  1. 16 Dec - Somerson 21km (Going to miss it...) 19 Dec - Correctional Services Night Race 10km 23 Dec - Moordkuil 15km 30 Dec - Oujaarsdraffie 10km I see the Mosselbay Mall 10km is on the same day as Moordkuil - that is just stupid. The Knysna night race is also the same day as Somerson..
  2. Well this is going to be interesting, but my money is on Ryan. http://www.theathlete.co.za/2017/11/27/ryan-sandes-to-take-on-comrades-champion-in-the-ultra-trail-cape-town/ Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  3. I think that will be my plan as well. I want to do the reverse route. Om Die Dam is never easy
  4. The one set of antibiotics was for tonsilitis... I am considering removing them.
  5. I was thinking the same thing while posting my dates... Last year I did both and my legs felt tired at OMTOM... I will think about it... These race organizers seriously need to talk to each other!!!
  6. My 2018 Marathon and Ultra Race Plans (entered most of the 42kms today) January 21 - Springs Garbie 32km February 3 - Sasol Secunda 42km - OMTOM / Comrades Qualifier 25 - Deloittes Pretoria 42km - because I like suffering.... March (The ultra month) 17 - Om die Dam 31 - OMTOM April 21 - Loskop Not sure when the RAC 60km will be...
  7. If I look at my training log on Strava for previous years: Dec 2016: I averaged about 30km per week in December, were suppose to do Johnsons 42 as a qualifier end of January and I ended up doing the 21km. Longest run was not more than 15km per week in Dec. Dec 2015: I averaged around 45 to 50km per week. I qualified at Johnsons Crane with a time of 4:15. Longest runs were around 15km. Dec 2014: I averaged 50 to 60km per week and missed Johnsons Crane sub 4 with 1 minute... Did an LSD of 20km each week in Dec. Moral of the story, if I look at my own training, if you are planning to do an early qualifier in January you need at least one long run per week over December. I would recommend following a training program.
  8. So I "accidentally" bought myself a Xmas gift. I figured I want to give Hoka One One a try and it is on special.
  9. My training is also commencing tomorrow, just finished my 4th set of antibiotics for the year. I hope for a better 2018 training year. Looking forward going on holiday in 12 days time....This has been a hectic year, work-wise, training wise and emotionally. I am steadily going to build up the kilometers over December with my longest run being a 21km. I am doing 3 races in December down in Mosselbay: Moordkuil 15km, the Correctional Services 10km night race and then my usual hangover race, the Oujaarsdraffie 10km.
  10. You guys made me laugh! Runners are just a special breed of human beings

  12. Congratulations to everyone that finished Tough One! Especially if you received both medals. Had my worst race by far. Started off slowly as I knew I was unprepared for what is coming. Everything went well up to 21km. Then the stomach cramps started and I had to pull off a couple of times. Thank goodness RAC had porta-potties on the route. I limped home in my worst time ever of 3:44. After the race, I started throwing up and it continued for 24 hours. I went to the doctor and I have food poisoning. That explained my k@k race... I am glad I survived as I felt like giving up 10 000 times in my head. Thank you for the Nola Park parking tip! Congrats to RAC for a well-organized race, my only gripe is that marshalls stopped the runners twice for cars to pass, and it wasn't a handful of runners. Will be resting for a couple of days and then December base training begins!
  13. Thank you for the tip!! Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  14. See you at Tough One. I will be the one using the F word like commas... Hope it is going to be cooler than 94.7 Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  15. I like running with Rudy Project, you can use them early in the mornings as well. I cycle with Oakleys. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  16. What an achievement for Gerda and Nolene Conrad (2:35) yesterday. It seems the pressure is on Caroline for next year.
  17. Well done Pieter, welcome to the club. May this be the first of many! Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  18. Yes, only 13.6% gradient at its steepest part...
  19. Good luck! My first ever 10km was Tom Jenkins... another rookie mistake.
  20. I learned this the hard way in my early days of running. Nobody warned me about chafing. I will never forget the amount of pain I felt getting into the shower after my first marathon. Now vaseline is the first thing I put next to my running gear the night before a race. Vaseline works better than baby bum cream. Baby bum cream works miracles after a race if you have chafed. EDIT: I think an ultra runner's handbook for noobs would be awesome. Not about training, but more about general tips. Vaseline would be on the list, and to take your own toilet paper to a portable loo....
  21. For me, it is two Savanah Lights...
  22. Resting for Sunday, will also do two runs in the week before Tough One... And then getting drunk after Tough One [emoji485] Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  23. So not looking forward to Tough One, going to be a long day for me.
  24. I had a hectic week work wise and my running suffered a bit this week, I guess it is good to "taper" for 94.7. Well done Andrew on an excellent time trial! I suffered to run under 5 min a km last night for just 3kms... My question to the speed freaks / "Kenyan-like" runners on this thread: How do you gradually increase your speed? Is it just a case of doing more speed work? Seeing that we are approaching the "off" season soon, I want to concentrate on speed. What does your typical training plan look like for the second half of November and the whole of December?
