  1. You will see that the established brands like Cannondale, Giant and Scott fight shy of superlight rims like Crests. Because they KNOW that bigger (I did not say fat) guys and gals will purchase their bikes. And they do not want law suits. They will spec Arch. The smaller brands will through in these wheels to boost sales and hope that the riders finesse them because they know of their limitations.
  2. I bought mine locally. It worked out cheaper
  3. I have tried the killerbees at 2 seperate occasions. Do not expect a tough tire. Prepare for latex spray on your frame and on your legs.
  4. Interesting comment: changing the rims to Crests. So why on earth did Crackondale not spec the bike with these from the start? They cost the same. Maybe they feel that the Crests are just not strong enough?
  5. Makes me think of the neighbour's son when we were kids. He wanted his fathers Combi to have a louder exhaust system. So he took a drill and drilled the silencer full of holes. His father was not happy to say the least.
  6. Think of supplements in this way. If it is not on the WADA list, chances are rather remote that it will make you faster/stronger/last longer.
  7. Ahhh. How to win friends and influence people.
  8. You can do the Epic via the ordinary guy route. Like I did. Year 1 got a bike and ate the food I got. And drank 1/2 coke and water and Energade and powerade. No bike services. The second year I made a few drive train upgrades. And did it again with the same recipe. The third time I got clever and bought all kinds of expensive dust(Epic pro) that tastes like vomit. After the second day I was back to the same recipe as year 1. Giving the expensive dust to people who think normal food is abnormal. My supplements were Berocca cal and Slow mag. No. I did not podium. We had the odd breakages. I wanted to be clever with lightweight tires... Survived without any massage/ maintenance/sustenance plan. We are doing the Cape pioneer trek in October. Vleis rys en aartappels. Or you can swallow all the pills and potions on the market and have the most expensive urine in the southern hemisphere. Just be sure that the stuff you intend to ingest does not give you stomach cramps or jippo guts. 50% TIS 30% hardegat and do not do stupid things. Like stupid tires. 10% luck The others make up the last 10%. Have fun.
  9. Is this a picture of Norman 29er en his favorite 29mm?
  10. I saw a few guys riding their road bikes with their mtb shoes. And mtb pedals. Not a bad idea. When we got to the fire, there were about 30 guys waiting for the fire to die.
  11. You the guy walking in his socks with his white Sidi's in his hand? Just pulling your legs. We did it on 26" hardtails. Lots of gears.
  12. It would be nice to see an event like this with more entries. Were there more than 900? For all of those who made this event a success. Thanks. Sheez. I did not know you roadies liked walking so much. Not only Boulders, but also some of the flattish climbs on the 3rd stage.
  13. Ahhh. A trolling rookie. Your maths homework for tomorrow done?
  14. One of those Armstrong armbands on his wrist?
  15. I have Specialized clamps with a Profile Design plastic cage. Works for me.
  16. Don't fix something that ain't broke. Is there play on the back wheel?
  17. Anything is possible. I read somewhere that a guy did the Epic on 6 hours a week training. But he kakked. Ended up close to last. But he survived. Then there are guys who entered the Epic the week before the race with no spesific training. And did well. BUT they were training all year long. Advice? Difficult. Be as light as possible. Drop every kilo you can. Say for instance you weigh 85kg and your bike is 15kg kitted up. That gives you 100kg. If you can loose 7kg's (On the bike and on your butt) you will have a 7% easier ride. Meaning you can do the same with a heart rate of 139 instead of 149. Lots of okes will tell you to go for quality over quantity. The problem is this only helps if you already have a base. And you can only get a base by doing many saddle hours. Catch 22. When you are able to train, do not be sacred of tarred roads. Tackle the looooong climbs. I have looked at the profiles. We are going to climb. We all like to ride mtb in the bush. Unfortunately this gives us a false sence of fitness. In the weeks you are able to train, train to train again the following day. No use to kill yourself on the one day, just to be buggered the next 3. Training when you are dog tired is useless. You seem to have a problem. But you will survive. Whether you think you can or can't, you are right. See you there
  18. Also depending on how many miles you have got on your legs(in years).
  19. It looks like a pinned rim. It does not look like a crack. (Look for the same "crack" on the other wheel at the exact same place opposite to the valve)
  20. R20? Really. Get real. Less than 2 litres of petrol. Now tell me if you drive @100km/h to get 6.6l/100km in stead of 8.3l/100km @ 130km/h.
