  1. This is the entire foundation of this thread, the dangers and alternatives, not that you have contributed, we are discussing option on how to make it safer, 180 Elite riders cannot ride in single file. but you will not know this, why do I get the feeling we are speaking to some overweight dude on his mountain bike, in pink lycra with a 5 litre saddle bag
  2. you obviously have no idea,
  3. picture below of the $ Group, it displays the size on the group. I think it is easy to complain and I was just as disappointed by the parking, from what I have heard many places like Stellenbosch do not want these cycling events, they have been told not to bring them to these towns, they bring no income, take up all the parking and cause major traffic disruptions to the venue, I’m sure it’s getting difficult for organizers to find suitable venues. In the 1990 all races started at Constantia Village or most, heading up Constantia neck, down into Hout Bay and then Chappies, many routes, the rotary roller comes to mind, but the shopping malls and Constantia village no longer wanted the cyclists and it all moved to the flat lands. These races in Duranville are dangerous, the motorist has no tolerance for anyone but themselves, they are not willing to slow down, the road belongs to them and them alone. In groups like $ yesterday, the peloton echeloned to the right lane and even moved right into that yellow line, if you don’t want to get dropped you have to follow, that’s the choice you have, if a car came over that hill it could have wiped out that front of $, I fear another accident like this could end it. Cyclists are running out of suitable venues and our battle to cars will only allow one casualty.
  4. Is this the dude in a blue old Mazda 323, I did a race a year ago, he pulled right in, cut everyone off and starts shouting he will cancel the race if we go over the white line, you need to be careful who you give authority too, some guys just cannot handle it
  5. he is not giving it way, he is asking the ticket price, jeepers os
  6. Im in $, we have two race number sfor our backs, a seat number and a handlebar number, im running out of real estate on my bike
  7. +27 82 492 6002 call Brian if you want an entry, he cannot do it
  8. Collected my race pack yesterday, looks like we will be moving billboards, does anyone know if that handlebar plastic thingy is compulsory or is it just for jet photos
  9. I have just noticed that CRC, no longer ships Shimano to South Africa, like the Sram deal, anyone experience the same thing. try this link below, change your destination to UK and the South Africa, product is not available to South Africa https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shimano-dura-ace-r9100-2x11sp-sti-shifter-set/rp-prod150055?mx=a
  10. you want Skynets email address they are pretty good at replying, maybe they need your ID details and to pay the customs fee
  11. I have been using CRC for years and yes Skynet is not great. I ordered a dura ace group-set between Merlin and CRC, here are the facts Ordered from CRC on the 31 Dec parcel arrived 15 Jan. Ordered From Merlin on the 11 Jan arrived 16 Jan With CRC and Skynet, they send you an email with EFT details, but i found it in my junk mail, then you have to EFT and wait two days for it to reflect, then get back on the email and ask them if they got the proof of payment, jeepers back to the 1980. Merlin uses UPS and there three day service, ordered Friday, they called me Saturday for my ID number, then Wednesday called to say the delivery is on way and what i owe, UPS man brings a Credit card machine. looks like you have to order GBP130 now on CRC to get free postage
  12. I called Garim SA in JNB, they said drop it at Nav world maitland, they have scheduled pick ups, the crash replacement they recon is R1700 and sure Nave world stick on a few bucks which im happy with, 2.5 years old and i rode lots with it, so happy if this works out
  13. I'm.happy with just over R2000 if I could replace, so do I call NAV world, for the life of me I cannot recall where I bought it
  14. It's a 520, I'm sure if they do screen repairs it will be a 520, I hope they give me the option 9f crash replacement, the battery is not great any more
  15. Apologies in advance, im sure its been asked before. Were does one go in Cape Town to get a Garmin repaired, I broke my screen? thanks in advance
  16. any confirmations, is the the boring version, or has the good old Backsberg race returned
  17. any know where you can see all the results
  18. last years race was like watching paint dry, not worth it , in 2015 they took you up the mountain, and great down hills afterwards, anyone know if the route is teh same as last year
  19. Yip, Had the earlier versions of the Stans, got a set of MK3 Arch and cracks started, rear wheel drive side, MY LBS replaced , I had to pay for build and tape, 4 months later the warranty rim does it again, I bought a second set at CWC a few months ago and these seem to last, Im thinking the early MK3 may have been problematic and then they corrected the mistake, just check your rims often
  20. All part of mountain biking, flats hills, even getting lost sometimes unfortunately, I used that flat section to close some gaps on the skinny climbers, one of the best one day races on the calendar
  21. yip, replaced it twice for good measure
  22. call called them very helpful. my cadence sensor stopped working, my Garmin 520 will pick up other cadence sensors, so it must be the sensor, anyone had similar problems
  23. Anyone know if there is a place in Cape Town that repairs or is a service center for Garmin?
  24. after all the hype I did this event last year. Its so different to any other stage event, firstly with just 200 riders its very boutique, you dont feel like one of the masses like you would at so many other events, you get to know the small team of riders, its true family affair with the owners/farmers/event organizers serving you breakfast themselves, you feel valuable. The Single track I must warm you, is sick, i hate to say it but you almost wish for a 1 km piece of jeep track just to get a energy bar in and a drink of water, there is simply nothing like it, its simply the best ST you will ever experience and with only 200 riders there are no Qs, its all yours, the setting is amazing, the food is great, if you are looking for an event in this price range, and there are many, do this one.
