  1. And all Amex really is in South Africa is a Nedbank Credit Card. I used to have one, traveled alot into Africa. Was bloody useless.
  2. Trailseeker Series does this already :-)
  3. I'm using Oakley RX, agree they are expensive but they are superb. The best thing to do IMO is to just go to a good optometrist, ask them what sunglasses frames they will be able to put your script into (not a big curved lens) and have them made up. I had the Rudy Project ones. They were heavy and the insert scratches the lens if/when it rubs.
  4. I've got some block mount pics from my karting days in the house shot by Steve. He and Colin Watling we part of the racing family. RIP.
  5. The std 32t ring is not ideal because of its tooth profile being designed to pickup and drop off the chain to the other rings. However in saying that I used mine for a few rides just to determine how many teeth I wanted on my 1X10 setup. It did drop the chain once, one three rides so not terrible. I settled on 34t and bought a wolf tooth NW ring. Have never dropped a chain with it. XT Clutch at the back with no chain guide. I have an 11-36 at the back. This gives me 34km/h @80rpm and 8km/h @ 60rpm respectively. 29 inch hardtail. I've installed in the "middle ring" location so needed shorter chainring bolts. Chain line is ok but ideally it should be spaced in a bit. I honestly don't why I didn't do this ages ago. I have all the gears I need. The only difference is now I actually use the whole range on the cassette. With a triple setup I just used a few at the back and changed between the rings at the front. Simple, clean, neat.
  6. Always a fun event and happy to support the great venue.
  7. 10km is better than 0km on the couch! Good one, enjoy!!
  8. Because crossfit has a lot of Olympic Lifting and Gymnastics in it, it is very important to go to an official affiliated box (CF for Gym). There are many around. Best thing to do is log onto www.crossfit.com and search for affiliates in your area. That means they have proper certified coaches etc. I go to CrossFit Ivory or CrossFit BST. Both on the Westrand.
  9. Yip, I'm also doing Crossfit. It's made a huge difference to my cycling and off-road bike racing. It's always a different workout, never boring and I've never worked so hard in 1 hour before. Quality workout. I used to suffer badly with lower back pain from cycling, I have no issues since starting CF.
  10. Why you leaving your bike on the car rack anyway? I ride at Northern Farms every weekend and it sits right next to me while I enjoy a coke and burger afterward. Or, why don't you help the locals there and pay for the cool bike wash facility they have while you shoot the breeze with your mates? Bottom line, these bikes are expensive and mine is always in my sight.
  11. That's why I did what I did and made a small deflector on the Thule. No mod to the car so no warranty issue and when the rack is off exhaust is normal.
  12. Thanks for all the advise. Appreciated. It all makes sense.
  13. I love my Edge 500 but I don't do any running so not sure how it will work for that. On the bike, it's spot on. Just the right amount of info and a great price. The higher models are nice but the price is silly.
  14. I made my own plate for the Fortuner. Took an old house for sale sign, cut it with tin snips, spray painted it black and pop riveted it to the Thule rack where the exhaust blows. Over 5000km of towing my bikes and not a single issue. Cost, 10 bucks. Time, 30min.
  15. Hello all. I'm riding a Scott carbon hardtail and have endless issues breaking spokes on the back wheel. Time to change the wheels. Any suggestions under the R7k mark? Crest, XT or Crossride. Anything else? I'm on the heavy side, 100kg, half-marathon type racing.
  16. I was there today too. Got hot pretty early!!!
  17. I've ride there once a week, never had a single problem, ever. Yes there has been the odd incident but many of the ones I heard were not actually on the farm. People refer to that whole area sometimes as Northern Farms so I thinks it's got the wrap for more than it deserves. My wife and 10 year old boy ride there too. They feel safe. Stick to the marked routes and you should be fine. IMO
  18. I understand that. Everyone to their own. I'm only giving my view. Seen some good ideas here, including yours to call in person, also like the idea of getting ID number etc. Any contractor that sets foot on my property shows me his ID at the gate, and I take a pic of it. No ID, no deal. I'm glad though this ended well.
  19. You don't mention in your post if he looked at the bike face to face? Assume it was from another city as you mention shipping. That's my first warning when selling something. I would never buy anything that I haven't seen and inspected so will never sell anything in the same manner. Just way too risky. Glad you didn't fall for it though and thanks for the warning.
  20. I commute on a bike and when I see the idiots doing that even I get pissed off!! I don't know what the point is.
  21. I'm using the Edge 500. Does everything I want and more. The 510 & 810 are nice but I can't justify the extra $$ for what seem to be non-essential extras IMO. Drop me a PM if you want and I will share one of my workouts from Garmin Connect so so can see what data it captured etc.
