  1. The Red Ivory memory box I made for my wife lives inside out of direct sun so that may be a factor and was a slow process. The cheese board made from Maple and Purple Heart gets washed and took a beating. However the off cuts in the workshop faded slowly. There may be a process to seal the colour in but I have looked and it is common consensus from wood workers around the world that the colour fades. A light sanding revives the colour if that helps. Edit. I forgot to add, the inside of that Red Ivory box has faded very little so I suspect its just a light thing.
  2. My experience with Purple Heart is that is fades to a dull brown over time as does Red Ivory.
  3. That plane should clean up easily enough. Consider using Hammerite smooth black paint as it does not need an undercoat and sorts out any rust left behind. Just on the painted metal. I would consider fixing that handle.
  4. The top.
  5. You want Pitchas. Heritage tool chest No. 3 Curly Maple, Birds Eye Maple and Maple. Finished with Danish Oil.
  6. A South African braai is made with newspaper and wood. For those who use webers or blits/charcoal I should tell you to tear up your man card right now, however I suspect that you would get paper cuts on those little fingers!
  7. In Jo'Burg. Power Tool Plus 011 917 eight 2 five five. Groz R 837.00 for a 300 mm Engineers Square stainless steel, good quality. The Groz work shop quality one is about 1/2 that price. Ask for Bianca, tell her Warren sent you.

  11. African Blackwood - Dalbergia melanoxylon. Also known in South Africa as Zebrawood, not sure why this name is used though, perhaps someone can enlighten me. National Parks label trees and this is the name they use. Nice tree for the urban garden and available from the nursery next to the golf course in Kruger Park. Very slow growing, one of the heaviest woods worldwide, heavier than leadwood, and certainly one of the most expensive. Use it to make something special.
  12. Hey! That's my pen! Use it every day.
  13. Router. I would look at a Triton, 2nd hand with a table. Bits from hardware Centre. Orbital sander. Bosch, blue, loads of options. Pick one and price check. Jigsaw has me stumped as I have an Elu that's 30 years old and still one of the best I've used.

  17. Followed this thread for a while. Interesting. I guess coffee is a very personal love affair for each individual. For me the best I have tasted to date is Illy out Of an Isomac I bought 20 years ago, R 1000.00. Lot of money back then. After a while the hassle of making one cup drove me to a Moka pot I got at Adams for 70 bucks, in fact one at home one at the office. Camping gaz does the heating. Real easy.
  18. Got it sorted. Hope it's good.
