The respect ones right hand would need on this!! Just looking at it you know even the smallest indiscretion will be properly punished.
  2. Some bad and ugly.... crooks are bloody crooks. Chris Birch van broken into and all his bike adventure gear stolen. Area: Palmerston North https://www.instagram.com/p/CL4qxRMBTJ6/?igshid=1i4o0p7jqn0uf
  3. Agree!! Similar experience for me. Although I do ride “road” but find it very difficult here with all the 65kg Europeans on Pro Spec bikes. Not uncommon for a road ride to be 38km/h average speed. And some faster. My African bones can’t do that speed! I rode the Spruit twice a week and was at Northern Farms every Sunday with wife, kids and old man. I cannot explain just how much I miss that!
  4. So clean... love it!
  5. Found him !! [emoji16]
  6. I regularly use both BLT and Ant+ and have smart trainer and power meter on bike plus a dual HRM and Di2. Use Zwift, TrainerRoad, FulGaz, Rouvy. Overall, for me ANT+ especially for ERG control is more stable and responsive.
  7. Yip, great advice that and see daily the consequences of people falling into “the trap”. Not only can this not be your “forever home” the compensation structure puts nothing (zero) into retirement/future planning. So it’s up to you to make sure your provision. Literally, your job has salary X and X AED is deposited every month, no a single deduction for tax, savings, etc.. I’m extremely privileged and been able to move 50% of my salary offshore every month and have done so diligently since day 1. I drive a Golf, not a Porsche, ride a Scott and not a S-Works and don’t live in the Marina. I have been here a few years, don’t plan on being here past 50, so 5 more years before I need to uproot everything again with my wife and kids and onto hopefully our “forever home”.... I have a lot of family in Aus and also in the U.K now. Some also in Ireland, my heart though is Africa, I’d love to end up back in SA somewhere along the coast but who knows. Right now, living to your wise words, enjoying first world privilege and being able to save for my future. I count my blessings every single day..
  8. Sometimes things are so easy I think I’m being scammed! Another example, car insurance is paid annually. I sold my car 6 months in. Took out new insurance with a different company on new car. Next day I call old insurance and see if I am eligible for a refund (taking a chance) and was informed, “sir, we were notified yesterday that you had sold vehicle and have already processed refund”. I hung up. 48 hours later money was in my bank. Gobsmacked. So yes, we lucky to be able to experience “the other side”.
  9. LOL. You had to drive somewhere? In Dubai, you go to any optometrist (one in every mall) and have eye test. Optometrist is linked to RTA (Road Transport Authority) so test results are automatically uploaded. Next, at your leisure you download app, apply, pay and done. Virtual card in wallet. Done. Electronic everything accepted here now, no paper, no post.
  10. 1ms ping. Always a secret smile of satisfaction when I see that. Or as Jeremy Clarkson says....”that makes my man bits tingle” [emoji1787]
  11. I used to have Apple TV Bluetooth ERG failures. Would just stop controlling the trainer and I’d be 50/11 at 100rpm up a 8% climb at 180 watts. Never had any issue with exact same hardware in TrainerRoad. Was only in Zwift. I’ve since moved to PC and ANT+ and have enjoyed 9 months of no dropouts, great frame rate and buttery smooth Zwifting!
  12. Today they climb Jebel Hafeet so should test the legs a bit. Thursday the bigger Jebel Jais climb. So let’s see how he goes. They come past my house twice on Friday. Looking forward to seeing the race, I’ll be the saffer on a deck chair in a rugby jersey!
  13. I ride mostly at night. So have a few years experience and lessons learned. What works for me below.. 1. Two lights up front. One on the bars and one on helmet. 2. One light on the rear. 3. Lezyne upfront. Garmin Varia Radar on the back. 4. 200 lumens helmet and 1200 lumens on the bars. 5. Lights must be rechargeable 6. Lights must have a bracket/clamp that can be removed separately so that regular charging does not require reinstall and adjustment. Helmet light severs as a backup in case bar one dies and visa versa. Helmet light also helps to light up where you are looking, down at your gears, fixing a puncture, looking at your Garmin etc. Helmet light also serves as a constant moving light source which I believes makes you easier to see. Helmet light should not be too powerful/heavy or you will feel it and affect helmet performance. I ended up buying two Lezyne 1300xl front lights. One one the bike and one on charge, a bit of a luxury but if you using them everyday for commuting you will be grateful. Price point, still cost less than some of the fancier options out there.
  14. Welcome Holiman, Try posting your online bike shop question in another section. I’m not sure people head over to this thread often. And remember, anything you buy you need to share on “Boast about your latest purchases here..” thread.
  15. Nice! Watch the carb slide disc wear, I had one of those and it was worn, and it can get stuck wide open, a scary situation once that 250 gets on the pipe.
  16. Depends on quality and torque range you looking for. They can really range in quality and price. My 1/4 inch drive “bicycle” one is ParkTool and I bought it online from EVObikes. My 3/8 inch “motobike” one is over the top fancy and is a Bluepoint which I got from the Toolshop in StrydomPark. My 1/2 inch “car and engine” one I got from Ardendorf in Randburg.
  17. I’ve had the pleasure of being given the experience in a modern rally car driven by a multiple SA rally champ. There are no words to explain, I didn’t blink or breathe for 2 minutes I think. In those few minutes I realized I’d never be a world champ. Their ability to read, respond, adapt and predict micro changes in split seconds are gifts, you cannot be taught that.
  18. Fact or speculation? Genuine question.
  19. You referring to last year? Or has he had a new test?
  20. New helmet day...
  21. Police report indicates that Alonso was cycling past stationary cars when a car coming from the opposite direction turned left in front of him into a shopping parking lot. Damage to right hand side of the car. Driver of the car must have seen all the stationary cars and thought safe to turn. Pretty luck if only a broken jaw. But you know how quiet these guys are ahead of racing. Never wanting to show any weakness. (Mark Webber covers his broken leg in a lot of detail in his book and was quite interesting). Let’s hope he’s ready and fit come round 1. https://www.motorinolimits.com/2021/02/13/incidente-alonso-la-dinamica-secondo-la-polizia-cantonale/
  22. Do G Wagons only lean to the one side in South Africa?
  23. What side is the steering wheel on?
