  1. If she is going to be doing road races with it, I'd definitely go for a hardtail. Assuming your wife isn't a giant, 26er would probably be the best fit for her and also represent the best value for money. In that price range you should get Shimano ST (perhaps with some SLX) components.
  2. Thanks lads! Although I didn't get the chance to fully check out the bike post race, I dread to think what kind of potential damage the heavy impact could have done, even though I don't think there were any direct hits on the frame (apart from the 45 fynbushes my bike and I took out). Thanks again for the advice!
  3. True! The medics and a photographer literally pulled me back up the hill by my shoes (as I was upside down). Very grateful indeed!
  4. Yeah thats always an option hey... A nice Cannondale SS! ha. I'm bruised and grazed from head to toe with some quality whiplash but thankfully no serious injuries. Definitely a lucky boy.
  5. Yip that was me... pity you didn't have a GoPro
  6. Thanks Tractor, yeah I'll do that.
  7. Hey Guys, So to cut a long story short (and as discussed in the Argus 2014 thread), I had a big accident at the Argus, hitting a pavement on the Chapmans Peak decent at 50km/h then taking a tour down the hill side. So thankfully my bike is insured and I've already informed my insurance firm of the impending claim. So the front wheel is badly damaged and potentially the gears and hood/shifters. However the question is, surely such an impact could have done some serious damage to my carbon frame and particularly the forks but how would one know the extent of such damage if this is the case? I don't have the bike back yet, so haven't fully inspected it, but I've heard that even if you don't see cracks on the surface of the frame, there may still be damage? Thanks Wez-O

Thanks guys, it was a crazy experience but glad to have some witnesses as I'm pretty sure my friends & work colleagues thought I was exaggerating. Surely one of you had a Go-Pro? Seriously though, although I'm bruised & grazed everywhere and have some serious whiplash, I think I got off lightly as it could have been a whole lot worse.

Johnny Lee would have been so proud of me!
  10. The organisers should have marshals to warn riders as well as barriers on the sharp 90 degree right hand turn on the Chapmans Peak decent (just after the toll booths). Apparently there were later in the day, but nothing at 9:00am. I for one had a major crash there and went over the wall and down Champmans cliff face. While recovered my bike, another 3 riders crashed in 2 separate accidents on the corner.

Hectic, no that one wasn't me. My crash was at around 9:00ish. I was hanging onto the lead B group and came around the outside of a rider only to find it was that sharp right hand turn (and very kindly there was no warning signs at that time of the morning for us non locals), the rest is history... I just checked on my Garmin, I hit the wall at 50km/h and believe me, I'm feeling it in every joint today.

That insane wind aside, the race was going perfectly to plan as I was with the lead group until I crashed at speed on the Champmans Peak decent, hit the pavement, the wall then went over the edge through what felt like 20 bushes (although it was probably only 2 or 3). I ended up up 10 meters down the 'cliff' and after paramedics and spectators very kindly pulled me up (by my feet initially). Thanks to all of them and the very sweet middle aged lady who very concerned. Thereafter I managed to fix the resultant puncture and limp to the finish line with only a handful of working gears, a vibrating buckled wheel and blood and Chapmans Peak greenery decorating my kit and legs. Otherwise all good

Good luck all, let the wind be at your back (wishful thinking perhaps), keep the rubber on the tar and most importantly enjoy!
  14. This is a good start for sure.
  15. It's as though this clip was created by an overweight old man who hasn't performed any kind of sport in a long time... O look, there's Jeremy Clarkson stuffing his face with a pie!
  16. Still a little hacked off that MTN-Quebeka didn't crack the nod, but yes, looking forward to this one.

    Sounds good to me!
  18. So thought I'd resurrect this thread and say that those 38mm clinchers really do look a good bet. Has anyone ridden with them since this topic was last visited in November?
  19. My KCNC scandium seat post stripped the single bolt and upon talking it in to two different LBS, both told me that this is a 'common' issue with this particular product. For the price you pay, that's quite unacceptable. You won't catch me spending another cent on any KCNC product. Rant over
  20. Could be an exciting season after last seasons snore fest.
  21. I've heard good things about this race but never done it myself due to it overlapping the Panorama weekend. The fact that it's full road closure is a massive plus!
  22. Thats what I like to hear, please let us know of the finer details and I'll be there
  23. Nice tour this one.
  24. Okay not a training ride, but are the Hubbers going to do a Saturday pre-race ride from Greenpoint to Suikerbossie again?

Got to agree that it's hardly the ideal venue. Pity they can't use the CTICC.
