  1. You realise she was in front of you on the climbs as she was on the orange bike ... orange has some red in it, red bikes are faster :P

Nice re-edit....what do you do your editing in please?

Red bikes are faster yes!  But I had to "let" her beat me on some strategic sections for the video! ;)

When we went up a really long steep climb, she left me for dead and I was going full gas, must be the 60kg weight difference between us

    Using Adobe Premiere Pro

  2.

Ok... my apologies guys, I was wrong.

I got defensive and I can now see  from the perspective of a brand like Cannondale, they would not be promoting the us of alcohol in their videos.

Before you judge too harshly, my side...

I had no budget for this video and no one asked me to make it.

It was a very spur of the moment thing, we were already on the way to the farm for the weekend when I got news that we can take the bikes along.  We had to stop back home to pack helmets and whatever other cycling gear I could dig out quickly.

My partner is not a cyclist at all and I could not get any shots of her bombing down anything, which left me to try and film myself doing some faster stuff.  Not easy filming yourself on a bike... with a drone that has no tracking capabilities or a "co-pilot" that has never flown a drone.

(She enjoyed the e-bike tremendously and this might be a fantastic way to get her into cycling... and get me back into cycling  )

The aim wasnt to promote a lifestyle, just thought I would get some cool shots whilst having a jol.

Unfortunately the footage and terrain is what I have and where we were, cant change that but hopefully the next one will be better...

    How is this then?

    No click-bait this time!

  3.  Why all the lycra. Just doesn't look right to me.

My partner is not a cyclist at all, last time she was on a bike was in high school, the bike shop was kind enough to give her a cycling top.

    I was wearing a black Cannondale T-Shirt...

Not sure why anyone would hung up by what people wear, there is no dress code for owning a bike.

Brace yourself, I was on the e-bike in beach road with my plakkies and boardshorts on sunday afternoon...

  4. My biggest issue is promoting the consumption of alcohol mid ride. Highly unprofessional. e-bike or no e-bike, drinking and riding is irresponsible. Maybe that is why the camera is spinning around them 90% of the time?

Cheeky to use Corona. I see the comedic side of it but at the same time I feel it is a little insensitive. Is the video sponsored by Corona?

This is personal preference but this video is supposed to sell a lifestyle. Trail riding and having fun. Why all the lycra. Just doesn't look right to me. Again, this is personal preference.

Lastly, the video production. What frame rate is that? Looks like 30fps. At 24/25fps you will get that smooth cinematic feel. Also the colour grading makes it look like they are riding in a wasteland. It severely lacks more closeup footage.

The setting for the video could have been a forest or similar. More eye candy and sells the ride better. Right now it looks like you are slogging along in dry, dusty, and hot environments.

Again, personal feelings on the video. Except for the alcohol part.

    Seriously?  Get a life man.

We had the drinks after the ride, but I did not see that as an ending shot for the video and used it elsewhere.

The video is sponsored by myself, made by myself on my own time and my own expenses.

The video is not "supposed to do sell a lifestyle", we had fun with the bikes and captured some footage.

We were on the farm in the Karoo, the terrain is what it is.

  5. Yeah not a very good video.

My biggest disappointment though is that the thumbnail promises far more eye candy than the video delivers.

Ok, so you come does it!  I am always open to feedback, but "it not very good" doesnt tell me anything at all.

Yea, that is called click-bait!

  6. All the riding done was gravel grinding in that vid.

I have seen the Neo on one of our rides out to Melkbos ........ A couple of us were on SS MTB's and the person on the Neo had some very heavy breathing going on for the one and only small climb

If I had a budget from Cannondale or the likes to produce a video, you might have seen some mixed and different terrain.  Chucked the e-bikes on the bakkie and headed for the farm.  It is what it is.

If you want a workout on an e-bike, you can still get one.

I was totally amazed how easy it was to go off the gravel road, into the velt and to get ontop of the koppies without much effort.

  7. A big HELL YES from me!

They are insane, full of power and the ones I tested, built for any terrain you can throw at it!

What is even better?  I havent been on a bike in over 5 years and had a moerse jol without breaking a sweat!

If you want to race with the racing snakes, use your "normal" bike.
If you want to have a jol, pop to the shops quickly, do your favorite singletrack 3 or 4 times over.... jump on an E-bike!!!   :w00t:  :w00t:

  8. Jpg works fine.

RAW format allows a lot more editing options, but the GoPro RAW format only works on the very latest subscription Lightroom software .... I am perfectly happy with my paid Lightroom. If I wanted to get the new lightroom I would also have to upgrade Windows .... this can become an expensive exercise ....

PS I love using the time lapse photo function ...

EDIT ... Really hope somebody has a hack to use the RAW photos ....

    Download Adobe DNG Converter

Convert GoPro Raw files to DNG, Import to LightRoom .... BOOM!

Been doing it since the 8.

  9. If the 4k 30fps gets added to the Mini 2, does that mean the 2.7k gets bumped up to 60fps? I haven't checked specs.

60fps in 2.7k would be exactly the same as 4k 60fps for all youtube social media consumers watching on their mobile devices.

The more you fly the smoother your footage will become ????

I use the Mini for much more and much more than I anticipated originally

  10. The mini 2 is a really good improvement on the previous version, but I still went air 2 because of the high winds here and because 4K 60 is preferable at times to 4K 30. Sensors are a bonus.

I've been using the Mini for estate photography and it is much less noticeable than the Pro, smaller and a lot quieter.

Getting it done without being harrassed by neighborhood wannabe security guards and nosy neighbors much favours the mini.

Raw photo would make my editing job much much easier and this is one thing I have really missed.

Would be interested to compare noise levles between the Air 2 and Mini 2.

But 4k 30 is enough for me for video... for now!

  11. Mini 2 just released with a number of reviews already on YT.

Lekker upgrades, but still no obstacle avoidance :-(

Raw photo and 4k video is more than enough for me to upgrade to the 2!

Just wonder if someone cant hack the mini to give us 4k and raw photo. The current sensor is 4k capable!

Adding avoidance sensors will push it over the 249 grams unfortunately.

Having now flown and worked with quite a few different DJI drones, I still love the ease of use and mobility the Mini offers, so easy to stick in an already overcrowded kit bag!!

  12. The media mod won't solve the lens protection problem. Unlike previous models, the 8 does not have a replaceable lens so if it is damaged in any way the whole camera must be replaced. Ouch.

And the Media mod doesn't offer a mount for a lens cover or protector.

    Strange I know but hey..

One thing I forgot to mention is that I will predominantly be using this on my motorbike, not MTB (I think) so sound is quite important for atmosphere. There will be some off-the-bike shots too and I have a lav mike for that but of course need the adapter.

    Thanks for your input. Appreciated.

Strange indeed, having an action cam without a replaceable lens.

On my 3 I replaced the lens twice. The 7 is still holding stong.

One thing I have seen the guys do with the 8, is to switch off the auto mic selecting function (not sure of the correct terms right now, its Friday afternoo) and selecting only the rear facing mic to eliminate as much wind noise as possible.

On the motorbike, you are face with plenty of wind noise unfortunately.

  13. Can't help but agree but you gotta deal with what you have. I have decided that sounds (Decent commentary and music) are important for an interesting video and that is costs a bit.

What did you use to record sound? Could be a solution for me too.

I bought the 8 after much deliberation and have already found a couple of things I like as opposed to opinions expressed on numerous videos I watched on it before buying. The things I don't like and therefore need to take care of are:

    1. Mic. As you have indicated that device is a pain but it's revenue for them and I don't see them dispensing with it.

    2. Lens protection.

My solution - costly of course - is to buy the adapter as above and then get this case which not only has a storage space for it but also place for lens filters. I hope it will solve both problems.Just trying to find an oversea supplier who will ship to SA. Most won't.

    Here it is:

    Your thoughts?

If you have the 8, why not just get the media mod from GoPro? Then you dint need that ugly black box.

Around $80 and should be much easier to get from Orms, Omnico, Outdoorphoto or Extreme Accessories.

It has an additional external mic with a jack to add you own mic and 2 hot shoe mounting slots.

Not sure about the lens protection as I have the 7,so not stressed about that.

The only time sound is important to me, is when I am doing a quick interview and someone is talking. 99% of the time we are stationary during these.

The rest of the sounds you can download from the net, from birds chirping to spokes spinning to tjops sizzling.

I have a Rode Mini Video mic with the correct cable that allows me to record directly to my phone... but that has to be mounted somewhere again and I have a rig from a tripod head that I use but too much hassle.

I also have a lav mic that can record directly to my phone, it has a very long cable which is good. They on Takealot for around R300, Boya Lav Mic.

    Prefer using this one!

In extreme wind conditions, the R300 lav mic beats the R1000 video mic even with deadcat, hands down.

  14. I want to buy one of these. Anybody want to sell one?

    mic.jpg

    I gave up on that!

That has to be the dumbest design to connect a microphone to an action cam.

Once you connect that black box, that is almost bigger than the GoPro itself, where do you put it and where do you mount your mic? You dont want it dangling freely from your GoPro and risk it being pulled out!! Or even worse, it starts swinging around causing more of a ruckus than the built in mic's!

You need to get an additional case, specific to your GoPro, to mount all these extras. And you wont be able to use that case between the 7 to the 8, for instance.

The media pod on the Hero8 seems a better option.

My final decision was to record sound separately on an external device and then just sync the tracks in post (all equipment I already have, so it works for me)

  15. I love the quality of your vids, I cant wait to see what happens when you get the air2.

Shot, thanks man!  With income standing still, that might be a while :(

At least this has given me time to practice getting more cinematic type shots!

And some crazy ideas for the Air2!  :whistling:
