  1. hopefully I get the bike back today as Rockshox are replacing the bushes
  2. totally normal, they are manufactured like that to assist in clean, quick chainring shifts.
  3. I'll keep you in the loop. LBS mech not happy either and so we'll hopefully have some feedback sooner rather than later
  4. SIR Maxxis I did that and that is where the greatest amount of 'knocking' seems to be....I will be taking it back to the shop FYI knocking is noticeably more on the damper side than the air spring side
  5. Johan I appreciate that they all have some play, however it is very noticeable when riding technical track as I tap onto the brakes I have that distinct headset-is-loose knock. if I lift the front of the bike a few inches and drop it onto a hard floor I get that headset-is-loose knock too...it seems excessive compared to manitou, fox and the reba forks I have owned previously. (FYI the fork is brand spanking new) Berg Bok: I checked the thru-axle as per the thread you mentioned, its tight.
  6. I have a new SID fork and there is play in the bushings. I'm a well experienced DIY bike mech servicing my own bikes for more than 20 years and I've checked the usual suspects. I've ensured the headset is properly tightened and the brake caliper is properly tight. The rotor is tight as is the thru axle on the hub. I have another Reba that I've ridden for 8 months and it has no play at all. so what to do?
  7. broken. seen similar things on a Bulls and a Scott, The aluminium BB shel has separated from the carbon.
  8. I'd go with the double sided tape option. Cheap and you can replace it every year if need be.
  9. I hear all the comments about Ikons lasting long. That may or may not be true but you will never find out because you will put so many holes in it you will retire it long before it wears out. I got to seven plugs eventually. That being said it is a fast and grippy tire. Racing Ralphs are very good and I have also had good service from Bontrager Jones.
  10. Bottelary Hills with mtbmom life is tough but someone has to pick up the slack
  11. yes the 2012 only comes in 10 speed. You can run a 10 speed crank on a 9 speed system without issues.
  12. Ikons are rubbish - super light but puncture resistance is appalling. I ride one at the back and currently have 5 plugs in it I feel for Dave and Kev
  13. first thing to do is use 600 grit waterpaper and make sure there are no burrs (raised pieces of metal ) that will damage your wipers. No doubt you will have to service your fork more often as there will be some dirt ingress. But it will still give you lots of good miles. you will in time need to replace the fork ( you can replace just he uppers, but it is often so expensive you may need to just replace the whole shooting match) not good news I am afraid,
  14. taken through my 12 inch home made telescope with a Samsung Galaxy s2
  15. I once rode only having done two rides in the preceding six months. I kakked off but got a 2:40 (on the old route) in the front bunches you keep in the bunch until chappies quite easily. I riveted on chappies and was nearly delirious by the top of suikerboosie
  16. If you park at hillcrest you can do hillcrest, contermans and kliprug - easy access safe parking and loads of trail...chekc out http://www.tygerbergmtb.co.za/trails.html
  17. tell us the story...always interested when good stuff happens!
  18. is this a crankset with NEW chainrings? I ask because at one stage I put a new cassette and chain on and for the first time ever I had horrendous chain skipping issues on the chainring...I put on a new ring and all was fine. FYI I am running an SRAM double on a 9-speed setup with no issues at all so that should not be a problem. I have a mate running a full 9speed setup with a 10 speed chain and no issues (dont ask why)
  19. no it's not IF you are doing a single speed ring as there is no shifting. For a shifting system the 3d profiles help shifting, yet many cheap rings have been stamped for decades and have no 3D component at all. B
  20. what crank is that...almost looks like the old mavic one? just drop some spacers between crank and blade...should be fine.
  21. it should...I have a mate running 10 speed chain on a completely 9 speed system but I cannot guarantee it...
  22. tomorrow afternoon/evening suit you?
  23. I recon you will never go back. here is mine
  24. the weight saving is minimal. But with a 29er the gear ratios are much more usable. a 44x11 on a 29er is really never needed in fact neither is 44x12 and 44x14. by going double up front you make more usage of the cassette and you land up with less redundant gears than you have with a triple where around 25% of the gears are redundant.
  25. yeah or you can try get other chainring bolts
