  1. Four of us are meeting on Hendrick Potgieter in front of Volvo/Alfa dealerships at 7am on MTBs. Going to ride to Teak Place for a lap on Blue route , then ride back. Look for RIDE mag shirts and Santa Cruz Superlites. Craig
  2. That's the climber I have to try and keep up with during Jhb2C.
  3. I have an over-inflated ego.
  4. You could be my twin My measurements were:- 1,74cm 81kgs Not a lot of fat Climbed like a lung shot buffalo. After losing 5kgs and riding 17 hours a week, I am able to climb with my friends whose climbing abilities I have always envied. I ride a 53/39 with 11 -25 cluster.
  5. Sidewall of my front one split along the seam. Big endo. They seem too lightweight to be robust enough for Gauteng conditions
  6. I have heard the other side of the story.
  7. The Cape SSers are hi-jacking the African Champs cyclosport class on 12 Feb to run a " SS championship" The Gauteng SSers have Grant's race on 2 April at Rietvlei.
  8. Yes. New bike. No tools. At work. Need to ride home tonight.
  9. Cyclelab Boksburg is not my LBS but is now the closest bikeshop to my work. My GT Peace SS's chain was too loose so I called CL manager and asked if they could tighten it while I waited as I needed to ride home tonight. I took the bike in at luchtime. The mechanic adjusted the BB and the chain tension within 10 minutes and refused payment
  10. "Hi-jack on" Saw one in my LBS yesterday. Luckily for the owner it was a large frame. The bike is stunning in the "flesh". Hi-jack off"
  11. I experienced my ankles and hairy calves been strapped with elastoplast at one Epic . I would only consider going hairless if I did another long stage race as the chances of more elastoplast strapping is high.
  12. Thanks. I know that centre. When I cycle past there on Saturday mornings all you can smell is the fresh bread in the Spar bakery.
  13. What is the address of this shop? My friend asked me the other day and I could not help him.

    Saddle

My wife has option 2 saddle on her bike and finds it comfortable. But there are 5 other saddles in the garage that she does not like. There is no such thing as one "size" fits all. Follow the "Try before you buy" advice.
  15. I know where you live
  16. You are lucky. I can't get close to my wife's back wheel. Most rides I can't even see her back wheel.
  17. I had a similar response from Raeleen My application was stalled in the pipeline so I called Raeleen yesterday. This morning my membership card was ready for download on CSA website
  18. I assume your's is the empty beer glass and it made you brave. If my wife had muscles in her forearms like that, I would get written permission before posting a picture of her.
  19. Rockhoppers MTB club - not sure whether they have rides but they are the host club at Phambili - Muldersdrift Johannesburg MTB club www.jmbc.org.za - has organised rides every Sunday Eagle Canyon Cycles 011 795 4022 ( Near Northgate)- organises Sunday am rides
  20. I have been commuting by bike for a few weeks now and my observations are that generally most motorists give me space and consideration. I , in turn, try to be considerate and visible. The occasional guy in a SUV with an attitude, young women sending SMSs while driving, learner drivers and PUTCO bus drivers are the ones that I try to spot and give a wide berth. Taxi drivers have been outstanding so far. One pulled up next to me at robot and said that I should give him my bike. When I said it would have to be a swop for his taxi he laughed and drove off. Only aggro was when 4 low riding louts in a stuffed up audi shouted that I must get the F#@k off their road. They did not stop to continue their conversation
  21. The ascent is 365m each way - there are 4 hills and some drags. I tried the following ratios 32 -14 - okay on the flats but I had to stop on two of the hills 32 - 16 - hills start to hurt near the top but flats are a bit slow ( current ratio) 32 -18 - hills are fine but flats are frustratingly slow
  22. I started doing 25kms each way on a single speed with about 10 kms of climbing. I commute 4 days a week. After the 3rd day I was shattered but I am used it now and am fine at work. If I take the car I am frustrated by the traffic and in a bad mood by the time I get to work
  23. I have used Time Freight a few times with no problems. Cost was about R420 for a complete bike to Cape Town. Collected Wednesday from my house and delivered to my guesthouse on Friday. My post office wanted to charge R800 as the bike box dimensions exceed their system parameters
  24. I bought some from a motorbike shop in the Builders Warehouse centre on Hendrick Potgieter
