  1. Rapide.co.za sells big blue rolls different widths for cheap, work great for mtb, 1 layer is enough, the yellow stans rim tape is probably the best overall, specialy if you have very tight road tubeless tyres, 2 layer and its fit and forget, I find the tight road tyres damages other rim tape like the blue rapide tape when the tyre has to be mounted, where the stans yellow tape is stronger, , always clean a rim with spirits before aplying tape and when you pull old tape of use a hair dryer, doesn't leave as much glue on your rims My 2c
  2. Flip sealed just dont work in tubes, the thorn or piece of glass sit in the whole and moves all the time and the hole dont seal. You have better luck with those rim strips between the tyre and tube, would be cheaper as well.
  3. rode the route from caldis to oudtshoorn yesterday, bit loose here and there but the rest is not bad at all, breeze with a mountain bike but gravel bikes will have a bit off a tough day. Weather is perfect if it holds
  4. Looks great thanks for the input from all, Will have basically the same setup, have 2 fox 100m fork which i will use, My current carbon hardtail only have space in the rear for 2.25 tyres and feel bit beat up lately, bit more rubber will be great and the tigre frame is a no brainer and relative cheap compared to replacement carbon frames
  5. thanks!!
  6. quick question to al the rapide riders, I am currently riding xc carbon hardtail which is on its last leg, been looking at the tigre frames, not racing anymore and not doing any events more then 100km. Just riding and having fun, xco's and stuff. Been enjoing the lightness of the carbon, will the extra 2kg on the steel frames be very much noticeable?
  7. haha...you can buy a rapide tigre frame and deore gears for the price of premium groupset
  8. aaah no more gravel bikes pissing stans everywhere..😅
  9. same here...my xo1 12 speed group sets almost gone, Shimano deore looks cheap and bulletproof...😅
  10. Yep those race kings are fast and last forever, on 30id rims they have nice grip on the front, second choice will be spez renegade control 2.25 T5 front and back and about R900 each
  11. Always buy one size smaller frame, just get a longer stem, you never know when you have to pull a supertuck for the win and find out your ass doesnt fit between the toptube and the saddle...😅
  12. Hi, i had the same problem a couple of years ago with my reacto, the only solution was replacing rear brake, I just cant remeber the which brake had clearance and you have to get it from bike24, ended up buying a powertap wheel, do some googling, sorry thats all I got
  13. My front tyre also got around 4500km, still some life left, rear got a sidewall cut after 200km, did not replace as they are too tight to fix alongside the road, a tube will never go in
  14. On my way to bonniedale about 5km before there was a medical stop point. We stopped there , I needed something for the headache, they took a bit too long and I decided to head on and get something at bonniedale as my headache was only a problem on the downhills. Grabbed my bike and went downhill, after about 50m I looked down at my garmin only to realize its not my bike...hahaha, had to go back, we had quite a laugh about it
  15. Yup, we didn't finish, stopped at bonniedale, it was just too hot to continue, it was 30 in the starting pen, max 48 in the kloof, no wind. People were laying next to the road not able to continue, lots pulled out at waterpoint 1 and 2 and bonniedale was about 60, congrats to the finishers, don't know how you did it
  16. Is spectators allowed at the waterpoint like pre covid. If your not a pro you can receive bottles anyware you like, and yes if there is spectators allowed you can get bottles from them at the points. If they are not allowed they can just hand it to you before the waterpoint in the road.
  17. yep my mate just sent me a photo, its 46degrees in the sun at the moment on his bike in oudtshoorn, my other mate just keep telling me we probably going to die on Saturday.....🤣LOL
  18. What worked for me and everybody is different, 32gi endure works well for zone1 and 2, kick start by taking in at least 30g of carbs in the first 20min to kick start the metabolism and then just sip on it while riding, after 6 monts you will be riding 4 hours with just 1 bottle and water and burning fat all the way.
  19. this years Java was proper fun , nice and rugged...lots and lots of singletrack. Will be back next year.
  20. yep its off like a prom dress...rode the poort last weekend and its in great shape, such a pity
