  1. Konaman, I bought one for R100 at Helderberg cycles - that was the KCNC one. Turned out I had the bracket without the spacer anyway, so I have half a one spare. Where you situated?
  2. I don't promote violence, but I grew up in a mining town where violence, even during petty crime, was almost a given. If you were caught walking alone at night, you lose your jewels for a tobacco bag or at best receive a beating. I remember walking home in groups with spiked knuckle dusters just to make sure you actually get there. Also worked for a trauma counselling organisation for a year, and after the second or third visit to the hospital in 4 - 6 weeks chatting to people who were visited at night by affirmative shoppers with faces full of stitches from knife wounds - I am not sure I won't shoot before asking questions! Surely my role is to protect my wife and family? Apparently the law says that you can only defend yourself with a similar weapon or less-lethal weapon than your attacker, so if he comes with a knife, you are 'allowed' to use your hands or a knife, not a gun etc etc. Kinna warped I think?
  3. Nope - think that is the one that Hog has now
  4. CJ - where are you situated? The other option is to take the bike to one of the hubbers in your area, he/she can maybe give you some tips and sort it out for you?
  5. Same here - been using mine for more than a year now (bought 2 Sep 2008) and have not had any such issues (only a usb pickup issue if I had virtualbox running).
  6. Yup, what MintSauce said, plus: I have XTR IS brakes - took me a while to find the right adapter to run a 180mm rotor in front. If you do have IS brakes, the KCNC adapters for the Manitou forks works 100%. Post mount is no prob, you just adjust the caliper, IS does need the shims, but some LBS' I have asked, gave me some for free. Did buy a couple in the end, so if you are in the Cpt area, I can help you adjust/fit them and give you some shims if you needWernervdmerwe2009-09-24 01:55:36
  7. @Help.Me. - I had the same prob with my 305, where ST does not detect the device. Ended up being a conflict with Virtualbox or VMWare, depending which one was running. Stopped that - no more issues - maybe you have something running that holds the USB port? @thread - I have not yet had those issues where it switches off mid ride or stops charging - I am either lucky, or I ride like a pansy!
  8. Also heard bad things about pressure washers. I use one of those pump-action spray things with a water & clean green mixture, then rinse it with a normal hose-pipe. Works great - bit not for a stage race
  9. I had the steerer replaced on my Fox back in the day when I still had an Anthem. Steerer was R100 (steel) or R150 (alu) and the labour also there abouts. Don't go for steel though... Waited abt 3 weeks as suppliers did not have alu steerers. The only diff between new and old steerer is the race does not fit snug, but that had no effect once on the bike that I could tell. Chat to Fred at Geco Cycles in Cape Gate
  10. Interesting question. The Recon is a cool fork, bit heavy for the weight guys, but still a nice fork. Nothing wrong with changing the travel, it is just adding spacers internally, so no real biggy - depends on your budget really.
  11. I agree, crank, cassette and chain should be first on the list - can't beat SLX for value there.
  12. or buy a hope rotor - it is avail in different colours..Wernervdmerwe2009-09-05 05:57:24
  13. I can vouch for CFS CT - great service and good pricing! CycleLab is quite expensive, but you get lots of 'extras' and I am yet to find a shop that returns your bike cleaner. Further CMC for maintenance is exceptional, and BMC for wheel building and if you looking for someone who will try fix before replace if you ask.
  14. Maybe Crow or Master316.... Or my Ibis Now before the questions come flying, best for DH, AM, XC?
  15. I had LOOK quarts', they in a box in the garage now, nice pedals, but they clip out extremely easily, so if you are doing a sprint up a hill or suddenly place any pressure upwards, they would un-clip, causing your knee to come flying past your ear...
  16. I am 1.75 and I ride a medium - on the Anthem team frames they gave which height should ride which size (obviously aprox), but that put me well into medium. My wife is 1.6 something, and according to the santa cruz site, falls in the area where medium and small overlap, so I would say go medium
  17. I won't, imagine how tired your arm is gonna get holding the wheel like that!
  18. Any chance you can get the Rydon in a Photochromic yellow lens? The effects of a yellow lens is really incredible but the Photochromic will be a huge benefit as well
  19. I would also vote SLX - incredible crank apparently, all the reviews are very positive. If in any way possible, waiter, beg, wash cars for the bucks - will be worth it.
  20. That must be very light... What does she weigh? Very pretty by the way!
  21. The pistons auto-adjusts to compensate for pad wear, so when you replace the pads, you have to gently push the pistons back. I press against the pads with a screwdriver, not on the actual piston itself. Sometimes, if you can't get the pistons back by gentle pressure, you have to loosen the reservoir screws just a little and then press them. Please remember to position the bike / lever so the reservoir is level with the ground, else the oil will just pour out. Once pistons are re-seated, you can tighten those screws again. Once either / both the above is done, take the caliper off and fold a business card over the rotor. Then replace the caliper over the business card (you have now basically increased the thickness of the rotor). You then compress the lever a couple of times (lightly) to compensate for the adjustment of the pads. You can now tighten the caliper while holding the lever in, no need to press the lever as if trying to bend it though. Faster the bolts on the caliper, roll the wheel and the business card will pop out. At this stage you should have rub-free disks!
  22. Still close to Builders Warehouse, just turn left instead of right if that makes sense. They are in the row of shops between the garage and Builders warehouse...
  23. Flowta had a pair of Olympics for sale - R2800 if memory serves, maybe drop him a PM?
