  1. As a dark skinned, hook nosed bearded arab, I once made the mistake of wearing a rich green t-shirt that said 'Don't panic, I'm islamic' while catching a flight from NYC to Toronto... 6 hours later and a cavity search later they looked at my passport....
  2. Hey Chad Sorry, I have been struggling with a few things this year which has taken my focus away from the early campaign. I did ride The Swartberg Gran Fondo and the Gallows on the BMX in my jorts, so the physical side is on track for where we are in the year. I will update with some pictures and a link to the whole shpeel ASAP. It is definitely still on, I have just had to focus on some things close to home which have been somewhat consuming and also taken away a lot of my confidence. I've noticed that ant sort of 'back me' or social media/attention thing is hugely reliant on confidence. The thought of selling myself or my actions as a 'brand' that people would like to support is currently scary and intimidating and difficult to imagine, but I am busy sorting that out. Thank you so much for your interest, it certainly is a good positive jolt in the right direction.
  3. For my own tinkerings, does anyone have or know where I can perhaps get 1 or two old broken carbon bike frames? I need a few main tubes for a project and it's easier to cut them from a frame than make them
  4. Yo! I have a pair of shin guards in really good condition..... The neoprene velcro on ones. I think 661 if I remember correctly. I saw them yesterday while cleaning out Harry Potter's bedroom
  5. USADA shows quite a few people bust over the last 18 months....... Looks like a fair few age group cyclists
  6. Dude gets caught being a sexual predator with minors..... Internet spends days arguing semantics and which man is more correct in his depiction of the events and how he agrees/disagrees with CSA. In this case, a few people need to take a few steps back and just look at the situation and think about the big picture. This is so much bigger than a bunch of one uppers taking a stance on the proceedings
  7. Dunno Grooming, introducing minors to pornography and various counts of inappropriate sexual or sexualised behaviour to which he has been found guilty more than once due to visual evidence. Grooming and being sexually inappropriate with more than one minor isn't a small matter. I don't think anyone here is out of line. It is disgusting, inexcusable behavior. There is no defence to this and the outrage is warranted. The whole thing makes my skin crawl
  8. Reading some of the replies, it seems as though a lot of the posters made posts without reading the statement. Or, my favourite, reading it to reply, not reading it to understand it. Most of the questions here are in fact already answered in the release, or at least explained why they are not covered.
  9. How is me asking you if you believe you know more than the coaches and doctors 'gatekeeping'? The fact that you're defensive and confrontational is ironic as 'you realise that a forum is made exactly for this purpose right?' I am fascinated by motivation and what drives people. I'm also really interested in the delusions of fans and the weird associations and reactions people have with outcome. But ja, never mind. I'll remember not to engage in your delusions in future 🫡
  10. I'm not being confrontational, but do you really reckon that sitting in Cape Town, you know better than the professional coaches who have access to all numbers, information and plans as well as a known historical relationship with the athlete and how he recovers and how he has thrived in the past? I'm really interested as it just reminds me of the rugby fans who always know better than the coaches, statisticians and technical directors. I'd guess the coaching teams and doctors know way more than we do and these things aren't just written up on a whim. But meh, what do I know
  11. The case reading was interesting. Seems the legal team actually managed to positively influence the proceedings and make some very open ended suggestions that were left hanging behind whose onus the outcome was on. Both teams had a good go at making sure the correct semantics, statements and words were used in actually declaring the case, as one or two of the 'regularly used' terms were questioned as it influenced how the case was read. 2 years for an age grouper.... Still in with a shout at many future KONAs
  12. Yeah If the chainline isn't straight it will catch the ramp teeth and try to shift up or down. It's always tough in a race situation. I hope the frame isn't ruined but it seems less than ideal currently. If you can understand my relatively poor description, the oval ring needs to be at it's longest/tallest perpendicular to the ground. See below my old SS with an oval chain ring
  13. So, in short, you can. BUT you have to set the chain tension with the oval chainring at a very specific position. The 'longest' ends of the oval ring need to be vertical so the chain is long enough. It will go slightly 'slack' when not at that exact setting, but as it's a retainer ring in a straight line, you shouldn't drop your chain
  14. Nils at Woodstock cycle works is your best bet
  15. hahahaha this last bit is my little snapper. He loves to hit the bigger stuff when I'm not looking and often see him picking his bike up, brushing the gravel and checking for blood/clothing damage... It's hilarious
  16. Events at Spice Route Western Cape and Pretoria Boys yesterday, so judging by the fact that JeffK had a bike stolen in Cape Town, I'd assume Spice Route. I'm also not trolling, but wanted to search to see if there were any reports of any injuries there as it is alluded to below; . I know a friend of mines kids raced there yesterday. I'll ask him what he thought about it. Hope your son is ok. From experience, CSA err on the side of caution. I've done enough practice runs on XCO courses only to be told A lines have been closed due to 'safety concerns' with what I regard as pretty straight forward features. It would be very out of character for them to assume unnecessary risk
  17. At 6 years old I was racing BMX. I fell off trying to clear doubles all the time. Is it 'dangerous' or is it a point of concern? If they aren't going fast enough to clear a tiny ramp, are they going fast enough to do much damage? Post some pictures? And were there any injuries other than some grazes and ego? (Of the parents and the kids). I see your concern and I understand your instinct to protect your young, but sometimes it's best to push them out of the nest to see if they fly.
  18. There is almost always saving on wheels and tires...... carbon chord 1 piece spoke laced to hookless carbon rims with Maxxis Aspens..... That's like 2kg right there
  19. 'disadvantage' of a lighter rider though is nonsense. No one rides without pedaling, and keeping up while on a descent involves far less energy. It's only a 'disadvantage' if no one pedals and just free wheels. Then there is skill as well as the impact heavier things have on obstacles. Add to that a heavier bike will take more effort to handle as well. In the real world, the only disadvantage one has with a lighter bike is reliability of components when put through stress. Less weight means less material which means less robust. Brakes will also take more abuse if stopping a heavier object at higher speeds with more momentum. The downhill thing is a ridiculous concept in the real world
  20. One only obsesses about bike weight if you are prone to such things and sometimes it's only for a while when you think you're good enough to call yourself a 'racer'. Then you go to Belgium and get beaten by a mother of 3 on a 19 year old skiddonk bicycle who only gets to train at night, some 60 plus people and about 300 dudes who just race better than you after fighting your way to the front of the start line on a Wednesday night because you pulled the whole & group to a 2:55 at Argus a few times. Then you realise that no matter what you ride, you aren't a racer, never will be, never was and it's ok to ride for fun and stop obsessing over weight, gear ratios, tire choices etc and just ride your bike and remove all the clutter, admin and wasted time and energy that comes with it. Some people never get to experience that or never get past the obsession phase, but there really is something special in acceptance and clarity that riding a less than optimal bike is more than ok, you are pretty average anyway
  21. Armchair science! hahahahahahaha Dudes and Dudettes, for MOST, a few grams to a couple of kilograms means very little. To some it means more but weight can be offset by aero, handling, comfort etc..... What works for me may also not work for you. This discussion has way too many absolutes and false information posing confidently as fact. IMHO this discussion is endless, it has no correct answer and involves way too many swing variables that will affect the outcome of the conclusion for very specific circumstances.
  22. The Tokai greenbelts? Start low down and scoot around the flat stuff up to Southern Cross junction and back? I took my mom there when she was in her late 60s to get a feel for a MTB and she was absolutely fine
  23. Brooks seem to make very hard under foot shoes, while the Saucony has a more cushioned, softer feel. Saucony/New Balance Hierro are spongy cloud heaven for shorter runs, while I use the Brooks for longer stuff as my feet get 'less tired' if that makes any sense. Very different feeling shoes but I find they all have a purpose.
  24. I think I have your bottle....... What is the crash replacement policy like with the boys at South?
  25. I was... I think I left at 13:47 This was snapped a little while later...
