  1. I think this will affect the number of entries. An additional 2.5 km is far - for all types of runners.
  2. an additional 2.5 kms can take the back runners easily 20 minutes....
  3. I am in the same boat - for me, it is just so difficult to balance cycling and running right now. My priority is cycling and getting 180km fit for 94.7, but then I feel very guilty if I am not running. The plan is to run during the week and to do long rides on weekends. Can spring please come now? Not enjoying these cold spells at all and I am tired of the darkness all the time.
  4. Well, a couple of swear words come to mind... but this is a family thread so I will behave. Did my first 21km after Comrades. I probably chose the most difficult 21km in Gauteng for a "come back". The Arthrochoice race is just pure torture. Midrand is not flat and not very forgiving for unfit people like me. I have some work to do before Adrienne Hersch on the 10th of September (which is also a tough route) Kudos to Midrand Striders for a well-organised race. (They can sort out the admin part of things, goody bag and number collection were a mess). I have never seen so many JMPD members actually doing their jobs and helping the marshalls. They were even cheering the runners. Thank you for that. PS. I have seen the weirdest thing yesterday... Two (male) runners fighting and swearing at each other and a marshal keeping them off each other. I have never experienced this before. We normally like each other and we don't turn to violence.
  5. Happy happy Lexx!! Hope you have an awesome day!
  6. I won't mind shuffling at 4 min/km. I agree with Andrew, I actually struggled to watch it. Hope everyone had a good training weekend. I got a bit of a calve muscle niggle... Going for a massage tonight. Struggled to run on Saturday and yesterday my legs were non-existent on the bike. Hope you feel better soon Lexx. I am doing my first 21km on Sunday after Comrades... Well, that is going to be interesting, Athrochoice is one tough route... Hoping for muscle memory
  7. OMW... Check these walker's times at the IAAF World Champs. 50km in 3:33!! And 20 km in 1:18... Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  8. To be honest I have never used a training programme, so I can't comment. I do however know that some of my club mates use Coach Parry's training programme: https://coachparry.com/42km-training-program/ Good Luck with the training!
  9. What is this Comrades talk going on here?? This is way too early for me... I am still hibernating, struggling to get the training going.
  10. So after 3 glasses of wine and looking at my friend's Fenix 3 I bought the watch. I got it today! (Great service by TakeAlot) I am so excited I cannot wait to go run, but Murphy decided otherwise. I woke up with a cold and feeling terrible. Sigh....
  11. Congratulations!! Why did you select Barguil? Our teams were quite close - except for Barguil and I didn't go with Kettel.
  12. So the Fenix 3 is "on special" at TakeAlot... Not a bad price if you compare it to Sportmans Warehouse price of R10 500. https://www.takealot.com/garmin-fenix-3-sapphire-hr-grey/PLID42257002 My question is, how heavy is 86g on your wrist? My current watch is 43g. Anyone else using a Fenix 3 or 5?
  13. Went for my second road run last night after Comrades and I started cramping after 2kms...I have never experienced this before... I felt very sorry for myself as I stopped after 5km. Training is definitely not going as planned for July... Feeling useless at the moment and not sure if I will be able to run a 21km in Aug. Working hours and stress are also not helping.
  14. Dankie vir hierdie draad! Dit het my nou lekker laat lag.
  15. I definitely agree that Tough One is a 5. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  16. Glad to see Old Eds is a 2! Thank you to Pirates for this post on Facebook CTCM a 1?? Sucks that I am missing that.
  17. Wasn't this race cancelled last year? I think it is also the race where they always run out of water... but I could be mistaken.
  18. Thank you guys for supporting the Northgate race on Sunday. We had a record field, which I thought would never happen after the horrible weather on Saturday. It was a very busy day for us, mostly everything went well. There are a couple of things we can improve on for next year. My hero for the day was the GREAT Grand Master winner. Andre Jansen, he is 69 years old and he ran a 42:57!!!
  19. This saddens me!! RIP Leon Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  20. Would love to do Argus again, but it is just too expensive to go to CT for OMTOM and Argus. I wish it was week apart... Argus on the first weekend of course.
  21. If your body is telling you to rest then you can miss a 10km run Try the Rehidrate and then make a decision on Saturday. There are lots of races still coming this year.
  22. Have you tried Slow Mag? Maybe try the Rehidrate first for a couple of days and then if the problem persists then try Slow Mag fizzy in the evenings. I have restless legs and it really helps. Slow Mag also helped me when I started cramping at OMTOM. I took a fizzy 20km from the finish when nothing else seems to help. I had an interesting discussion last night with one of my cycling mates. He did the Jhb to Free State Dash the past weekend and he reckons stress messes up your race. Before a race, you normally work harder to crunch in all the work before you take leave for a race. Out of personal experience, I am convinced stress affects your performance. Sometimes the only option is to take a break and rest. Sort out your life/ work. LISTEN to your body.
  23. I also went for a ride yesterday. My first one for the year... Due to time constraints, I only did 44km and my bum was sore as hell. Don't think I will be able to sit on a bike for 100km as yet. My aim is for a 100km by the end of July. Feeling a bit stiff in weird places today, amazing how cycling is so different than running. The plan for this week is some treadmill time and indoor cycling while watching TdF.
  24. I also don't follow a program. I aim for x number of kms per week, which includes a long run, hill work, time trial and I want to add speedwork now. Do you belong to a club? It is always good to learn from fellow runners and train with fellow runners for your first Comrades. As mentioned before the mental prep is more important than the physical training.
