  1. So irritated with this Jhb weather. Couldn't run at all this weekend. Stay warm and healthy everyone. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  2. So with all this "OFF" period training talk, how long do you rest after Comrades before you start running again? Some of my fellow runners suggest 5 weeks... but I just can't get this right... Last year I wasn't running for 3 weeks and I could kill someone at work from frustration.
  3. I am not sure about stride, but found this on Cadence:https://runnersconnect.net/improve-running-speed-step-frequency-and-step-length/ How to calculate cadenceTo determine your own cadence, simply count the number of times your left foot hits the ground whilst running for 30 seconds. Let’s imagine yours turned out to be 40. Double that to get the total for 60 seconds (80); then double it again to get the total for both feet (160). Your cadence (for that particular running speed) is therefore 160spm. Another Interesting article to read: http://www.scienceofrunning.com/2010/11/speed-stride-length-x-stride-frequency.html
  4. WTF??? Sorry, no other words come to mind. That is incredible!! Great going Stretch. I think "Happy" is an understatement
  5. Rather take it easy Andrew, no need to do anything stupid now. I already registered but won't be able to go. I will still pay the R50 as it is for a good cause. I stopped counting how many people I had to tap on the shoulder at races because of cars coming and they have earphones in.... It is so dangerous... if you need music to run instead of chatting to your running mates, you need to get new running buddies Race Referees need to start enforcing this rule, zero tolerance! I enjoy training with music - at the gym or when I am running alone when training (which rarely happens). If I do run with earphones I only use one so that I am aware of the cars and sounds around me.
  6. One of my club mates got DQ'd because he had a banner with poles at the finish... He dedicated his race to his aunt that passed away. He phoned them afterwards and they reversed it. Why would you get disqualified? Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  7. The plan is also under 5 hours for the first half and then to see what happens in the second half. This year is the "no time pressure" Comrades for me, I am aware that my training didn't go as planned so having unrealistic time goals are not worth stressing about. I enjoyed my previous up run, so I hope this year will be the same. Couldn't agree more!! It all depends on the day.
  8. Awesome time Edgar, you are on a roll! What is your Comrades goal?
  9. Looking at my training log for previous years I ran my last 21km 3 weeks before Comrades. I will stick to that this year as well. I am running my last 21km this coming Saturday. My plan was to run the Pirates 21km reverse route on Sunday... but seeing that it is Mother's Day on Sunday and I have a bachelorette's Saturday night I think it is much wiser to not run on Sunday... I am also going for a weekly Neurobian injection up to Comrades and increasing the vitamin intake... It is also the start of the official "no kissing of family members" period.
  10. For some reason I thought JM is a flat route...It was the first time I ran it. It had some undulating drags. The legs felt very tired and I had to dig deep in the last 4kms. The plan was 2:30, I came in at 2:32. I am happy with the time. Overall a great race, well organized and not many cars on the route. I will add this to my running calendar in the future. 11. Good luck to everyone doing Colgate tomorrow, especially to ScottC-M running his first 32km. Take it easy on the first lap. The course is quite flat. Good luck with your marathon tomorrow, Stretch. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  12. Ross Tucker's report http://sportsscientists.com/2017/05/eliud-kipchoge-20025/ Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  13. I feel exactly the same. I felt like this in previous years as well. So you are not alone. Don't worry about it. You have done a lot of training, sleeping and nutrition is now important. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  14. Ross Tucker's prediction for tomorrow Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  15. I was also skeptical, I took the bottle with me and drank it over 30 minutes or so. There was an article in the runner's world a couple of months ago about a lady that only uses milk at races. No water and no coke
  16. I will try the orange with salt, something I haven't thought of before. I am going to stick with my normal plan: Eat every hour, I run with race food and I sip on a gel every 20 min. (Can't stomach a whole gel at a time). I run with Hammer gels, but they are just so expensive. I tried PVM's gel - I didn't like that at all. I eat potatoes on the route, try not to drink water at every point. I only drink coke when the going gets tough. At the RAC long run I drank a Super M Choc Flavoured milk at 30km - it was the best!!! I will have one again half way at Comrades. I am a bit concerned about cramping - It is a new thing that I am experiencing while running. I see a big hype about Cramp Out. Has anyone used it? One of my clubmates says it tastes disgusting but it works.
  17. Looking forward to the potatoes! Personally, I think there are too many water points at Comrades
  18. I am going to miss it - running Jackie Mekler tomorrow morning. I agree it is just way too scientific and feels like they are cheating.
  19. http://www.runnersworld.com/2-hour-marathon/how-to-watch-saturdays-sub-2-marathon-attempt I see Paula Radcliffe is commentating again...
  20. This sounds like a good idea!! It usually happens at our club's aches and pains braai.
  21. We stay in Amanzimtoti, we usually book out Stella Maris for the club. With the whole nausea problem, I stopped drinking alcohol completely from January up to end of Feb when I sorted out the problem. I now drink maybe two Savannah Lights a week... I am not drinking fit at all
  22. We always go for a 4 km jog the day before Comrades. It is a club tradition. It is a slow jog, everybody together. We go to the expo on the Friday. After the Saturday morning jog we don't do anything, a couple of club members will drink like students on spring break... I stay away from alcohol for at least a week before Comrades Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  23. I was on a very strict diet a couple of years ago. It forced me into the habit of eating regular small meals. I think my problem is eating so late at night. I only run at 7, finish at 8, which means eating at 8:30 - 9, going to bed at 10 - 10:30.
  24. I eat 6 times a day, drink about 2.5 liters of water a day Breakfast around Fat-free Yoghurt and nuts with a fruit 10 am snack: Apple and some provitas 12:30 Lunch: Normally chicken salad or veggies and a protein 15:00: Banana or some raisins, some provitas An hour before I run (normally at 18:00) half a future life lite bar or raisins Dinner 8 or sometimes 9 pm: Protein and veggies / salad (I think this might be the problem that I am eating too late)
  25. Someone needs to explain this to me... Some people lose so much weight by just running and still eating whatever they want. I have never seemed to lose weight with running, and I don't eat junk food. I have very healthy eating habits.
