  1. No Dual suspension lag on my HT
  2. Surely to compare apples with apples you have to compare the Vipa to the S-Works Epic model, becuase it is an elite racer type bike. Comparing those two on price the Vipa is a way better deal than the Spez. S-Works Epic at >R100k vs +-R50k build for the Vipa? You can really pimp your ride for that R50k you're saving. Drop R30k on ENVE rims on Chris King or Tune hubs and you still under the price of the S-Works. And then get a matching ENVE cockpit setup  .

Just entered. Looking forward to the new route. Hopefully not too many bottlenecks at the single tracks. Anybody have a profile of the 55km route? See it's not on their website.
  4. Must be that big spade you were swinging when I saw you on the build day
  5. My "issue" with XCO is my fitness. In a XCO race there's nowehere to hide. You can't hang at the back of the field and cruise along, cos then you'll get lapped sooner rather than later. (Is the rule that you're eliminated if you're lapped?). This is especially relevant on a short course like the Slammer. That's probably the main reason why I'm not entering the race this weekend. I'd really love to do it, and I love the Slammer, but I don't want to be lapped by some super racer while I'm doing my second lap.
  6. Watch out now, you might offend somebody using "coconuts and top decks" in the same sentence. Hell you might offend actual coconuts by using the term in that way. Mods gonna get u!!!!
  7. I'm light brown according to me 5 year old  .
  8. By the same argument, Nino Schurter killed last year on a 27.5, therefore it must be better???? Flawed logic I'm afraid. It all comes down to personal choice. Schurter found the 27.5 to be better for him, for others the 29 will be better. You cannot definitively say that one is better than the other.
  9. I ride 32 - 18 on my 26'er, and it hurt the first couple of times. Now, after a year riding at least once a week, I'm thinking of going 17 or 16 at the back. Most of my riding is at Tokai, so I'm thinking long and hard whether I'm strong enough for those hills with 16.
  10. My bad. Still double the price of Hopes. So still pretty expensive.
  11. Tune hubs are super light, but also super expensive. Similar price range to Chris Kings. Haven't used a pair myself, but I read a few forum posts questioning their durability. They are super sexy though. I'd be very surprised if the don't have adaptors for TA. My dream hubs if money was no object .
  12. I use my Bryton watch to record rides and save to Strava. Learnt my lesson after I broke my phone and lost all content (Contacts, photos, movies, etc).
  13. Leave at home unless u really need it. I had an S2 that went tits up after I had a fall on my mtb. Rather delicate phones unfortunately. Rather get a cheap small phone which u can use for cycling.
  14. I bought a bar and it came 680mm long, after riding 580mm bar for a number of years. I figured I'd give it a try for a bit, and a year later I'm thinking I need to go wider. Definitely worth giving the wider bar a go first, before cutting. You might be surprised.
  15. I know you won't be able to replace these, bit u might be able to claim for an equivalent from your insurance. I lost my Oakleys at Tokai earlier this year and successfully claimed.
  16. Fully agree with you. To get this close to 10kg you looking at dropping big randelas, for a smallish return. I reckon what you've got is an excellent balance of the weight - reliability - cost equation. Take a dump before you ride and you will drop the 500g (or so) you'd save by upgrading the fork .
  17. Great looking bike. Super weight for dual suss as well. Especially considering you still have to add stem, saddle and seatpost, which I assume you'll go weight weenie on. Probably save another 100g or so at least. Looking to do a hardtail 27.5 build in the new year, so been following this closely. Now ride it like it's stolen .
  18. I have a pair of Race Face. The top of the glove is mesh, so it breathes very nicely. Good for summer, but won't offer much protection in a tumble.
  19. What frame is this on Mountain Bru? Found a thread on www.mtbr.com where they talk about this prob in Scott Scales. I have a Scale and had the problem as well. Two of the guys on that forum said they redished the wheels and it's all good.
  20. Nothing wrong with the frame. Some frames require the wheel to be dished differently. Especially if you want to run wider tyres. I had the same prob with my Scott RC carbon frame. Frame definitely not bent, just the wheen was dished to suit a different frame. Either way, much easier, and probably safer to redish the wheel than try to bend the frame.
  21. MTB race in CT. I know this is currently not on the cards due to SANPARKS regs, but the following route or thereabout would be great. Start in town, hook up the singletrack and jeep track Deer Park side, head around the corner to Rhodes Mem, then up past Kirstenbosch to Cecilia Forest (might need to hit the road for a bit here), then up to Constantia Nek and up Vlakkenberg via the back route, then either down to Tokai or further across to Silvermine, round the dam, then on down to Noordhoek. Could probably do a route all the way to Cape Point if you look hard enough.
  22. For some frames its OK, but certain frames with very little clearance at the back require special attention when dishing the wheel. Better to take them in with the frame, and it should be a fairly quick fix. I wouldn't do a race like that btw, even a short one. The photo was a bit dark, but the clearance between tyre and frame looks mighty tight. Anything goes wrong during the race and the tyre's rubbing the frame, which could damage the frame.
  23. Wheels weren't dished to suit your frame. Had a similar prob with a set of second hand wheels I bought. Had the rear one dished to suit the frame and they're right as rain.
  24. I think it's only Shimano that can change from 2x to 3x on the shifter itself. For Sram you have to get a new front shifter.
  25. I actually found this to be sweeter than most, due to the pumpkin / butternut flavour. I think this was the sweetest craft beer I've tasted so far. I remember thinking that my wife might even like it. And she hates beer.
