  1. Sitting up you will use less of your ass muscles. Try using the resistance to simulate climbing and so on. What I do is use one gear that you kan keep a speed of around 30km/h on your preferred cadance. Then start on resistance low for 10min, 1 for 5min, 2 for 5min, 3 for 5min, 4 for 5min, 5 for 5min, high for 5min, then again 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 each for 5 min. Trying to keep your cadance constant. Sit in a normal cycling position. If you do it for shorter intervals, then try doing the pyramid three times. Another nice session is, again, one gear, resistance low for 10min, then 2 for 10min on 90rpm, then 3 for 10min on 100rpm and again level 2 for 10min on 90rpm. repeating to fill your 2 hours You will notice that the time goes a lot faster and you keep occupied by trying to concentrate on cadance and time of intervals.

  4. Like the last 2 said, it depends more on your riding style. Grind more = longer, spin more = shorter. Easy.

  9. Thats why crank length has less to do with your leg length and more with your ride style. If you like spinning, go shorter, if you like grinding, go longer, if you can do both, go middle. If you look at marco pantani, he was a smallish dude, but climbed with 180mm cranks, where Armstrong used 172.5mm because he could grind and spin.
  10. That would actually mean his leg speed is slower, so for the same RPM his legs would turn slower, because its a shorter distance being coverd in the same time. Speed = distance X time. But, he will not be able to push the same amount of torque for the same speed to get the same wattage, so you will tend to spin more, using a lighter gear. A longer crankarm will give him more leverage to push a harder gear and so his leg speed will drop.

  12. Also, if it persists after checking everything, check that the B screw is adjusted correctly. the top jockey wheel should be at most 5mm away from the gear. If it is further away, then the slightest wear on the cassette will cause the chain to jump, because the entry angle of the chain is larger and the chain is in contact with fewer teeth.
  13. a cassette cannot wear a chain out. a chain does not stretch, if a cassette is worn out, the chan will skip over the teeth. you can use almost any chain on any cassette, as long as the chain is the is the higher spec, eg 10sp chain on 9 sp cassette. your shifting will not be great, but it depends on how you ride on the trainer. I personally use one gear and change the resistance, this way i can use almost a single speed on the trainer. Using one older gear that can be worn out like hell. But in no cercumstances will a gear wear out a chain!

  16. Okei, now bring him to cycling, where he still has all those advantages, would you respect him or judge him if he beats you. You cannot say he has less chances for injury, he was out of competition for a month with pressure sores from his prostetic legs. He normally competes in the shorter distances, I personally would like to see him take part in something like the 1500m, because every bit he "may" score with the prostetics, he loses in the start. The 400m is a race done in a few seconds, with first and last sepperated by only 5 seconds taht is about the amount he loses at the start and then has to play catchup the whole race. He is an insperation and I think that he stays with the short distances, because thats where his legs gives him the smallest advantage.
  17. If you wondr why, it is a concentrated stress point. The forces needed to push the chain up to the next ring is normally high. Over time that is where the metal slightly bent each time. This slight bend causes it to become soft and brittle. It may be caused by someone that pushes quite hard on the lever, but most of the times people replace the parts before it becomes defect. It could also have been caused by the punching proses in which they produce the plate. during the punch proses there could have been something in the press, that caused a stress point to form. If this happend in the first year or 2, then they would have been interested.
  18. You see, the CSA commisaires do not let any licenced rider regester on race day. Try and compalain and they just say, "you wanted to be licenced, so you should do the effort to regester on the days before"
  19. And again the regestration is only on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between 9am and 4pm, do they think cyclist dont work or do they expect us to take a days leave just to regester for their race!
  20. Go on to Road Bike Review forum, they have about 6 threads dedicated to china frames and I did a lot of research before I got one. Really good quality from most of them, communication not the best at times, but they do deliver. Only thing to remember, judge it as a R6000 bike and not a R18000 bike, otherwise you will always be dissapointed.
