  1. DAMN... On the upside though, with two bricks at my disposal, best those hijackers be careful!

So you mean to say that carbon frames and wheels are made for bunny hopping and cobblestones... Sounds good to me

My thoughts exactly... Most the GC riders won't be looking forward to this stage, but particularly someone like Rodriguez, (who weighs about 15kg).

Brilliant, well done! you guys sure did upset some of the big teams! haha
  5. 27 is more than enough

Didn't Frank Schleck crash and end his tour on the cobblestones in 2010? I'd expect a few splits in the peloton at least.

Hey Spinnekop, sorry was that you?! Apologies & thanks bud You were in the lead peloton until the finish were you not?
  8. Enjoy, its an amazing race!

It will be very interesting to see how some of the lightweight GC riders deal with the cobblestones in this year Tour.

cyclenation.co.za and the Emperors fb page also have some pictures.
  11. The weight of the rider and the type of tyre all effect its life span, but you can get 4000-6000km on a set of good tyres. For a weekend warrior, you can't go wrong with Conti Gatorskins.
  12. The protein shake / recovery drink within 30 minutes of the end of the ride is important for sure.

By the way, where do we find the criterium results?
  15. Stage one and three are far tougher than the Argus/94.7. But if you are conservative in the early stages and have the right gearing, I'm sure you will be fine.

Really enjoyed the criterium racing but have to admit that the road surfaces on the track were very dangerous... Had to bunny hop speed humps at 60km/h and ride through sections with water and sand on the track, so that wasn't ideal. The race definitely deserved more spectators though as it was a good show and great chance to rub shoulders with some of the countries finest cyclists.

I saw that crash SurferChild, it was a bad one with at least 5 riders looking to go down. Sorry to hear about the bike but glad you didn't break anything. Wishing you a speedy recovery! I have to agree with this post. In the final 30 km's the VA peloton was chasing a breakaway at 40km/h speeds while having to duck and dive between the short distance riders (who to their credit were innocent bi-standers). Really the groups shouldn't be mixing though as it is really dangerous to everyone concerned. Otherwise a superbly organised race!
  18. Noooo, those will be the Ksyrium SL's or something like that which are race wheels and super light. Just the normal Ksyrium's with no suffix appreciations is what you are looking for
  19. Damn, I warm up at 750w! No seriously sounds good to me, Thanks!
  20. I think for that price range you will get far better value for money looking at a 26er rather than the 650b (27.5er). Maybe swing by your local bike shop and ask them to make you a good deal on a 26er and due to them not being the current craze, you will probably get a good deal.
  21. I'm actually looking for a Mavic Ksyrium front wheel after clouting my old one Great value for money wheels indeed, but nothing wrong with the cheaper Aksiums.

Awesome! I'm racing with the Sub Vets... Looking forward to the hurt locker that will undoubtedly be unleashed by the group.
  23. True, perhaps don't allow your wife to park your car post ride in the garage if you go the roofrack route.

I hope everyone in Joburg is coming to watch the criterium racing at Blue HIlls Midrand tomorrow. Will be awesome racing at all levels.
  25. What Cippo said... Dropping weight on wheels is the way to go. On a bike, rolling weight is a far bigger factor than general bike/rider weight.
