  1. The one thing that concerns me is that usually hand-built wheelsets need a re-truing / re-tension after the first few rides. Do you have someone nearby who will deal with this?
  2. How are the cyclists being screwed? I don's see a gun to anyone's head at the number collection points. And the Argus has no prize money for the Elites? Raaaaait...
  3. Oh so that's how you're supposed to ride down there... Great riding and cool vid! Was however looking forward to seeing a hardtail take on the massive rock drops high up on the double black

  6. They may as well call it Hobbiton or Barbie Princess Happy Funtime. I'm not riding it.
  7. I don't know what that Day 4 NOrth Shore trail is, but I'll be doing filming duty there. No way in hell I'm riding that!
  8. Why is the vocalist so worried about the goddamn door being closed?

  12. I'm reverting to clipless pedals and looking at the Shimano AM45's to pair with the M530 trail pedals. My 5.10's are a Euro 46. Should the Shimano's be a similar sizing? 46 seems to be the largest available.
  13. How buggered are your components? What are they? Would you not get more bang for your buck by investing in a new frame and shock set and then rebuilding the bike and with the spare change upgrading / adding some parts? I know someone who is selling a medium Reign X frame with RP23 with some extras for R7k
  14. I'm also considering returning to clipless. Shimano AM or Minnaar's?
  15. The big question is: Is this thread Enduro?
  16. Should check if anyone from Wilgenhof was in that area last night...

  19. And for this I commend, and sympathise with, you.
  20. To wit:
  21. I am starting to strongly suspect that the simple solution to Tokai is to leave it as a jeep track only ride because this attempt to work with Sanparks in the hope of getting proper trail (i.e. a reason for me to pay R45 at the gate so that they can fund all their other projects) is folly. Leave it as jeeptrack. Leave table mountain as jeep track. Let the trail money go to private owners who see the return on investment (which for them is literally F ALL since they just grant permission - all funding is sourced privately). There's a very good reason politicians aren't in the private sector (because competition scares them and they want power for nothing) and there's an even better reason for politicians loving infinite amounts of red tape (because otherwise they'd be out of a job). Sanparks has every incentive to just drag this out as long as they like. Until gate takings go away, which they may never since some people seem more than happy with the state of affairs as they are. Enjoy. Please understand, I'm not dissing the Deon's and Rob's who work their asses off to get through to government. I just personally think they're suckers for punishment.
  22. This statement is exactly why we are moving more and more to a centralised system where individual interests are chucked out the window. Does any single person on this forum think that we, as mountain bikers have any interest in reckless building and cutting of trails at the cost of natural habitat? There's a very good reason every one of us rides on mountains and not roads. Don't discredit people's ability to self-police and naturally do what is best for everyone, since what is good for my enjoyment will in all likelihood be good for yours and if some douche wants to destroy it why can't we deal with that then. I have a serious problem with preventative laws as they often just end up being thinly veiled products of a nanny mentality.
  23. I have read through this entire thread and follow it throughout. One thing that sticks in my head is a question: Is Tokai perhaps just not doomed from a mtb'ing persepctive. Tokai to me appears to suffer from the same statist bull that the rest of the country is slowly creeping towards - the idea that big centralised bodies are best suited to curate over our assets. And this will be SANPARKS' downfall. They make most of their money at Tokai from MTB'ing, yet they make it hardest for us to actually enjoy our time there. As if we're f***ing beholden to them! F*** it man. I don't know why anybody even bothers riding there. How long will Tokai be viable for all the horsey and fauna people when the big moneyspinner takes his ball and goes to play elsewhere (because there are plenty of trails pooping up at spots where people actually see the value in us)? What then? No more filled carparks. More muggings, more brake-ins. The scum will move in. It's seriously starting to reach a point where I cannot fathom why anyone on this forum is willing to go through the waste of time that is working with government agencies. Seriously, if they don't "want" us there then why do we keep going back for more abuse? Sorry, I know it's a rant that isn't contributing at all, and it's incoherent, but I just cannot actually fathom why anyone gives two craps when the people in control will go out of their way to make it impossible and since they have all the leverage they think we will just take it.
