What is your height and weight. I ask this because I had an Anthem, off the shelf. I am 6'5" and let me tell you riding with my arse way higher than my hands just becomes a pain in the shoulders after 5 hours. And at 90 kg,s, 3" of travel on the rear wheel is not nearly good enough not to speak of the 100mm of fork travel. My point is that what you ride is very specific to you. Do not buy a bicycle that Burry looks good on hoping you will look just as good. Shop around, look at all your options carefully and try all the bikes before you buy. That's my advice.

I know exactly how you feel. My Anthem spent a lot of time on a workshop stand. I had a DT Swiss hub. Absolute rubbish. Always full of sand and water, the seals are crap, crap seals and the bearings get hammered. Going with a custom build bike now and the hub of choice is a Hope Pro 2 simply because the hub is easily serviced at home and has a better seal system than the DT Swiss as well as a better pawl system. easy to service, clean and lube. Mavic UST rim to boot.

It's called a Rivnut. I can assure you that your seat post will eventually break if you drill holes in it. You will not get enough threads into a seat post to hold a water bottle on a MTB. Have you ever tried getting the bottle out from the lower cage on an Anthem whilst on the move? Not at all easy. If you are not going to win the race get a camelbak.

Need to choose some wheels, been following a few threads. 1. Must be open bearings not cartridge. 2. Must have 20 mm thru axle. 3. Must be tubeless. 4. Rims need to be aluminium. 5. Must be strong.

I had a Fox 100mm RL on my Anthem and to be honest it was not strong enough. I broke the rebound springs twice. A Rock Shox Revelation 120mm with at least a 15mm axle has been recomended. By 15/20 mm are you refering to the thru axle on the front wheel?

Hold on... just about all the LBS guys recomend a large, you said the M felt too small. You got a large...........what was the question again?

I ride a bit in the Linksfield area. I enter next to the Edenvale hospital (east of the enterance gate where the taxi,s park, quite safe) there are a good few trails in the area. Then I exit at the south west corner next to the nursery, cross the road and ride on the sidewalk/path next to the golf course all the way to King Davids school and then up Linksfield drive, 1,2km up to the top 100metres of asscent, do this a few times. Back down club street over the highway at Linksfield, immediately left up the bank and follow the track to the river, cross the river and all the way up to the top of the hill to Greenstone shopping centre. Thats my ride once a week in that area.

And the lawyers make more money, and the people remain bitter with each other!
