  1. 70 will also do fanks.
  2. I am looking for a 40km entry please, if you can't make it next weekend. Please send pm. Thx.
  3. This would be interesting to measure. I have a hill that I repeat 10 times in exactly the same gear, at exactly the same cadence (70 bpm music beat). Theoretically I should be using the same power output more or less. It takes exactly 15 minutes to complete the hill. When I start the temp is about 5deg and when I finish it is about 18deg. My heart rate goes as follows Run# Start End 1 99 134 2 124 138 3 126 141 4 128 146 5 133 148 6 132 151 7 130 152 8 131 154 9 132 155 10 131 154 It would be interesting to see the diff in calculated power between run 1 and 10.
  4. Oakley factory shop in PE closed down, the one on the way to Summerstrand. There was another Oakley shop at the "value centre" mall thingie on the western side of PE, not sure of the name of the centre, but there is a Hifi Corp, Increduble Connection, Sportymans Warehouse etc in the same block.
  5. I was one of the last to do it in 1993. Also did varsity first in the hope of missing it all. In hindsight glad I went, did me a world of good.
  6. Just some feedback on the Delonghi ECAM 23.450. 2 1/2 weeks and 170 cups later, just opened the 5th 250g beans pack. It's the Woolies Organic Espresso and definitely better than the HOC flavours I had in the cupboard. Very happy with the purchase, machine hasn't skipped a beat.
  7. You have to get the same fit on the spinning bike as on the mtb. This might mean that you have to lower the spinning bike handlebar quite a bit. There is a huge difference when you stand upright (no 2 on the handlebar) and can put your full weight nicely balanced on the pedals, and when you have to use your lower back, butt and legs to pedal. On the mtb you use a lot more upper body strength to exert pressure on the pedals; best exercise in the gym to get stronger is the deadlift. And you really have to turn up the resistance on the spinning bike. You should be in agony for 45 minutes, not being able to go faster than 70rpm, with a look on your face like when the pros finish a TT, iow sweat should be pouring of you with the odd spit and snot dangling off your chin, HR close to max. It must definitely not be pretty. A good test is to sit upright with arms crossed over your chest. If you can pedal more than 20rpm (or do not need to pull with the opposite leg to keep you straight in the saddle) you are probably not using enough resistance. Another good rule of thumb is to turn the red knob all the way until it will not turn anymore, then about 1/4 turn back, maybe 1/2 a turn, maximum. You should not be able to start pedalling from standstill; you have to release a little bit to get the flywheel going, then turn it back up again.
  8. Yes. The heart is pre-programmed to only beat until you die.
  9. After a lot of reasoning and generally driving the wife crazy with all the coffee talk, we got the DeLonghi ECAM 23.450 yesterday. It was a toss-up between this unit and the Nespresso one that Wayne has. Very similar look and functionality, super easy to use and maintain, and I like the idea of using freshly ground beans. Economy is good as well. At around R50 for 35-40 cups it makes more sense in the long run.
  10. Maybe roughly 100 okes changed to 29ers?
  11. No, gym does not help. Just look at Arnie now. Our hearts come with a pre-programmed total number of beats. Almost like an office copier. And our blood is like toner. Once it is used up... No need to get tired and rush to the limit I say.
  12. If you eat low carb, get Ketostix from your pharmacy to test your urine for ketones. If you have a little bit too much carbs the diet does not work and you will feel hungry and tired most of the time, which is not a nice feeling. You need to get (and keep) to the stage where your hunger (and cravings) stops and you feel great no matter what time of day.
  13. No, not as far as I can remember. You get a number board at registration. Yes you can ride most of it in granny gear, just very rocky and uneven in places. Take a camelbak as backup as I have never seen as many bottles lost as in this race. Very bumpy on the downs..
  14. Thinking of getting a DeLonghi ECAM 23.450 (around R6500)... anyone heard any good/bad?
  15. No offence but you are the OP?...What did you expect?
  16. Your blood pressure varies during the day. The reference should be when you are healthy, calm and rested. I had one of those VO2Max tests done end of last year. They measure your blood pressure before, during and after. It is scary how high it becomes as you are reaching LT.
  17. Very similar to Silverback Storm, which you can get for < 23K if you ask nicely? Pity no XL. I am looking for something like this but not at 30K.

    Silverback Range

Surely that's not so bad? Function over form I say...

Anyone have a Vida 1 or 2? Looks to be good value for money.
  24. If you want a lot of medals do one of those 24h spinning marathon thingies. You get a medal every hour. I kid you not.
