  1. I've found the way that works for me to remember is, with the bike on its wheels, and the Allen key/spanner perpendicular to the ground but sticking above the crank, towards the back of the bike is loose, and towards the front is tight. Both sides. I usually like to have the arm horizontal to the ground but pointing to the front. That was a I can get leverage by holding the back brake and no holding on crank arms needs to take place. Might help someone avoiding a strip.
  2. Nah, I don't think you realise how slow some of these guys are and how quick they would be caught by the racy Bois... I really think they should start at back and not be allowed to pass a bicyclist. Again, if someone is unfit/fat/old/disabled, but riding without assistance, then anyone with assisnce shouldn't be entitled to blast past. Sit behind. If you get bored, maybe lose the motor and try it without, might be a lot more fun. And go for a skills course FFS
  3. Doesn't seem like it. And ill be honest. Before this race I did think E bikes should be welcomed and had no issue... Until I got bothered by one. Smaller lady, on a grey Scott E bike. Overtook me on the climbs, but had zero confidence or skills in the single track sections. So I would get overtaken, then stuck behind. Eventually find a gap and overtake, just to be overtaken again and have to sit on the brakes... My opinion now is, if you're riding an E bike for medical or physical limitation reasons, you should start at the back of the group, and no passing of normal bikes allowed. If someone is ultra slow because they're also physically limited, then you should stay at the speed, unless it's wide roads or keep track. I don't feel like those with E bikes should be able to gain a super unfair advantage over those using a proper bicycle, and then making them suffer. It was so ridiculously annoying and something has to be figured out.
  4. Route profile was deceptive and those first climbs being basically wide enough for one was rough! But a nice route, nice trails, and exciting riding... Don't really care much for pre and post event stuff, but it looked fun. Was a nice day out and I'll be doing it again!
  5. It's a rare item. It's the hard case for a set of fatshark RC goggles. So yeah, I wouldn't know where to start with finding another one
  6. Same here, I love them! Only thing missing for me is the hardcase, luckily I found one that fit them, so I feel less stressed chucking them in a backpack between flights and drives.
  7. I see they've now rebranded as Team NTT?
  8. I eyeball using tile grout. Line your wheel up dead centre on longitudinal grout. And then align your bars using a horizontal line of grout. It's the closest eyeballing I can find...
  9. Well, I grossly underestimated that route... Did plenty of training but not enough climbing... Ended up throwing in the towel at WP2 but had to go through to WP3 to get a ride home... Absolutely suffered and the mud wasn't fun when I had long ago bonked. Really impressed with the organisation, I thought the event was awesome. Didn't enjoy the start pen. People shoving bikes over the fences, pushing and shoving their way around... Really wasn't pleasant and really shouldn't have a place in our sport. Water points were awesome and we'll stocked, was the first time I've been at the back end of a race and nice to see the entire selection was still available right to the end. Will be back next year, probably won't be tackling the 160 for a while, so will do the 100km route next time around!
  10. I really never feel like there's a power difference between flats and clipless, but I prefer the clipless keeping my foot on the same place on the pedal. I don't do really any gnarly stuff, so not worried about putting foot down in a hurry, but on flats I didn't enjoy being bounced off the pedals on a hardtail...
  11. I've combined our water storage as racks, and it works great. Also simple to move around when required.
  12. Buy a steel one instead.
  13. Entered today.. Have no idea if we can finish the 100 miler but it'll be interesting to find out!
  14. On ebikes... It seems there was some inconsistencies... Pulling into the first set of gates I was right next to an older woman on a giant ebike... Marshall immediately pointed it out and just said, "no E-bikes, sorry." she of course flipped and insisted she was only riding with kids, etc... I felt for her, but also not... She would have got the sms just like I did... She clearly just thought she was above it... However, after the minor protest, the Marshall did say he would speak to someone, etc etc... I wonder if they just made the allowance if someone pitched up? Saw none in the alphabet soup I was in... Sure as **** would have grabbed on for a tow if I had!
  15. Yeah *** idea that... That area is dodgy at the best of times, and while I understand you may have been thrown off by the event, you would have been better off parking nearer to the finish... Sorry for your loss man, it must have been such a bad experience to get back to that...
  16. I didn't have a great day... First CTCT and didn't know what to expect. Came into it undertrained, overweight, unprepared, and only just recovered from a cold... Went way too hard out the gate... The wind totally fooled me and I just kept trying to hold a wheel to avoid the wind and ended up suffering more than I would have in the wind. Felt incredibly good in the mild wind on the M5, and only slowed down in fish hoek when we got hit by the headwind... The rest of my day was survival mode... Crawled up the climbs, cramped twice up chappies but managed to get through suikerbossie without cramping... Then cramped up along seapoint but had to finish.. Started in 5B, ended up probably around 5:15 for my time... Ride time was 4:44 but I had to stop and sort the cramping out... Honestly, it was a slog, a chore, and I hated the last half... But somehow I'm sure I'll be there again next year!
  17. Anyone tried the ol' glitter in sealant story? Makes sense that it might be helpful on tubeless Road setups as I assume the coagulation of the latex at high pressures is the Achilles heel of the system?
  18. This whole MTB thing is starting to get addictive! Ringing in the new year with a ultra quiet ride...
  19. Luckily I was wearing a hi vis shirt, so they let me on the site!
  20. Who knows? Maybe I get lucky... With a bike, I mean...
  21. Wider is way better... Proven to be less rolling resistance, I find the cornering and stability amazing, and you can run a slightly lower pressure safely to aid in comfort and road noise suppression. Go as wide as your frame fits without the tyre profile looking too much like a light bulb...
  22. Again, designing the tyres to last shorter distances is what pirelli is struggling with... I can only imagine their entire R&D team has been working on long lasting tyres for the entire history, now they've been asked to create a super grippy, super stable tyre but that must degrade fast enough... I can sympathize with the engineers.. I still think the grip level gap will make the difference... It would either force guys to go longer on harder tyres, with a one stop, or you could go two stints with super grippy and a short stint with the primes. I'm sure it would leave enough up to the imagination of the strategists.... Let's hope that the new aero rules will sort out the overtaking too... Right now qualifying is the most intriguing part of a weekend... At least le clerc is making things interesting, it's fun to see how he's able to make a car perform beyond its abilities... Would love to see him and Max Verchrashen go head to head as two young drivers like they used to...
  23. Pirelli have stated how it's actually really difficult to make a tyre that F1 wants, it's apparently a lot easier to make a tyre last longer.. One of the better suggestions I've hear lately is to rather have large gaps in compounds, so instead of the selected weekend compounds being HS/US/SS, it should rather be HS/SS/M. Could be a simple solution really..
  24. Speaking of promos, can you put together a winter warmer pack of arm warmers, knee warmers, and a jammit? All the basics for a jhb winter!
