  1. Depends on your circumstances. I leave home at 6am and get to work at 8am and can normally leave at 16h30 to get home at 18h30. My girls are both away at university so I have no homework or after school commitments. My wife leaves home and gets home at the same time as I do so no conflict there. I would hate the thought of a two and half to three hour ride home after work. I know some people that commute 40kms each way. But they are still very competitive and need the mileage.
  2. For me all commute days are 3hrs. Day 1 - legs are happy Day 2 - legs are raising their eyebrows in question at my sanity Day 3 - Legs are happy (especially on the homeward leg)
  3. I assume that the units get sealed after the wires are attached. But I will know for sure when they arrive

  5. I can vouch for it as well. My bike commuting made up most of my J2C training. I calculated that I have driven my car 12 000kms less and ridden my bike 6 000kms more so far this year because I started commuting by bike.
  6. I am not in the same class as the Dalai Lama but I try to be cool, calm, collected and ultra observant. I also contact companies when their drivers have gone out of their way to give me space on the road. Yes. I am fine. I pavement hopped to avoid truck and put a flat spot on my rear tyre to avoid bakkie.
  7. Yes. The driver would not stop to continue the conversation and vehicle unfortunately had no identification decals. There was a clipboard on the dashboard so I assume it is a company vehicle.
  8. This morning's commute was not a good one. I nearly got taken out by a truck and later a bakkie cut me off so he could talk to a woman walking on the pavement. I memorised the licence plates and would like to talk to their bosses. If anyone can help me trace the owners of these vehicles please send me a PM and I will give you the licence numbers. Thanks
  9. I did one that went up both sides of Northcliff, Club Terrace (near Hyprama), William Nicol (near Flora Clinic), Christaan de Wet ( to Ontdekkers), Doreen, and Krugersdorp Hill. ( Seven climbs). It was a few years ago so I have no gps track of it.
  10. Magicshine system.
  11. I contacted RS this morning and then sent them the photo of the connector. I will see if they reply.
  12. The connection on my battery pack needs to be repaired as the wires are now exposed and making contact. It seems to be a sealed unit. Does anyone know where I can take it to be fixed? I live in Honeydew and work in Jet Park
  13. My wife's roadie friends used to do a 5 hills training ride on road bikes. 1.Senior, Cliffview and Rockcliff - Northcliff then 2. Golf Club Terrace - Roodepoort 3. William Nicol - Roodepoort 4. Christaan de Wet - Roodepoort 5. Doreen - Roodepoort I went along a few times. It was a very hard day for me
  14. I saw this photo on the WSSC facebook page. Looks like Grant in serious race mode
  15. We had fun again. Warm weather, payday and the CBD was packed. I felt like I was doing the victory lap on the Champs Elysses as there were so many people clapping and cheering us I never felt anything but good vibes from the passerbys. A bigger crowd than last month so keeping us all together was difficult. Thanks to Skidd and the other shepherds for getting the whole flock back intact.
  16. I will have to vote when I get home. My nanny state web marshall blocks facebook access.
  17. Yesterday I was riding the 5kms from my office in Jet Park to Rhodesfield station. I saw a commuter running very fast but very comfortably. I slowed down and spoke to him about his commute. He runs between Jet Park and Thembisa everyday of the week. I am not sure of the exact distances but he seem to think each leg was 30kms. That is a weekly running regime of 300 kms. He had no waterbottle so it was a dry run. His next race is City to City (50km ultra). I rode the rest of my commute in absolute awe.
  18. They normally have a big screen for the rugby
  19. I have always done both days. I don't think that the big climb on the 106km features this year.
  20. Both days , yes SS, no. I remember passing Tumbleweed a few years ago on his SS. He was a broken man.
  21. I have to give it a go this year. The boss, she said so
  22. I have three bikes and one car with conti tyres. All deliberate decisions.
  23. I did this race on X-king front and race king back. Also had new ZTR rims. The route was a good mixture of loose sand, rocks, tar, water and hard pack. I did not notice my tyres at all so I guess this means they worked well. I did not ride through any of the mud so cannot comment on that aspect.
  24. I saw it on a Nike T-shirt about 15 years ago and it still amuses me.
