  1. Thanks for the support guys. I will be entering the Old Eds race... I guess my next 21km is a bit earlier than first anticipated... Thanks, Andrew!
  2. Yes, you can. I am working at the entries. If you are early you get a free t-shirt. Not many 10km races are giving t-shirts anymore.
  3. Our club's race is the 9th of July - Northgate 10km.
  4. I hit the wall normally at 28kms. I am then cursing in my head up to 32 kms... When I hit single digits then I get my second wind (well sometimes....)
  5. Kaapse Hoop is one of the "easier" qualifiers for Comrades. It is mostly downhill, except for the last couple of kilometers. Try and train in the heat as soon as summer starts. The race is very humid.
  6. Only have done it once, will never do it again. (did it back in 2014...I think it was before Old Mutual took it over.)
  7. Hahaha, I am sure I will. What I meant was that after a long ride (100km+) I can still walk normal and go to a family braai. After a marathon I just want to stay in bed and sleep. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  8. Hi, my name is MJ and I am addicted to running... [emoji4] Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  9. Couldn't agree more. You never know whom you are helping with your posts and replies. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  10. I also can't stomach anything for at least an hour or two after a run. I will try the Super M and maybe a rehydrate after that. Do you follow the same regime after cycling? I don't treat it the same as you feel pretty "normal" after you cycled. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  11. Great MJ! It is our club's race, will be working on the day. Sorry to hear that SeaBee! Hope you feel better soon. I think you just need proper rest until this thing gets sorted, I know it is very frustrating. Very interesting! Well, I am doing a lot of things wrong according to this article. I don't drink a recovery drink. Do you guys do it? Which product do you use?
  12. I did it in 2015 - 277m of climbing. Beautiful surroundings, really enjoyed it even though it was very tough.
  13. I just tell myself when I feel useless and unfit that this is the worst I will feel and things will get better... Next race for me is Athrochoice 21km in Midrand on the 20th of August. Very hilly race if I remember correctly.
  14. Yesterday was the end of my 3 week rest period. Went for a bike setup on Saturday. My new bike is all set up and ready to go. I was supposed to go cycling yesterday but due to family commitments that didn't happen. Ended up going to gym and almost died after 20 minutes on the watt bike.... Tough times lying ahead... 15. Yes, you still have 7% chance of not finishing....
  16. I know a lot of runners that always finish in the last 15 minutes because they run slow and that is life. They still train 1000km+ for Comrades.
  17. I would love to get my hands on the Comrades data. (Part of my day job is to analyze data) The more information you have regarding cut-offs etc. the better you can prepare yourself. They should actually ask the runners to fill in a small survey when you pick up your race pack. Questions like km done for the year, info about injuries etc....
  18. 55% of H didn't make it... So if you are a novice and don't have a great qualification time then you have a 50/50 chance of finishing.... If I knew this statistic with my first Comrades I would have been **** scared...
  19. I have two huskies. They love running. Just difficult for one person to run with both of them... I am sure I will run a 5km PB with them...If I can hold on for so long. They love it, the younger one used to go for walks from 12 weeks... If you pick him up, he used to growl and bark at you.
  20. Thanks, not a bad price for the 18's. I am currently using the 18's still. Had my rant already about the 19's.... Will give Cumulus a try, they normally come out in better colors than the Nimbus.
  21. https://www.sportsmanswarehouse.co.za/product/asics-womens-gel-nimbus-19-road-running-shoes I see they are a bit cheaper now... Sorry forgot about the 25% Vitality discount... so that is R1950. That is the going rate for Asics!!!! This is the main reason why I am considering to move to another brand. I bought a pair of 18's at the OMTOM Expo for cheaper, so at least I am covered for the next year up to Comrades. I get about 900km per pair, so that is R2,17 per km!!!
  22. I also don't run with valuables - except for my Asics (R2800...) and my watch which is about R5000.... I don't run alone, well most of the times. This is definitely not something I pay attention to when running. I also feel differently about it when cycling.
  23. "Fordyce said he managed to get home and put on another pair of running shoes and continue his training."
  24. My 2c is to concentrate on your 10/21km times in the "off" season - July to November. Well, that is my plan for this year.
