  1. So in the past few weeks I've been looking around to buy a new bike or frame. What is wrong with people, that they omit such basics as the size of the frame. or its year or even a picture. Damn People, cant you provide the basics, or dont you really want to sell? Matt, cant you put a sticky note in the Classifieds? Thanks
  2. Well, setting the maximum price is Price fixing, because, then everyone will agree to a price and make profit off it. Simple really. Recommended price is what the distributor recomendeds, and sells it to the retailer at various pricing depending on volume, etc etc. which the retailer can pass onto you, or keep his own. EG: Wheelset A costs R5000. Importer sells it to bike shop A at R500 less 30%, shop B is bigger so he gets it at less 45%. The RRP is in place, but the margin to retailer differs. You cannot enforce a price, min or max. It does benefit end user, so prevent bunches setting a price on a product.
  3. Competition Commission Requirement IF they under price, its their choice. Ulitmatley it protects you. I know its hard to sometimes see it this way, but it is.
  4. Hows about an Answer from one of the organizers? We know there are a few of you on thehub. Share...
  5. Ya but dangle, not everyone has the most bling 9r out. Makes most bikes look like a dunlop special, so I wouldnt ride my Zaskar with you 'cos of that. But seriously, you're really right there. Finding a good team mate ain't easy.
  6. Yeah, but at least, or you should hope, one novice can identify when his team mate is in trouble. For one, i know, my ride partner and I always remind each other to drink, eat, etc, and we can tell where each of us are in a bit of trouble. You dont have to admit these things when you're good team mates, you just know these things. So two novices should sort themselves out, I dunno, eat each other if things get heavy lol
  7. Yeah, I dont know. I'd have loved to do Sabie Full Solo. Settled on Lite Solo. I guess its a safety (medical mostly) on a longer stage race? And admittedly, from time to time it does get a bit boring. On the plus side, you can put the hammer down when you want and tap off equally. Give me Sabie Full Solo, i'd probably take it, but then 4 hours on a bike solo does get a bit tedious. They should allow it to sufficiently "qualified" individuals who've done distance stage races before, you dont want a novice on his own somewhere in the forest, do you?
  8. Pics to follow this afternoon, soon as my baby is collected. Eish gotta hang around the office until 4pm. Tick tock. tick tock.
  9. Big Props to Suppliers and Bike Shop. Really pulled out all the stops for me. Was sweating a bit over the frame.
  10. Havent forgotten I will be there one day soon. Today, I collect my New Frame and Bike, gotta back for Sabie Soon
  11. I pretty much went the Upgrade over time route. I learnt a few valuabel lessons. I used a Giant Alias as a Base Bike, first thing I did was change the Rims to Mavic Cross Trails, then did the fork, and also did the crank over time. Then i got the need to change the frame, for something stiffer, and ended up on a Zaskar Pro Frame. On the new frame i did the FD and RD as well as an XT Crank (all XT). Saddles, bars and stems over time too. This was over an 20 Month odd duration. Now when i took delivery of the Alias it was around 8k Pay in on my trade in. A new Zaskar Pro would have been 20k at the time. With all the upgrades to the Alias, and eventually the Zaskar Build I estimate (8k for Alias + 4.5k for Mavic, + 4.5K for Fox fork + 2k for cranks, and shifters etc + 5.5 k for Zaskar Frame + 3k for XT Cranks and Delrailluers + say 2k for other bits and bits and bobs = around 29k for the what is now a fully fleged GT Zaskar Pro (spec almost identical, slightly inferior fork) So what i in essence did was finance the bike over a 20 month period, paid a 9K premium for the easier cash flow, which is like 45% interst on financing the bike. Here is where it gets more sickening- I was on the O-bike website, and i see a new Zaskar out the box is 14k now. So this begs the question: Would I do this again? Answer is logically NO. But this was a Fun project, and If you've got disposable cash, then do it the build bit by bit way. Lots of fun actually.
  12. Dont know anything about either bike. But the Scott is probabaly lighter. I dunno. Thats my useless post for the day
  13. Sounds like Northcliff? Dunno to be fair though.
  14. hehe, leaving the GT cow pushing bike in the Garage
  15. Spruit actually commands a certain respect. The minute you're over confident you'll see your a$$. Still sore from today's wipeout.
  16. Mavics should be fine for conversion
  17. Pleasure guys, I'm sure my pay-in last week got some shoes, and things
  18. I Actually had this debate with my LBS, when I went plastic with the road bike. I have the Thule Express, which is a hang on system. The two mount points, (bars) are wound 30cm apart. So what this does, is it distributes the load evenly across the top tube, not focussing the energy in 1 point, like some of the cheaper carriers do. Also the thule uses a rubber mount system elastically, so there is no chance of ctushing the tube when screwing it closed. Of course a rear mount is always suseptible to morons rear ending your bike. Thule express is cheap and fast.
  19. I sent you guys an email Please respond if you guys have any spots left!
  20. A Proper Bike Set was the best money I've spent on the bike in ages. Cyclefit are brilliant. That said, it was simply tweaking, as opposed to major changes, but the small things add up
