  1. Good to hear, and sound advice, thanks guys. As for local is lekker, none of this stuff is local anyway, lekker is the extra cash in my pocket.
  2. I can. After spending 1K on a Fizzik Gobi which broke after 3 months. Yes broke, seat pan snapped in half? What's that? Oh....I weigh 90 kg's.
  3. Prices to make your eyes water. Sooooo cheap. Ordering enough stuff to get free shipping/post. What's the catch, anyone get shafted by them?
  4. I know exactly how you feel. My Anthem spent a lot of time on a workshop stand. I had a DT Swiss hub. Absolute rubbish. Always full of sand and water, the seals are crap, crap seals and the bearings get hammered. Going with a custom build bike now and the hub of choice is a Hope Pro 2 simply because the hub is easily serviced at home and has a better seal system than the DT Swiss as well as a better pawl system. easy to service, clean and lube. Mavic UST rim to boot.
  5. It's called a Rivnut. I can assure you that your seat post will eventually break if you drill holes in it. You will not get enough threads into a seat post to hold a water bottle on a MTB. Have you ever tried getting the bottle out from the lower cage on an Anthem whilst on the move? Not at all easy. If you are not going to win the race get a camelbak.
  6. Question. Will the Sram gripshifters work with Shimano xt FD and RD?
  7. Need to choose some wheels, been following a few threads. 1. Must be open bearings not cartridge. 2. Must have 20 mm thru axle. 3. Must be tubeless. 4. Rims need to be aluminium. 5. Must be strong.
  8. Disa Park is one of the most notorious pieces of architecture in the Vredehoek area of Cape Town, South Africa. Built by the construction company Murray and Roberts in the 1960s, these three 17 story, cylindrical towers, called Blinkwater, Platteklip and Silverstroom, are nestled on the slopes of Table Mountain, and are almost universally proclaimed to be a blemish on the face of the majestic mountain. The three towers are popularly known to Capetonians as "The Pepper Pots" or "Tampon Towers". Murray and Roberts found a loop hole in the building restrictions on the mountainside, and built the base below the allowable development line, then built upward, above the line. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/1/1f/P1060208a_Vredehoek_and_the_Suburbs.jpg/360px-P1060208a_Vredehoek_and_the_Suburbs.jpg http://bits.wikimedia.org/skins-1.5/common/images/magnify-clip.pngWith the suburbs of Oranjezicht and Vredehoek in the foreground, the unrestricted view enjoyed by residents of Disa Park can be appreciated The residents tend to disagree with the demolitionists, their homes have access to dozens of trails and hikes on their doorstep as well as a tennis court, squash courts, braai area and a swimming pool. The towers also provide an excellent vantage point for scenic views over the region.
  9. Decided on one of these. http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r156/war63423/40924.jpg Rock Shox Revelation Team Dual Air with a 20mm axle. Now for some wheels.
  10. After 4 months of searching for a Giant Trance XL frame one finaly turned up with an RP23 Fox shock to boot. <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><img src="http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r156/war63423/TranceBuild004.jpg" height="106" width="159" border="0" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Going to paint the frame white.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1st order of business is a front fork. I had a Fox 100mm RL on my Anthem and to be honest it was not strong enough. I broke the rebound springs twice. A Rock Shox Revelation 120mm with at least a 15mm axle has been recomended. Any thoughts from those in the know?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Continuous cable mod.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><img src="http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r156/war63423/TranceBuild015.jpg" height="106" width="159" border="0" /></DIV>
  11. If you have a polar you can get the 12 or 16 week programme from Polar direct by email.
  12. By 15/20 mm are you refering to the thru axle on the front wheel?
  13. Hold on... just about all the LBS guys recomend a large, you said the M felt too small. You got a large...........what was the question again?
  14. I ride a bit in the Linksfield area. I enter next to the Edenvale hospital (east of the enterance gate where the taxi,s park, quite safe) there are a good few trails in the area. Then I exit at the south west corner next to the nursery, cross the road and ride on the sidewalk/path next to the golf course all the way to King Davids school and then up Linksfield drive, 1,2km up to the top 100metres of asscent, do this a few times. Back down club street over the highway at Linksfield, immediately left up the bank and follow the track to the river, cross the river and all the way up to the top of the hill to Greenstone shopping centre. Thats my ride once a week in that area.
  15. And the lawyers make more money, and the people remain bitter with each other!
  16. Chain and cluster get removed and washed in parafin, bike gets washed with car soap, hot water and a sponge/brush, spray off with hose! I lube the chain regularly, squirt for dry, motorex for wet. Wheels are DT Swiss 370 hubs.
  17. Thanks for the replies so far. Chains I replace with a mid range shimano brand, one just below xt I think, often, this has saved the cassette and front rings. I use the 13" ruler method and get about a 1000km's out of a chain. Try and avoid mud like the plague and remove the chain to wash it once a week. Wheel bearings and free hub take the most beating, not sure why. I remove and clean once a month. Fork I now service myself after a JB course. BB did last the full 8000 km's.
  18. Perhaps you could be so kind as to give a constructive awnser to a constructive question instead of making assumptions about the way I treat my equipment. Either that or stay in the general slagging threads to keep your post counts in the forum whore totals. Thanks for your consideration.
  19. 2008 Giant Anthem by the way, all XT stuff. The only components that do not give sh*te are the Giant bit's.
  20. Over the last 14 months I have spent a shed load of cash, but more importantly time keeping my bike on the road. 8000 km's and I have worn out 2 sets of wheel bearings in each wheel, rear shock service (blown seals), front fork service x 3, 2 rear gear cables, 1 freehub, large front ring (R1200.00) 1 rear cassette, 3 head set bearings, 1 BB and countless chains, tyres and brake pads. I presume I'm hard on the components, the bike shop guys just shake their heads at me while the owner rubs her hands in delight. Does the indestructable bike exist? I'm almost reluctant to go out riding as the frequency of maintainance needed increases as the bike ages!Plentipotential2009-12-02 06:44:16
  21. What is'nt expensive in this cycling game. It's basicaly a rip off industry! R600.00 for a bicycle tyre, R1200.00 for a tyre for my bakkie? FFS Yeah I know, all the R & D bullsh*t, what? they just stick rubber together to make car tyres and hope like hell they work, I think not. The Maxxis tyres have a reputation for delaminating, Pro Bike will replace them. Why should you have to ask them to replace a tyre? These tyres should have been taken off the market long ago, instead Pro Bike replace the defective tyre and you hope like hell your tyre does not fall apart on day 2 of a R 7000.00 entry fee stage race!
