  1. Haha wrong choice of words maybe.. Met up with the company group by accident(ie, not on purpose), while leaving the broadacres spar... I was in white centurion shirt, black shorts, all black bike with comics... And ridiculous green sunglasses... Stayed with the group all the way to lion park then left them, so must have been with you... Dropped my chain going up the first climb after broadacres...
  2. What bike were you on? And kit? Just interested... Must say I'm ashamed! This last week had been a nightmare with family and couldn't get out and ride as planned... Sorry guys! But managed to get out this morning and actually hopped on the cycle lab group be accident when leaving the spar... I think it was the c group? So may have seen you! Again tho, apologies for the OP, and to the respondents! But hey, at least heckflosse got some help so it's not all bad...
  3. I have found having a heart rate monitor and computer capable of counting calories... I then count calories of everything I eat during the day (and you'll be shocked at how much you can consume without noticing), you can find almost all values by googling the product and calories. Then, I check that against my recommended daily intake, and then when riding, I burn extra calories as well. Then, it's a matter of making sure you don't eat more that you burn. You'll have to lose weight. I've found this makes me think twice before eating crap. Are the calories really worth it? Naaaaah... Also, high protein is a good option, there's a massive thread here with crazy good info... Almost any professional sportsman you speak to is on that diet... But I've found that burning more calories than you beat works best for me... Ie, if I do my 80km ride on a Saturday, I'll burn between 2500-3000 cal. Compare that to my recommended daily intake of 2400 calories, it's like I've skipped a day of eating! Also remember that when your heart is in a higher zone, the calories are burnt faster, but has a lower percentage of fat calories. Lower heart rate, higher percentage. Good luck tho... I have lost about 8kgs this year since in started riding, and have a lot to lose still... So haven't got it perfect but getting there... Nothing better than feeling good about yourself... And there's no better motivation to lose weight than facing a pair of lycra cycle shorts!
  4. Yeah definitely dodgy... The pics don't match, has Eastons, mixed with zipps mixed with some blank Chinese looking rims... Hopefully someone isn't stupid enough
  5. Not even close to work! Fist leave I've had in two years and might just extend it past next week! Good luck to all of you guys! Especially the self employed ones, cause you guys don't really ever get leave!
  6. Yeah you should have seen pick n pay the day before Christmas eve... Everything was up by at least 3 Rand, which adds up when you're saving for a dream bike.. And some items were way up... Oh and don't forget that convenient etoll system that can always take the blame...
  7. Trek is R2500 at a push... Don't know mtbs.
  8. Nah it won't blow you off your bike! Well, normal conditions anyway... Ride loose, let the bike get pushed slightly and get back on your line... You should only really feel it if you have no riders either side, so it won't be a safety issue... In a pack you won't feel the crosswind... Just don't fight the wind! Use it..
  9. I don't know what you weigh, which has a big effect, but I've found that you do need to adapt your riding style to seep section wheels... You almost have to let the bike sway with the wind instead of fighting it... It can be tricky at first but you get used to it once you've out the time in... Otherwise, if you are very lightweight, looks advice above is food... Try a shallower dish or lose the dish completely and get a super light climbing wheel set...
  10. Sorry for the delay fellas, was cleaning the bike! PoS, Cap, sorry for any upset! Maybe it's too early in the morning.. Anyway, Cap, it just sounded like a one sided chain of thought through this thread. I though perhaps offering some other perspective would actually help. I'm not here to troll as I find this to be one of the most valuable and informative sites on the www. Anyway, sorry that ruffled some feathers. Last thing i want to do is derail the thread and it's purpose. Was actually trying to help. As I said, I hope you guys get the access you want! It would be an amazing thing to offer to the world.
  11. I'm not going to get into a debate over this... All I offered was some more perspective on your demands. You unfortunately will have to think from more than one perspective when asking for a decision to be made that involves more people than you. This reply shows a lot about your attitude towards the debate Sir... Frankly, it just sounds childish. And I'm so happy for you that you get to run on the mountain too... What does that matter? Dude, relax. You need to realise that you're not the only user on the mountain and that you can't have everything you want. Again, it sucks! I agree with that completely. But the actions of others have prevented you from enjoying something... It happens to all of us. Hence it is our responsibility to ensure we correct others appropriately and in a timely fashion to change behaviour. Lastly, "spectator" refers to those most likely to be making the decision that you are asking to be made... They'll probably have nothing to do with hiking or cycling, but they hold the power to decide. Hence their perspective being an important one from which to think. Good luck getting on those trails . Hope you get what you want and that more people get to enjoy our sport on our interactive monument that is table mountain. Edit: correcting auto correct.
  12. I don't live in Cape Town, so perhaps gave little effect on this topic, but this is perfectly described. Unfortunately, the majority always seems to pay for the actions of a few. And I'm sure we can all run out of fingers and toes when counting the transgressions we have seen performed by cyclists. It seems that until you start putting licence plates on bikes, you can almost never hold a douche bag accountable for their stupid actions. And they will continue, that you can guarantee! Good luck at getting on the mountain, but personally, if I had to choose who to give way to on a trail shared, it would be walkers. Less likely to litter, far less damage to the trail, and just so much less to go wrong, really. OP, think about this as if you had to make the decision. Which way would it go if you were completely rational and were a spectator instead of a participant? You would also get the bikers off the trails. Coexisting won't be guaranteed, so it just won't happen at all.
  13. Wow. Horribly sad news. Hate these reminders that what we do is actually dangerous... It always reminds me of the line "you play other sports, you don't play cycling". Rest in peace brother, and my condolences to the family. Ride safe guys.
  14. So I'm entered in the krugersdorp classic on the 12th Jan, and on leave until the 6th. Looking for a group or even one other rider to do some road rides in the cradle next week. I'm based in Bedfordview, don't mind broad acres as a start point and looking to ride a minimum of 80km each day, at an average of around 26-28km/h, although don't mind it slowing down if needs be! I'm not all that strong on the climbs but will get up with most riders... Obviously the 1st might not be the best with the previous night's celebration, but I'm flexible either way. Rides would start from 7am to allow travel time for me:) I'm fully self sufficient, a stop at the caves to grab a energy bar and relax would be cool. Just need to spend a lot of time in the saddle next week! Let me know!
  15. My s3 sits in the middle pocket, between my back and my spares packet... Keep it tight in a normal plastic bank bag... Been through races full of rain, training rides in rain, the hoses and sprinklers at 94.7, and of course, sweat on those hot long rides... Not a problem ever.
  16. Also depends on your body geometry... I have long legs and shorter torso... Bike shop insisted on a xl to fit the legs but was far too stretched, even after changing stems... Went to a large, have a higher saddle than most but am really comfy now... So depends on a lot, not just height, leg inseam is quite important. Why don't you contact the boys at cycle fit in randburg and ask for a second opinion? They're normally really will to help, and they give a great setup which will really change the way you ride and feel on a bike.
  17. I understand your frustration... But what would your rant be about if it was the same price online and in store? Along these lines perhaps: "how dare they charge the same when clearly the overheads are so much less when I buy online? Surely it should be less?" It's a book. If you don't like them, buy it somewhere else dude... Come on.
  18. But don't you dare expect them to stop a chat amongst themselves to help a customer who's looking for something... Cagees is simple. Know what you want, what it costs, and what date it was made. NEVER EVER go in and ask a question, as stated, they know FA. And that's got nothing to do with football. I particularly don't like princess, simply due to fatimas husband, who is the bald white guy who is there. He's an arrogant asshat who treats people like crap. The others have mostly decent people in them, and if you know what you want and what it costs, you'll normally get the best deal around. I never recommend them for a newbie, and the mechanics are fine for the little things... I've been ripped off by Cagees, and been really ripped off by the Big Boy cycling stores. Today, I avoid Cagees and almost always find myself at Solomon... Good pricing, Good service, and they do know what they're talking about. Workshop isn't great tho, but also fine for the small stuff..
  19. Why don't you just shove them in your back pocket of your shirt? My middle one fits levers, two tubes, a mini pump, a schrader adapter, two quick links, two bombs and a multi tool. Two pockets left for anything else and the bike looks super good sans fanny pack
  20. Hey hey hey!! If we didn't pay this kinda money, how do you expect them to keep sponsoring all those pro teams and riders! Someone's gotta foot the bill so that douche on supercycling has something to which he can practice his horrible commentary...
  21. Simple. Go to a shop that has one, then say, "I want that merida, please". Then, swipe either credit or debit card, or even hand over cash. Done. Your merida is bought.
  22. While I'm sure these items may sit for a while, please also remember to edit your post should the items be gone Thanks guys!
  23. Here. I'll get it started. I have a main carbon seat post. I won't use it and won't bother selling. It's 27.2 and is a little short, so if you have a shorter post height, it'll work. You can email me for pics on jossturner@gmail.com. Again,if you REALLY need this part, it's available. Collection only.
  24. Perhaps a post limit would be a good idea... However, I feel that too many rules with deteriorate the thread. If you have something to give, you make up your own criteria for a real need. I'm quite sure we'll get a few chances and real douchebags, but at the end of the day, you decide who you help. Let's hope it helps someone. They may not be poor, but may just need to get on the bike that week and we have the part to help.
  25. Ok, so the recent thread with the needy guy, and Oom Dips' CAPITALIZED idea, I thought this thread would be a good one.. So here's how it works. Don't fill the thread with useless comments. This is for Hubbers who can't afford to make ends meet when it comes to simply riding a bike. There are loads of us who save our asses off to buy stuff like tyres or a new chain, and simple things like gloves or lube really makes us turn to two minute noodles. We don't so this because we're bad with money, we do it because we get paid peanuts but love a relatively expensive sport! So this is what you do: If you have any items you feel could go to a better home, post a description. If you need something urgently and ARE HONESTLY IN DIRE NEED, post a message. No soppy stories please! ALL REPLIES, HELP, ETC, MUST BE DONE VIA PM! NO DIBS, NO NOTHING, PRIVATE MESSAGE IF YOU NEED OR CAN HELP WITH ANYTHING!! please respect the sanctity of this thread, and should you be aware of anyone who is faking a need for something, alert administration who can remove the post. We have so many willing and super generous Hubbers who would be happy to help those in need keep the pedals turning. AND NO ONE NEEDS A PINARELLO DOGMA. KEEP THE NEEDS TO NEEDS, NOT WANTS!
