  1. Blondie's Rapture. Sniff something to appreciate the lyrics: .... And you get in your car and you drive real far And you drive all night and then you see a light And it comes right down and lands on the ground And out comes a man from Mars And you try to run but he's got a gun And he shoots you dead and he eats your head And then you're in the man from Mars You go out at night, eatin' cars You eat Cadillacs, Lincolns too Mercuries and Subarus And you don't stop, you keep on eatin' cars Then, when there's no more cars You go out at night and eat up bars where the people meet ...
  2. There, fixed it for ya.
  3. Just Google 'Helmut' and you will find some decent examples with images.
  4. Volvo S80. Yeah, I know... but I love the seats and sound system.
  5. Just do it. I recently acquired a civilized cheapy V8 but I still jizz a drop or 2 every morning when I press that start button.
  6. How are you measuring your body temperature?
  7. I wonder if there is not some legal issue regarding pedal platform to blame here?
  8. It is more likely at least 500 of the 600 teams paying for entry. For the priviledged few there are some nice freebies.
  9. Because of the TV rights and publicity, most if not all sponsors pay a hefty sum to be associated. If you supply some or other goods or service you have to go the whole nine yards and a bit. But nothing wrong with that. If you want your brand displayed you have to pay. A very clever model. But you have to careful as well. I remember a few years ago how one of the sponsors threatened to pull out on the Wednesday (and that would have been a show-stopper) because at dinner they were not treated with the same respect as some of the other sponsors.
  10. I think it takes a bit longer but they can accommodate quite a few bikes at once.
  11. My guess is that most of those are non finishers from yesterday or non-starters this morning. If you can make it to day 3 (not counting the TT) chances are you will finish barring a mechanical or other unfortunate incident.
  12. If I hear Owen Hannie comment one more time regarding David George's lack of mtb skills I am ging to fly down on Velvet Sky and kick him in the nuts. I am no fan of George but he has been doing this for some years now and has better skills than 99,9% out there.
  13. Anyone else using Chia seeds on a daily basis? Mix them up with some scrambled egg and bits o' bacon and feel those chest hairs grow*. If you have a lot of chest hair already it will grow on your shoulders and back. *Not recommended for the ladies.
  14. Tin of bristling sardines
  15. Any of Joe Friel's cycling training bibles will provide the answer.
  16. I normally go down via Hendrik Verwoerd, around back of Mall@Reds, South to the water tower in Fouriesburg, then a right turn onto Lenchen, downhill until the dead end, then turn around and back up all the way past the water tower until you hit Rooihuiskraal road. There I turn right and continue up to Panorama traffic light. Right turn into Panorama, down past the Spar, on to the traffic circle.Turn right at the traffic circle into Brakfontein and continue through Thatchfields past the golf course and up the hill. Nice short hill, sometimes I repeat it a few times. Then back to Panorama, back to Rooihuiskraal road, turn right and head down up to Samrand Ave. There turn left and go up to Rietspruit road (first traffic light before the N1). Turn right and head up to Blue Valley. I normally go down the right of Blue Valley up to the river but never past as this can be risky. Turn around and back up to Blue Valley, maybe repeat the hill once or twice. Then past Blue Valley on to Lever Road. Up to here you normally have about 13-15km on the clock depending on hill repeats. Sometimes I go on with Lever all the way to where it becomes Harry Galaun past Olifantsfontein up to Allandale, and then retrace my steps. Most of this route has ample dirt area if you look around, and it is fairly safe as there are always cars around. It is not as fast going as Purnjap's route but good exercise (for me at least). And it is not too boring.
  17. @lapa, where in Centurion do you stay? I can recommend some ideas if you are in the Wierdapark / Eldoraigne / Rooihuiskraal side.
  18. It really depends on the individual and hordes of other factors. Best is to get hold of one of Joe Friel's training books. Lots of good stuff in there.
  19. @Dangle, you remember those Spez shoe strap clips you helped me with? The Melrose Arch shop wanted 3 times as much for just one (and you supplied both, fitted). BTW they are still working nicely.
  20. There is quite a story behind that pick. Although these gentlemen rode for the same team, the one in front was the upcoming Belgian cyclocross throne contender and the other the outgoing Dutch. I think it was agreed beforehand that they would finish the other way around, hence the gesture.
  21. Ja, you can see he was clearly irritated and just gooied a PK on the spot, he did not even use stick, should have.
  22. Castle Light to the rescue. Have as many as you like after a ride. Heck, even during. OK, it is not real beer but then again this is the matrix.
  23. From Tim Noakes column: "We are currently researching a group of serious and some elite athletes who have adopted the Banting diet and who have found that their performances have improved substantially with weight loss and reduction of their carbohydrate intakes both before and during racing. We need to understand why this is possible." At least some good will come of this; the man is not going to rest until he gets his answer. I cannot think of anybody more perfect for the job.
  24. I guess Tim Noakes knew all about this from way back when. But the thing is that you get taught that eating fat is a bad thing. Just glad that he eventually tried it himself to find the truth. But you have to know what you are doing. If you do not understand the mechanism it is difficult to get it right.
