  1. Unfortunately not, taking it easy with the running at the moment. Going to be a long day in the saddle for me tomorrow. I need to be cycling for at least 4 hours tomorrow. I am doing a 100km ride next weekend. Good luck to all our CT marathoners! Enjoy the beautiful Cape, take it easy tomorrow, don't spent too much money at the expo and run your hearts out on Sunday!! We want some race reports on Monday.
  2. Gerald Fox memorial 21/10 is on Sunday at Johannesburg Zoo. Not sure if you can enter on the day as it is part of the Vitality Series. http://www.runnersworld.co.za/events/gerald-fox-memorial-half-marathon-10km/ Saturday is Andrew Greyling 21/10 at Brooklyn Mall in Pretoria which will probably be less congested than the Gerald Fox memorial race.
  3. It is normally the first Saturday in February. So I guess the 3rd of Feb 2018. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  4. It is for me very difficult. This time of year (after Comrades) I cycle over weekends and run during the week. As I don't really have any running races planned for the rest of the year (except the Tough One suffer festival) my main focus is cycling. You can be running fit but it does not mean you can sit on a bike for 100kms...
  5. Yes, when you finish the Tough One there is a tent where you give them your 94.7 time and then you get another medal. So you get two medals at Tough one. They also send out results with the combined time.... It is actually very interesting how close your 94.7 time can be to your Tough one time. A friend of mine rode a 3:01 last year and ran a 2:59 tough one...
  6. If you want to just qualify for now, and you don't mind coming in at 4:59 for the marathon then I agree 40 to 50 kms a week. If you can run a "comfortable" 30km long run then you should be able to finish a marathon. The most difficult kms on a marathon for me is 28 to 32. That is where the serious negotiations with yourself start. Obviously, if your plan is a sub 4, sub 3:30 etc then you need to focus on speed work and quality over quantity during the week as well.
  7. Johnson Crane is early in the year, very hot and very flat. You work the full 42km and you actually wish for a hill and a down hill. I normally do the marathon. I decided next year to only do the 21km. January is early in the year for a marathon. Vaal is just as flat, I hated it. It feels like an obstacle course with all the potholes. Quite a popular race as your time is mat to mat and not gun to mat. Kaapse Hoop is mostly down hill except for the last 4 kms. The one huge factor is the heat and humidity... Yes it is an easy qualifier but the heat gets to most people. If you are planning to use Kaapse Hoop as a qualifier you better do heat training. Go do your long run at 12 in the afternoon, not at 6 in the morning. My best marathon is Sasol. Also flat but not as bad as Vaal and Johnson. I ran Sarens 21km this year and I quite enjoyed it. Could possibly be a good marathon to use. If you really want to impress everyone then use Deloittes Pretoria marathon as a qualifier [emoji48] But like Andrew said each to their own Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  8. Forgot to mention that for some reason.... My first comrades was a down run. I literally couldn't walk the next day. My ex-husband had to carry me down stairs, and help me in and out of the car... it REALLY hurts.
  9. Mine usually starts after the Botha's Hill downhill where you turn left at the robot into Pinetown. I think you still have 21km to go... You are buggered after the downhill and then 45th Cutting is still waiting for you...
  10. Lekker SABC 2.... from 6:30 or live streaming on www.sanlamcapetownmarathon.com
  11. So how are the CT marathoners tapering going? Are you all ready for your first marathon after Comrades? Looking forward to watching it on TV on Sunday
  12. The down run is not a down run. There is plenty of climbing, especially in the last 20km. When I did my first Comrades, which was also a down run, I didn't expect so much climbing...
  13. Couldn't agree more... and the flight tickets are ridiculously expensive the longer you wait.... I guess you can book the flight tickets before then?
  14. You made me laugh so hard now... Thank you!
  15. GP on Thursday, but I am sure the next step is a specialist.
  16. I hope all the 2018 Comrades Novices are on theHub running Strava group. Can we rename the group on Strava? It still says "BikeHUB Comrades Marathon 2016"
  17. Unfortunately still struggling with it. Going back to the doctor on Thursday as the medicine that seemed to be working is not a permanent solution. It is not as bad when I cycle, but running is a different story. It seems to be worse when I work hard (like running uphill). I am wondering now if it is stress (ulcer) related. Feeling pretty "gatvol" about this now.
  18. Congrats on the sub 2!! That is excellent for the route and the super hot weather. I was watching the 21km coming in and it was really not a big field that finished under a sub 2. I ended up doing the 10km with a friend of mine. I was not ready for the 21km and nausea got the better of me even on the 10km. It was a very tough route, most of my club members were swearing after finishing.
  19. Welcome to the club!! You won't regret the decision to take part. I truly believe it makes you a better person and it helps you in all different aspects of your life, not just training and running. Good luck with the preparation!! Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  20. I am running the 21km... going to be a long day for me... same elevation as Athrochoice... and that was one tough race for me. Also not looking forward to the heat. Next week seems to be around 30 degrees in Jhb, with a real feel of around 33....
  21. Do you feel the niggle only when running? I am sort of experiencing the same issue. My left calve has a niggle when I run, I don't feel it during the day. Hope it is nothing serious
  22. I know a guy that trained for a year without looking at his watch or stressing about pace, cadence etc... He wanted to run a BR in 2015... He ran Comrades with his watch in his pocket. He ran an 8:40! I am very tempted to do the same for the training months coming up until December. Relax a little about my pace and just start enjoying running again. It is getting way too scientific... and Strava is not helping. So how many will be running this weekend without looking at your watch?
  23. Would have loved to go to CT for the CT marathon. Just too expensive to go down twice a year for OMTOM and the CT Marathon. Will be watching it on TV, seeing that it is an IAAF gold label status marathon.
  24. So how many hubbers have entered for the 2018 down run? I am one of the 7000 that have entered! PS. And we have reached 5000 posts!!
  25. Good grief, that looks like something out of one of the Saw movies. Hope you heal up soon, and that the niggles will also disappear while resting.
