    Sondela 2016

    Will see you there!
  2. Ok, hope those involved are OK! I remember around halfway, accident with the Elite ladies. Our bunch was neutralised until we passed... For some of us...
  3. Where did this happen? I rode BL & stayed upfront from Start to finish, didn't notice any crashes or mishaps! Was riding the Blue/ Black Propel with Activate Esmero kit (Blue, Yellow/ White)! Pace could have been upped, I tried a few times, but I tried to save legs for the finish. Finished 10th overall in the BL bunch.
  4. Weather around this time is pleasant too. Gets up to 30 Deg in the late morning!
  5. I know some guys who travel on the morning & spend the day there with their families as cyclists get free entry. Staying over is much better, but depends on finances & availability. I stayed over at the Cabana's & they provide special breakfast for the cyclists & start pen is a nice warm-up from the accommodation.
  6. Thanks Gerald! Much appreciated... Whats the total elevation ?
  7. Definitely new route! I remember those bumps too well. (2014, 2015) Old Classic route don't have those bumps from what I hear from guys who raced previously. Similar profiles to Fast One & Emperors
  8. http://www.cansalostcity.co.za/ The Bestmed Cansa Lost City Classic is delighted to announce that the 2016 road race returns to the original route for this year’s 19th edition of the popular event. To facilitate the change, which will now offer distances of 103km and 70km, the road race moves away from its traditional Saturday slot and will take place on Sunday, 21 August. The MTB Classic now fills the Saturday slot (20 August) over the weekend cycling festival. The reason for the event discontinuing the popular old route three years ago was the increase in traffic volumes - in particular heavy mine trucks – on the R551 from Thabazimbi, which the race came across from 23km to 45km. Never did the Classic old route, just the new 116km for the last 3 years. Thoughts? Will give race a go, always enjoyed the 116km route, Fast & Flat. http://s30.postimg.org/6naeig1i9/103.png 103km Route Profile http://s28.postimg.org/9red4yyl9/image.png 70km Route Profile
  9. Sorry if this has been asked already: Has she been bike fitted yet? Is bike the right size? Legs burning could mean, seat is too low or too high etc Does she have the right width handlebar/ stem etc? Other than that, consistency and persistence is key. Show some videos on youtube as to gears and cadence. And a much more lenient bro too
  10. I think that was me mate! Some idiot, who I Shouted long before that sharp turn to "PLEASE KEEP YOUR LINE" Took me completely out & into the barriers.... Luckily I uncleated to keep my balance but I was in the barriers already... I saw the guy who clipped the curb & fell hard over on the right...(Hope he is OK) From a 3-4 lane road, completely squeezing the race into half a lane, blindly, must be seriously looked at.. Other than that, was an awesome experience for my 1st Aquelle Tour!
  11. I hear that because of Road work/ construction, the race is now 109kms with no long Elite race.
  12. Yes, very well organised and very undulating 101km. Always enjoy this race
  13. Red CKT....I remember you mate...You had red kit on! Was good riding with you. Welcome to the Hub!
  14. Looking forward to it... There's plenty groups of varied fitness levels in our club. I'm sure you will be fine...
  15. On weekends, our club (Esmero Cycling) rides from the Mcdonald's (Gordon Rd & Ontdekkers) & ride 80/90/100/110km depending if it is a race weekend or not. On days before a race, we ride for an hour or just over. Non racing weekends, we try & do 100km Saturdays & Sundays. We ride through the Cradle, Randfontein, Krugersdorp, Tarlton etc depending on the ride. You are more than welcome to ride with us & see if you like the pace/ vibe & experience. If you do, let me know.
  16. Just bring your climbing legs mate! Love this race....
  17. I had the exact same issue in December when I was increasing Mileage & Climbing! Sounds very much like Overuse and also called Runners Knee or Patella Tendinitis... Go see a Chiro & get massaged & strapped. Ice as well. (15 minutes on, 15 minutes off, then 15 minutes again twice a day) It has helped me. Oh yes, lots of stretching...Quads especially! I didn't even take anti-inflammatories.
  18. Light Blue Top & Bib with Esmero Cycling on it....
  19. Ahh yes bud, I remember you. What an awesome ride.. We really worked hard
  20. Jislaaik.... When the B Bunch caught us, this guy (Green Top & Baggies) rubbed elbows with me on the left and nearly threw me over. Came right into my line & pushed me. I'm sure you guys were just behind & saw that. Thought I was gone for sure, managed to keep it on the tar... Well done W@nna-BE Strong ride
  21. Next time, ask for me as well... Just after the right turn IN AL, about 23kms up the drag, we lost the main A bunch... About 5-6 of us at first started rotating and going as fast as we can..(Tempo) We picked up a few more riders who were spat out in A then formed an awesome bunch who worked very hard until we hit the Built up area under the bridge where the Leading B Bunch caught & brought us home.... Awesome riding guys... I was on the Blue/ Black Giant Propel..
  22. Plenty Crashes.... hectic Yip, went into the gravel & fell over avoiding that crash...
