  1. From the reading that I have done I have the following routine:- 1. Hill between 1km to 1,5km 2. Gradient 5%-7% 3. Try to maintain about 80 rpm but I do some repeats in a heavier gear for variety. I also mix up the effort so it is not all steady tempo 4. When I am not fit I do 5 repeats and build up to 10 5. You rest on the way down 6. HRM is optional. You know when you are working hard.
  2. I saw you as we were driving out of Teak Place. We thought that it was an Epic/Jhb2C training group. We have entered Jhb2C and so may join you on one of your LSD rides.
  3. Town is now called Matlosana. We did a ride of about 30 kms around town starting at 6h30 yesterday on our SS's. There are very few uphills. We saw very few people except for the church goers. Both main roads have proper cycle paths.
  4. I am heading to Klerksdorp this am to visit mom in law. Hopefully yr drunk friend is sleeping when i ride tomorrow
  5. I am not sure that I have weird enough clothes to participate in a SS championship. The race gear at the World SS champs in NZ set very high standards.
  6. It is a 26" Peace. I bought it 2nd hand on Saturday. I was in my LBS looking at a new Peace when Tony mentioned that a customer wanted to sell this one for a little more than a stock standard new one. My credit card was out faster than Dangle does laps at a 24 hour.
  7. When our speed is slightly above the bare minimum required to keep us upright, we will take up your offer.
  8. The Boss's - Giant XTC - going to be resprayed Mine - GT Peace Both are been used as commuters
  9. Which ones? I don't agree with the aims/methods of CSA so want to support non CSA races.
  10. No. She wanted a Santa Cruz Blur LT with which she has not bonded well.It is a fantastic free ride bike and handles the descents with ease but does not climb well ( her strength and enjoyment) So we have been looking another SL for awhile as I think my SL is nimble and surefooted. PS: We have an anthem 1 frame and a Santa Cruz Blur LT frameset for sale.
  11. It is a bit like mating with a black widow spider. Done with caution and not often.
  12. We do
  13. @ Hairy - My better half is the problem . I have to try and stop her from buying new bling stuff. She currently has 6 bikes and a mtb frame and she is looking at buying a Santa Cruz SL frame today. Although she has agreed that the frame and one mtb must be sold. Agree on the simplistic approach and tubeless is a given. After all I also ride a road bike and I manage that without suspension.
  14. @slowpoke - I am having a light weight one made out of denim by a tailor in Northcliff. Cost is about R700. But thanks for the offer. They don't want the other commuters or the seats to be cut or marked by the bike.If it is in a bag there is less chance of this happening. So far there is no stipulation that bike must be a foldable one.
  15. Reply from Gautrain regarding bikes on train. As long as it is in a bag then no problem Dear Mr. Brown Thank you for taking the time to put your experience in writing. We do appreciate hearing from our customers, as your comments are vital for us to continue improving our service. We recognize that travellers want dependable and convenient service. You are allowed to bring your bicycle if it is in a carry bag only. Otherwise if it is not then you would have to leave it behind. We continue to be committed to providing you and all of our customers with the highest standards of service, and look forward to serving you in the near future. Sincerely Bombela Operating Company CONFIDENTIALITY CAUTION If you have received this communication in error, please note that it is intended for the addressee only, is privileged and confidential, and dissemination or copying is prohibited.
  16. I am going to build a SS commuter mtb bike (26er). I am trying to decide between a carbon rigid or a 80mm travel fork. As I will have to carry the bike onto Gautrain and the commute is mostly on pavements I thought the weight saving of a rigid fork would be a good idea. Will this limit me if I decide to take bike out on trails over weekends? My 1st 2years of mtbing were on a steel rigid fork and maybe my memory has blocked out the bad bits.
  17. I have drooled over the Lynskey Pro 29er with the twisted tubing. My friend has one. 2011 Frame is R17k from CRC.
  18. @ Nathrix - no, road bikes but a few of them were on mountain bikes. Maybe they are not used to roadies acknowledging their presense so they were stunned into silence
  19. @ Coenie - No problem. They were not wearing the black and white kit of Northcliff Cycles
  20. We did, they ignored us.
  21. This morning I did hill repeats on Hill St. On the way down after one repeat, I had to ride in the gutter as a group of riders coming up were spread over both lanes. They had a following vehicle so I assume they are part of a bikeshop ride. It was not a Cyclelab vehicle as it was a small, gray bakkie.
  22. Which pepper spray is recommended?
  23. I asked the organisers for information re which brands were going to have bikes there and whether they would have their 29ers. From the reply it sounded as if the various brands were battling to source stock so I did not attend
  24. We are planning a "try the KZN MTB bike parks" trip. After Karkloof we are planning to find a B&B in Westville. Then we will try out Giba and Holla Trails.
