  1. I was on a very strict diet a couple of years ago. It forced me into the habit of eating regular small meals. I think my problem is eating so late at night. I only run at 7, finish at 8, which means eating at 8:30 - 9, going to bed at 10 - 10:30.
  2. I eat 6 times a day, drink about 2.5 liters of water a day Breakfast around Fat-free Yoghurt and nuts with a fruit 10 am snack: Apple and some provitas 12:30 Lunch: Normally chicken salad or veggies and a protein 15:00: Banana or some raisins, some provitas An hour before I run (normally at 18:00) half a future life lite bar or raisins Dinner 8 or sometimes 9 pm: Protein and veggies / salad (I think this might be the problem that I am eating too late)
  3. Someone needs to explain this to me... Some people lose so much weight by just running and still eating whatever they want. I have never seemed to lose weight with running, and I don't eat junk food. I have very healthy eating habits.
  4. Thanks for the race report Ferret!! Congratulations on completing the marathon and supporting your wife. 4:19 is an excellent time for drinking beer, stopping and taking photos! London Marathon is on my bucket list. Please let me know how the entries work, as they seem to also have a ballot system?
  5. So this is happening this weekend, are you going to watch it? http://citiusmag.com/nikes-breaking2-project-date-athletes-pacers-plan/
  6. Good for you Cobus! I am in exactly the same boat (well not the 3:30 marathon boat, but the run at the same pace and no speedwork boat) My plan is to start with speedwork after the Comrades rest. I slowed down drastically the last year and a half, struggling with the nausea thing. My focus will be to lose some weight (which will be very difficult to do in winter...), and then to run a PB on a 10 km, probably Clearwater Mall 10km on the 19th of August 2017. I am a real novice when it comes to speedwork as I have never concentrated on it before.
  7. One of my club mates got hit by a car at Colgate two years ago (exactly today 2 years ago). I remember running past the car and seeing the blood. At that stage, I didn't know it was her. The guy was drunk and a couple of the fellow runners got hold of him... To this day nothing has happened to him and my friend is still recovering So I have a mental block against Colgate... I don't think I will run it again.
  8. Thanks, guys. It was tough, especially Sunday's RAC Long run. I felt like phoning Uber at 40kms... but somehow you get a second wind and the kilometers gets less and less. The route is pure torture...Almost 1000m of climbing. I met one of my friends on the route and we motivated each other. Luckily the 60km was 1.5km short... I have never been so happy about a shorter route in my life. The finish is a letdown - I wanted a finish banner, a medal, pom-pom girls, balloons, and champagne... (I know this is not an official race, but some sort of recognition would be great ) Kudos to RAC for an excellent long run, water points were amazing, first time I had nik-naks while running. I will recommend this long run to anyone training for Comrades. It will teach you to HTFU... (No other way of describing it...) I needed the RAC long run to prepare myself mentally for the 4th of June. My last long run is Saturday - Jackie Meckler 25km. The main focus now is to stay healthy and lots of sleep...
  9. Seconding this guy. People ask me if I follow him as his trusty second. He's actually too fast. And I'm actually not trusty. With traffic and comrades-chaos I more than likely wouldn't be able to keep up with ol' #fastlegs . My lovely dad takes him to the start, I see him in Hillcrest after which I make my way to the finish. The entire time I'm driving thinking 'who the hell would dooooo this to themselves'. It's a good thing I don't dedicate myself to being his second. I'm so crap. I take the T out of Trusty. (See what I did there). 3 years ago he asked me to give him a banana when he came through Hillcrest. Easy enough. Or not. I thought I would be more than just a banana handler and open it for him so that he could just grab and chow. I like to exceed expectations. I'm diligent like that. All was going well as I stood there focused on 'The Handoff'. Banana open. Donning my running shoes because he does.not.stop.running and I struggle to keep up for that 100m or so-boobs almost knocking me unconscious, back fat escaping. I digress. As I saw his gorgeous being magnificently appear at the top of old main road I felt banana-ready. And then it broke. Faaaaaarrrrkkkk There by my highly neglected Nike lunar glides lay his sustenance to get up Bothas Hill. ???????????????? Seriously, I had ONE job. One. Job. I naturally burst into fits of giggles. But he was coming and I needed to act fast. Focus Kelly. So quick thinking me picked it up, licked the dirt off and tried to squelch it back into the part remaining in my hand. I thought nobody had noticed but across the road I saw my best friend almost weeing her pants with laughter. He was nearly here. Act cool. I gave it to him whilst holding eye contact like a bit of a psycho so he didn't see the spot of dirt I had missed on the now mushy, sand-tinged banana. Handoff successful. ???? In future years my banana handling skills have improved somewhat. I can now multi task with a banana and a GU-zero droppages. ???????? So to the partners who second on the entire route. Salt, food, massages even. slow clap #overachievers. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  10. Did you read her piece about the banana? It is so funny!! She just replied that she will have more copies in 10 days. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  11. I bought the book but gave it away as a birthday gift... I also want to order one. I will email Kelly and ask her if she has any copies available. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  12. Sorry to hear that Lexx, you were on a roll. All you can do now is to rest, get lots of sleep and drink lots of vitamins. It doesn't help stressing about not training, you have done the work already. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  13. 130 meters. Link to last year's race : https://www.strava.com/activities/558843359/shareable_images/map_based?hl=en-US&v=1461818128 Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  14. If it is not going away thru self-medication then maybe antibiotics is the only option. It will set you back a week but at least it gets sorted.
  15. I ran my best Comrades time on the Up run. Then again I was better prepared and it was only my second Comrades. This year I am not half as well prepared, I will be happy with a finish this year. Good to hear you are enjoying your running. I guess we all go thru an emotional roller coaster with running. You must enjoy the "highs" and be thankful for it. I must say I am looking forward to the 4th of June and all the emotions that go with it. I am even more excited about winter training - getting on my bike and swimming, taking a small break from running...
  16. I read about the sub2 hours project in the Runners World. To me, it feels fake and too scientific. Do you have some reading material for me about your study about calf to bicep ratio?
  17. Unfortunately, I missed it coming back from Loskop. That sounds very unprofessional. I hope they won't ask her to commentate again. Can't wait to watch the highlights. How great is the winning time of 2:17:02 for Mary Keitany? She weighs 42kg, is 1.58m tall (exactly my length, so I can't use the excuse anymore that short people are slower....) and her PB on a 21km is 1:05. B-rad maybe you should look at this: (Strava search results of the 2015 up run, please take note that the 2015 run was 800m longer...) https://www.strava.com/running-races/2015-comrades
  18. Awesome time, congratulations Lexx!! I had serious FOMO yesterday doing the 21km and not the 50km. The water points were brilliant on the 21km. I haven't seen so much food before on a 21km. Pancakes, boere wors, bananas, sweets, oranges and potatoes. I love this race, will be back next year for the 50km. Hopefully not the weekend after OMTOM again next year. 19. Lexx, how was Loskop? The 21km started late and my training buddy had to fix a puncture before we went riding. I enjoyed being on my bike. It seems like perfect Loskop weather. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  20. So my weekend training plan for the next three weeks: Loskop 21km this coming weekend, and a slow jog on Sunday of about 15km. Cradle 21km on the 27th of April and then the RAC Long Run 60 km on the 30th of April. Jackie Meckler 25km on the 6th of May. What is your training program looking like in May? When is the serious tapering starting, seeing that Comrades is a week later?
  21. My OMTOM 56km stats: I'm 1.56 (I know I am a shorty...) Avg Pace: 6:44 / km Avg Cadence: 167 spm Max: 186 spm Avg Stride Length: 0.88m Calories: 3180
  22. OMW he is tall! I think for every 3 steps I will take, he takes one! How tall is he?
  23. Good grief, maybe he should rather enter the ultra
  24. When do the entries open for the 21km? I convinced my brother to do his first 21km ever next year...
  25. hahaha, will do! What beer do you drink?
