  1. You're right, I am confusing it with 2016... Looks the same 2017. Removing all the nonsense resizing parameters from the URL gives us a nice big and clear image.
  2. That's cheap, I paid R390 and only got 60km... However it does come with 1800m of climbing and from previous years I do recall that it tries to break you. So good value at R6.5 per kilo - I guess
  3. Yeah I also liked it when you could do it on the day. I stay in Stellenbosch and ride to the venue (15km). My dad stays on Vlottenburg but now has to drive all the way to Somerset Mall to get his number.
  4. 10k ?! Heavens no, my bike cost me R9k. New drivetrain will be about R2k and lasts me at least 7,500km.
  5. Dang!! OK, guess they seriously charged PPA with a day permit for each 66km rider.
  6. Question : Anyone else heard Gary at the start saying they had to pay Cape Nature R28k just to open the gates to Groenland berg? By my calculations that means they charged R100 per rider going up there? There was 127 on the ride and 138 on the race.
  7. It's sorta why I have a reputation for riding tyres until they are well and truly bugger. Same goes for my drivetrain, I ride it until the chain breaks. Keep it cheap and affordable. The other thing that also helps me give less varks is I keep it simple. Hard tail, cheap cycle computer, flat pedals, deore level components... you get the picture. Keep it simple, stupid
  8. These bridges are easy, never had issues with this one or back when Backsberg still had one. Might downgrade from the long route depending on how the bronchitis I have been booked off with go. Doc's note says I'm fit to resume duties on the 13th... so just in time then About water getting into your bike, I recall I had this debate with someone else about the Agulhas MTB ride and the beach section. It's a bike designed for going offroad, where it is dirty and wet, it's part of the territory. I ride my bike on the beach, sometimes in the water, no problem. If the headset creaks, then open it and clean it, same goes for the other areas. I'd rather have more fun and regular maintenance than no fun and slightly less regular maintenance. My bike is 250km away from 20,000km.
  9. My 3rd 66km, and slowest. Really enjoyed it though and apologies to anyone that may have been annoyed by all my coughing. Went to the doc this morning and got booked off for the week, bronchitis. Sure glad I did not go to the doc before the ride else I would have missed it, now thankfully all I am missing is work.
  10. No, it is different from what I can tell on their tiny jpeg route map.
  11. I would say it is.
  12. Daily commute home Detour via my street
  13. Took me to the start of a little ride to the coast.
  14. Trails home were a bit wet.
  15. Oh yeah, that blonde? She cruised past us at the bottom of Skyfall.
  16. Totally agree with you on the E-bikes, and please can we call them what they really are? They contain a motor (electric) but still a motor so they are motorbikes.
  17. Talk about sewerage, well, we did not have any - but did go through this really long culvert under Helshoogte. Pretty freaky and cool at the same time cause you just need to keep focused on the light on the other side.
  18. Damn! This was more demanding than I thought but still a lot of fun. Really could have done with the pint of blood I gave away on Friday...
  19. Ran the 1.5km in flip flops behind my daughter, this is an excellent event to get youngsters into the thing. Well organised and loads of fun. Looking forward to tomorrow.
  20. Got mine via SMS too. I donated blood yesterday so I am expecting a suoer quick ride tomorrow. Gonna do it for scenery.
  21. Saw the route map and it looks like a lekker pakslae. Looking forward to this one. I'm doing the 60km on Sunday and my daughter is doing the 1.5km tomorrow.
  22. Next to the trail I spotted these.
  23. Awesome! I've missed Ribbok. How many of the dead/burnt trees have come down so far?
  24. They really should update the route maps. I've been emailing about that for years now. Never has the Orange loop been included in this route yet every year they show the same route map featuring the orange loop.
  25. Fantastic event. The only time I ever got a podium finish (3rd place for ou ballies). Wish I could make it this year but maybe next year again. Keep up the good work Naas and team.
