This is the **** we have to put up with in our civilized neighbourhood! FFS! http://www.beeld.com/Suid-Afrika/Nuus/Samaritaan-vermoor-20120131 Yes I am having a bad day.
  24. Is this Mooiplaas close to Erasmia? I have been chased around there before. Too close to Attridgeville. Erasmia police was not interested in my story. Sad to hear. Hope for speedy recovery. I do not go out on the bike anymore.
  25. Camelbak makes a vest with a hidden bladder in the back. Just the bite valve protrudes from the shoulder area. The only con is that it is not so easily refillable once empty, but very fashionable otherwise.
