  1. I run with Orthotics. After my first marathon, I had ITB and could not walk properly. I went to Dr. Dubowitz (He is a sports podiatrist) in Rosebank. I pronate badly and the orthotics help a lot. I don't have any pain or injuries. It is expensive. R5000 that you have to pay and then claim from your medical aid. If you do high mileage it only lasts 2 years. For me, it is absolutely worth it.
  2. Thank you Andrew, I heard Snake road was very quick. I think I will also do Ottosdal next year, change of scenery and JC is so hot...
  3. Thanks, Stretch, you are right, it is still early... but we are runners, and it is the end of the world if you miss one long run or you are 20/30 seconds of your pace. Good grief, 295km in January already??
  4. I am glad I am not alone. Feeling very distraught right now. I am not even close to the kms I am supposed to be doing now. I also keep going thru the same cycle: try to train, feel crap, rest, feel guilty for resting, try to train etc... Have you been to a doctor?
  5. I can only describe JC as my worst running race ever... Started off in the gridlock traffic after we left at 3:45, and getting to Tom Jones at 4:40. At 5:50 we were still in the car, I jumped out to go to the loo, ran to the start and started 5 minutes late. We started right at the back, so it was a 3 km obstacle course to get thru all the walkers and "bigger" runners. At 7km my wheels came off with stomach cramps and usual nausea. I told my running mate that I am not going to do the marathon today, I am suffering and I am not even halfway yet. So I bailed... I ran my worst 21km time yet and a guy with a pram with twins came flying past me. Yesterday after the race I felt like drinking straight out of a wine bottle and eating McDonald's (which I haven't done in more than 6 years..) Going to the specialist again this afternoon, hoping he can sort out my nausea. Congrats to everyone who had an excellent training weekend, I am very jealous.
  6. I am doing the marathon. Stressing about it as I feel very sluggish at the moment and not running my normal pace. I see this as a training run and if I feel strong I will try and better my qualifying time. Good luck Andrew, it looks like we are going to have some good running weather. Good luck for 70.3 Shaper!
  7. I do.. very very short, else I lose them...
  8. Same happened to me with the Nimbus 16, toes were sticking out way before it was worn out. All my Asics are definitely worn out if you look underneath, and I am not a "shuffler" .
  9. Currently Nimbus 18: The Asics 16 pair with 706 kms got holes in them and wasn't worn out.
  10. I run with Asics Nimbus since I started running in 2014. The sizes differ every year... 16 fitted me perfectly, 17 a bit tighter and 18 I thought I bought the wrong size Asics are ridiculously expensive and I feel niggles from 900km onwards. I am keen to try another brand. I am leaning towards Brooks, but I haven't made up my mind.
  11. I also don't sleep during the day, keeps me up at night. Haven't reached Jedi Status yet . After a long run I take a shower, sit/lie in front of the TV being very lazy and after an hour or so I am dead hungry... I will eat everything in the fridge. Just don't hand me food directly after a race..
  12. I think you haven't recovered from being sick and waking up for a baby is not proper sleep. Maybe you should rest this weekend, not much you can do now to prepare you for Johnson Crane. I stopped all vitamins for about 3 months now to see if it caused my nausea. I feel tired in the afternoons at work so I think I need to start taking supplements again. So, what is your normal pre-marathon weekend training like? I am running a 15km tomorrow and a 10 or 12km on Sunday. Most of next week I will be resting, probably be running a total of 12km for the week before Johnson's.
  13. Sounds like the Beer Run... R300 for a 5km and I think 4 beers
  14. We have Om Die Dam, Easter 100 (poor man's Two Oceans) and then Loskop. Most clubs like RAC have a 60km or some sort of long run.
  15. Good luck, don't stress about it. It is your first one, doesn't matter what your time is. It is going to hurt but it is a great accomplishment. Think of it as 5 water tables, don't count the kilometers.
  16. I run with a cap and sunglasses. I am lucky not to sweat as much as other runners, especially with a cap. I also move my sunglasses a little bit further if it starts fogging up, that always works. Thank you for this Andrew, will definitely try it next time on a climb. I normally try to look down and not in front of me, it is very discouraging to see how long you still have to climb.
  17. Hahaha, I was running next to him once and he said to me that is his favorite response to supporters shouting "Keep it up". I almost fell down laughing while running.
  18. Was it perhaps a very tall guy from Krugersdorp?
  19. I would highly recommend it, it is such a beautiful race. I would definitely get my permanent number for Two Oceans.
  20. I often run in the Cradle, where there are lots of cyclists. They don't greet. I think it is all the unfit ones... it takes too much energy to just nod or say hi...
  21. Hahahaha, well at comrades you don't need an excuse to walk.
  22. I emailed admin a long time ago about a runner's forum... I guess they didn't listen. This is awesome, hopefully more cyclists will join in the running "fun". It doesn't matter which distance or pace you are running at. Maybe we should rename the Strava Group as well?
  23. I feel the same about posting... some of the cyclists on theHub can be very intimidating. At least the runners understand each other
  24. I guess I have tough competition then on Strava.
