  1. Not sure if the width really matters with the Adamo. If you find it too wide then a cable tie to narrow the nose works wonders. I bought mine online (eBay) and paid about R800 a while back. I know Triangle Sports in PE have and you can buy off their website (www.trianglesports.co.za) otherwise I think Troisports in JHB have. My first MTB (Giant Anthem) came with a Gobi. After a few rides I couldn't handle it anymore so bought the Adamo Peak and have never looked back.
  2. +1 on the Adamo Saddle. Have one on my TT bike and MTB. Done Ironman and 3-day stage race and both times my ass was the only thing that wasn't sore... They take a while to get use to but they are designed so that you sit properly on the saddle. There was an Adamo Peak (MTB version) selling in Classifieds a few days back for R500.
  3. I've been struggling for about a year now with what the Physio thought was a herniated disc. I haven't been able to afford to go for an MRI and have tried to avoid surgery at all costs. To be honest, I found all the treatments from the Physios made it worse. Been on a gym programme for last while now to try strengthen core, back, etc and seems to be helping a bit. It's extremely frustrating - I know! But listen to the guys above and use surgery as a last resort.
  4. Thanks for the input. I currently have 680mm bars and they feel really wide. Maybe I just need to get use to them. Coming from a 600mm bar on the 26" - they're taking some getting use to.
  5. Thanks. Have a Scott Spark Elite 29er. Just had to get a longer stem (100mm) to get more comfy on bike. Been riding with a flat bar and had one on my previous 26" as well.
  6. OK, thanks - so really down to personal preference then.
  7. So in the market for a new bar - what is the difference (if any) between a flat bar and a low-rise bar? Is it just down to personal preference and riding style or is there a more pragmatic answer (handling, etc)? Thanks
  8. it's these things that make riding amazing. Couldn't agree more. Fitted my son's pedals last night after work and showed him how to clip in and out. He spent 30 min riding around in the dark not wanting to get off. Now all he wants to do is go ride this weekend!! Gotta love that!
  9. Sorry man - really feel you! Must be tough!!
  10. Awesome to share these experiences with our kids!
  11. I've ridden with him a few times on some fairly technical terrain and hes handled so well. Got our first race coming up with the whole family taking part (wife and both boys - 12 & 8). Making some awesome memories!
  12. ... you ask your 12 year old son what he wants for his birthday and he says: "a pair of MTB shoes and clip-in pedals please" Looking forward to many more happy km's with him!!!
  13. I've got the Spark Elite and it's a fantastic bike! Build quality is phenomenal!!
  14. Phone the Joburg International Mail Centre (011) 9616000. Good luck getting through though - it's a nightmare. They had a parcel of mine for a month until I threw my toys and they eventually released it!!! Hope that helps...
  15. Take a look at the Buzz Racks as well. Bought the 4-bike ride on from www.rackandcarry.co.za and had great service from Barry. Rack is really well made and he'll deliver nationwide.
  16. Road or MTB? Roadies are meeting Tuesdays & Thursdays at 5:30am at the Caltex Garage on the corner of 8th Ave & Main Road in Walmer. They ride down to the beachfront and do loops around the casino area. Not too fast if you're reasonably fit. Mon, Wed & Fri mornings at BP Garage, corner of 10th Ave & Main Road - also at 5:30am. Pace depends on how the group is feeling on the day. You can contact Cyclo-Pro (lbs) in PE about when the MTB guys ride. Hope that helps...
  17. did you need to change your rear derailleur? How much of a difference would the 26t - 28t make or is it more in the compact crank?
  18. Thanks for all the replies. So it's just the crank then - that's great! Have a SRAM Rival groupset.
  19. Stupid question I'm sure, but if I want to go from a standard crank (53/39) to a compact crank, what do I need to change besides the crank? I'm currently running a 53/39 with an 11-26 cassette. Would I need to change the cassette and R-DR as well? Thanks for the advice
  20. I've just bought a Scott Spark Elite 29er and all I can say is WOW! The build quality on the frame is incredible! Got an awesome deal on one on the Hub and added some 2012 American Classic wheels. All in all came in at R21k. The Elites go for about R19,5 upwards depending on the bike shop. Well worth looking into!
  21. Just bought a Scott Spark Elite and replaced wheels with the new 2012 American Classics.
  22. Triangle Sports offer an online shop
  23. Triangle Sports in PE - Official shop of Ironman South Africa www.trianglesports.co.za
  24. The only thing that seems a bit odd is their new Direct Post mount (position of back brake) but I'm assuming that it's just the position of the brake that's changed and nothing else. Thanks for the help chaps...
  25. No it was a mate (who is a bit more clued up than me) so no 'sales talk', etc. I cannot honestly see the problem - a groupset is a groupset...
