  1. just make sure they are very loose so that when you get a fright etc you just need a little twist and its out. Then when you get more confident you can adjust them tighter.
  2. still waiting for seeding mail Thats weird we got water bottles at 1st with cell phone bag, buffs at seconds Socks and cellphone bags at 3rd
  3. only prob with them is now that the rand price has weakened they upped the prices on all their items in stock which they already payed for... Went in march saw nice shoes for 2.something then went back three weeks ago same shoe 3.5 k. I saw solomons also had a few north wave shoes

Can be done on a MTB. But speaking from exp, I did the 94.7 last year on a MTB. Its rough. Rather consider borrowing a road bike or buying a second had one or even new. You can get very decent axis bikes for 2k. Only did will be an avg speed from 26-33 depending on ur fitness ofc
  6. was my first vg and I must admit I hated it. Was in batch c with the fuji bike and the ski kit. came down in the first 4 km, when I wasn't paying attention and hit a rock over one of those bumps. Nothing to serious, but those rock in the ascents and descents killed me I rather walk satellite down. I was gonna do the chicken run, but when i saw the route you had to walk I turned around and another rider told me you only live once, I decided to try the bridge at least I made it. Then I ran out of drinks, rode without water for about 10 km, got to a water point to be served luke warm water and watered down powerade. Then as I got to 62 km i started pushing cause they said 66 km, only when I reached 65 it said 5 to go. Ran out of water again. I was dead after the race, took 2 botlles of 32gi , recovery shake and a shower to get me feeling better again. Not even the jock touched me half as much as this race finishing time of 5:15 with a ride time of 4:51. That is 24 minutes of walking!!! Im afraid i might have lost my passion for mtbing, I have done all 3 marathons now, but I am thinking of scaling down to the 40 for the next one. whats the point if you dont enjoy it
  7. Dont worry about me I am taking it easy. Im extermely fit but my technical skillz suck so I will be taking it easy. My road legs usually shine on the longclimbs ands straights but it doesn't look like there is gonna be any of that in this race. Thanks for everyone in the thread warning us, might have gone in unprepared if it wasn't for this thread
  8. Ye I dont know its not like my cullinan race was quick or anything think it was 3:45 which I thought was really slow, I expected to be dropped 2 batches lower or something
  9. Sigh started in I the first one and H at cullinan this time in C. How the hell did that happen. Im still a newbie int he mtb scene, hand me a beer as you pass the green 29er, its gonna be a long ride

  12. nice and quite route, but yes the wind was terrible, atleast not as bad as last weekend. Yes the start was a bit organised,s tarted 6 mins late and AL & Bl started together. Luckely the cat 3 climb split the groups up nice and early. Jeez I just cant keep up with the leaders in the a bunch on these fast and flat straights/downhills, and flats need some serious speed work. Still managed a 2:51 after I lost the group at 50 km.
  13. want to do this race so badly but,I am doing the van gaalens marathon on sat so I decided to skip it. On my todo list for next yer though
  14. So similar to what we had. Show that means we finished about 20 minutes behind the leaders, and probably the 3rd a bunch sigh. These legs need more training to keep up. I was riding the red and black ghost with the evad rims. Wearing a red jacket. I strugled the first 50 km, was laggin behind the guys the entire race. Only managed to put in some leading time in the last 30 km. I think I lost them when that guy with the red shoes attacked, I just sprinted and stuck on his wheel. When I looked behind me saw only one of the VB guys followed and it was just the 3 of us, with the guy constantly attacking and then slowing down, was so irritating
  15. wind was terrible. A group split within 1st 10 km. Then 3 of kinda stuck together till 5 km from the end, were the guy with red cleats caused a brake. Was a hectic race. Finish time around 3:25. Anybody know when results will be released? and what was the winning time of the a group?
  16. Bought my wife the Juliet Ride lite 94 and she loves it. Paid 11 but it has 105 on. Cant go wrong with that inho. But whetever you get make sure there is a carbon fork(to absorb the rattle) and atleast tiagra. Then ur good to go

Myself and a couple on a tandem almost got charged by a cow there in the township. I think the lady's screamed scared it off though, cause it lifted itself as it was ready to charge and I heared the scream and it backed off

No Incidents? Sho Was my first race int he a group, I kept on falling behind in the start playing catchup every 5 minutes, eventually I let the group go. caught up with 5 or 6 other riders we shared the pace. In the township we almost got charged by a massive cow. lol And about 10 km before the finish the b group caught up with us and the a massive accident happened. probably 10-30 people involved, saw bikes flying higher than cars.Unfortunatly I was behind so I lost the group because of the accident. Anybody know what happened? and are all the people involved ok? In the end finished with a 3:06 with an avg speed of 37.01 km/h. I think about 13 minutes behind the winners, what speed did you guys avg. Need some more practise before I can keep up with you guys. But I recoon its not to bad as I only started cycling june last year.
  19. I trained for the jock a while ago found 4 big climbs in the area Northcliff steep but only 5 km- look for the segment stairway to heaven Krugersdorp mountain- starting from the 4 way stop at hendrik potgieter. Quite steep but iif you robertbroom the van ribeeck it ends up being a 9km climb The previous one just reverse- Coming from the sterfonteincaves, dont turn left onto the n14 continue straight, segment is called sterkfontein pain cave Hekpport climb imho the toughest of them all- ssegment is called hekpoort proper Il link my strava ride which includes all these and a short ride with my wife in the cradle, unfortunatly my phone died at the last bit of the ride. http://www.strava.com/activities/65305804 Hope that helps, helped me a lot in the jock

    a = 7:20 b = 7:25 c=:7:30 GUes the rest follows the 5 minute pattern
  21. eish you guys are making me worry Im a roady that does the odd mtb here and there Did the first two trailseeker marathons. 1st one was easy did around 3 hour 2nd was ok, just hectic climbs did 3:45 I am really scared of this one now, esp since its the 70 the sat and then the race for victory the sunday. Did not expect it to be so tough...
  22. MapMyRide has the same option
  23. can i Chuck another one in the mix mapmyride I found endomondo is cool but mapmyride and strava offers stuff on the free versions that endomondo doesnt't. Plus if you are on DISCOVERY medical aid and u use mapmyride, you get vitality points for you workouts. I like there map planning tool. but the segments is not as competitive as strava. So I use both . Plus mapmyride/living vitality has challenges, if you do well you actually win prizes etc.
  24. I just hope the routes aren't like the previous one Were the 40km rider's basically forced the 10 and 20 km rider's to stop so they can pass. But then the very same 40 km rider's walking up the hills dont keep left and block the 70km rider's. people were shouting and screaming almost saw 2 fights take place, must be honest that wasn't fun at all. We go riding for the fun, but if every race is going to be like this, il rather stick to road races, aleast the people aren't so violant.
  25. thanks, have already done it, was the second person on the board
