  1. Not technical at all - no really, not technical at all. Pretty much a mostly flat jeep track. 8km, 17 and 21km loop. You do pass some wild animals like Springbok, Eland, Duikers, Zebra.
  2. Oh dear! What does it do, should I rather get a normal protector, or what do you guys recommend?Wernervdmerwe2009-07-06 11:35:53
  3. *grin* - Yeah, I have been spoken to about them when I took her for a setup earlier today, gonna swap them for the SRAM racing grips and see how they go
  4. Indeed - the Anthem will be first, Fox 100, XTR rear, XT front, will place add and price in for sale later today.
  5. The rest will very soon appear in the for sale section to rescue my credit card

  7. This is excellent!
  8. Some of you are probably more clued up with this feature of Garmin than I am. For argument sake, let's say that you are doing a 10km lap at an average of 10km/h - your total time will an hour (ignoring variables) Let's say you do the same lap the next day, but stop halfway for 5 minutes for whatever reason, now the Garmin will detect that you have stopped an auto-pause itself - suppose you have an average speed on that one of 10km/h as well (as the Garmin is paused while you are stationary) will you finish in the same time according to the Garmin, or will you 'lose' by 5 minutes?

  10. Wow... yeah - that is a bit reassuring. Maybe it is a bit of a myth, but still, Alu will bend and ding, carbon might just go crunch, but then again, it might really not. Also I think that Brian Lopes probably does not only have one frame, and Ibis will gladly replace his frame should any hairline fractures come along, that is one of the luxuries most of us do not have. But again, it might just be, as he said, one big misconception.
  11. Hi felt, I will do my absolute utmost to rather sell the Trance and the Anthem in order to keep the Santa Cruz, I have been advised to sell the Trance and SL so I can use the Anthem for stage or lap races where the Ibis might not be the best, but I don't think I will be able to do that!
  12. I am at the point of buying a Ibis Mojo frame, but I read in one review the guy said that it is a great bike, but in the back of your head you always have the nagging thought that it is a carbon frame and he remained a little nervous that it will break under him. This naturally got me thinking - do you guys trust carbon mountain bikes? I really don't want to have to replace the frame anytime because I have to, mainly because I don't think I will be able to afford the insurance on that bike, nor will I have the bucks to buy another one as I am selling all but one of my bikes to make this possible. So am I crazy to even go this route, or are the Ibis' strong enough to withstand falls and spills?
  13. When do you know when you have to replace the slime in your tubeless conversion? I had a flat halfway through a trail in Grabouw, only then to realize there were no more slime left...
  14. Both are really good forks, I lean towards the RS because their service cycle is less frequent and the home base is local, here in Cpt, so if it needs to go away, I am only without a fork for a day or two. Also SRAM has really been pushing the price range and you can now get a RS fork in a better class than a Fox in same price range. I have always been a die hard Fox fan purely because of the name and the hype of the brand. The Fox I would say does have better small bump compression on the 100mm side, but who really wants a completely smooth ride anyway? I have a F100RL on my Trance and Anthem and a Reba Race on my Santa Cruz, the Fox is more comfortable (adn I like the fact that the air 'talks' to you while riding), but I tend to be faster through the single track on the RockShox. In the end I think it boils down to the same argument as SRAM vs Shimano, both really really good, each guy will probably vouch for the one he rides at that point.Wernervdmerwe2009-06-26 09:51:52
  15. O yes, and I have seen CRC selling XTR levers with XT calipers or visa versa, one of the two anyway From Shimanos FAQ: How interchangeable are Shimano's hydraulic disc brake systems? All Shimano hydraulic disc brake systems are interchangeable. Depending on the model of the brake lever and caliper, the connections may differ and could require replacing of the hose and/or the connection fitting, but the brake levers and calipers are fully compatible. That said - I am not sure if the older calipers will be able to handle the pressure of the servowave (?) levers.Wernervdmerwe2009-06-23 13:35:33
  16. We were debating this same topic some time ago... I would be interested to hear what the guys have to say. There are the obvious things like mineral oil vs DOT - they must be the same, but for the rest - I am not sure...
  17. I might be the only one to be SCOTT free, as I only have Giants and Santa Cruz! Mini rave for me!
  18. Bought my Specialized Comps from Willie Engelbreght - that's close to you?
  19. Much debate has been had on the subject here on the hub. For me, SRAM is also the way to go based on my experience with both, specially in mud, I found the SRAM to be crisper and faster, also requires less adjusting once set - so I am a SRAM-fan myself. But in the end it boils down to personal preference.
  20. Ok - pardon my ignorance, but what does events like the MTB Argus and Vigne-a-vigne classify as? Up until now I thought they were XC events?
  21. I recently changed from X-9 triggers to X-0 gripshift, works great, and it'll take care of the brake positioning... But yeah, will need to replace your RD, not sure if Shimano makes a gripshift?
