  1. Home, first time taking a single speed on the trails...
  2. Dang! Yes! Back when Engen was still at Nelsons Creek - 2 days. Fantastic.
  3. I actually prefer a bit of breeze, else there is too much dust, these trails are rather dry this time of year. But not like the hurricane that was the 2013 Tour de PPA. Nooit weer!
  4. Jinne, tomorrow this time I will still be chopping af.... That 6am start though.
  5. Jy sê hom Jan Veldsman!
  6. I'm afraid that with the trend of moving road races out of towns this might be the last One Tonner I will be doing. If that is the case it means I will only be riding my road bike once a year for those two laps around the peninsula. According to the race organisers I was the only rider who completed all 6 Trans Karoo rides. It sounds far more intimidating than it is, did my first K2C in 2011 and though that was the ultimate, then TK came along and I just had to try it. Got hooked. The reason it died was because it just costs too much to host. PPA made a R60k loss on the last one. Not that it will ever happen, but if they ever open TB to solo riders I would do it. Bicycles have one saddle for a reason, unless it's a tandem - however then you are technically bringing two horse power to a one horse power race. Sometimes when a race dies it makes way for something new, from TK was born the Cederberg 100 Miler and that is loads of fun, my current favourite ride on the calendar.
  7. I hacked together that graphic to bring across the fact that there are harder things to do than a little ride down to the coast from Willowmore.
  8. I'd much rather prefer if they have events that are free for their members, like Fedhealth does.
  9. But was it solo? Totally forgot about these 3 I actually enjoyed, thanks for the reminder : RollercoasterSpur MTB ClassicMontagu Mountain Mania
  10. In the past 7 years that I have been cycling there has been a few events that have come and gone. Some of the ones that have gone and are no more I seem to forget about, whereas others I think back with fond memories and miss them. So I thought I'd start a thread where we can all bemoan the passing of some of our favorite events. For me the one I miss most is Trans Karoo.
  11. Always! At least once a week. My flip-flops too.
  12. Yeah, but the trails around here.... My previous employer decided to move to Cape Town, so I quit and found another job in Stellenbosch just so I could keep riding my bike to work. Priorities.
  13. Snot rocketing a double parked minibus taxi that forces you to ride in the oncoming traffic lane.... so satisfying.
  14. I found that living in Stellenbosch makes it somewhat cheaper to take part in this. So there is that.
  15. Cape Town Convention Thenter
  16. I'm not so sure, the name does not make the event. That said it would be interesting to see the amount of riders doing the Val-de-vie cycle tour VS previous years of Die Burger.
  17. 2017 dented it real good.
  18. LOL, I jinxed it. It was this massive rusty old nail, shred about a 2cm rip on the outside, when I took it off at home the nail was still stuck inside, right through the rim tape Strange thing is, I have never had a puncture that led to a total deflation on this bike before except in 2016.... after STBB... when I was riding to my parents farm 3km away. Every other time I rode home - no issues. Guess what, today I was going to ride there again for my daughters birthday party. So I think by not cycling home after STBB I'm bound to have a tyre failure. But the old Chaoyang ran its course, Maxxis Forekaster going on tomorrow. Excellent ride today, I held back the pace after my sickness this past week and still enjoyed it very much.
  19. You're right, I am confusing it with 2016... Looks the same 2017. Removing all the nonsense resizing parameters from the URL gives us a nice big and clear image.
  20. That's cheap, I paid R390 and only got 60km... However it does come with 1800m of climbing and from previous years I do recall that it tries to break you. So good value at R6.5 per kilo - I guess
  21. Yeah I also liked it when you could do it on the day. I stay in Stellenbosch and ride to the venue (15km). My dad stays on Vlottenburg but now has to drive all the way to Somerset Mall to get his number.
  22. 10k ?! Heavens no, my bike cost me R9k. New drivetrain will be about R2k and lasts me at least 7,500km.
  23. Dang!! OK, guess they seriously charged PPA with a day permit for each 66km rider.
