  1. Nellie - are you doing Tour de Vino on the tandem?
  2. Hectic mdk!!! That has to be flippen scary You bet, heard those guys do 200m in about 10 secs

  4. I dont have the latest rates but can tell you that the fees vary depending on the time of the year - i.n.o. an event in September is far cheaper than late December which in turn is cheaper than Jan and Feb. Besides their "advertsing" costs I actually dont have too much of a problem with their fees versus service that is delivered to the organisor.
  5. I believe that PPA are doing best they can when it comes to assisting the organisors when it comes to putting the events together but I dont beleive that the easy entry thing is the correct way to go. Each event is differant and so to should be the costs. The organisors should also be allowed to set their own entry fees as why should riders doing the 20 km and 40 km pay the same amount as those doing the 80km?
  6. I think so...a ride is successful one year' date=' and suddenly the next year organizers think they can milk it just a little bit more. Seems to occur when rides are part of a bigger festival in an area.[/quote'] Sorry Homer but I dont agree with you on that. The West Coast Express and many others donate the funds to charities or use it for cycling. The WCE, since its inception has donated more than R 100 000.00 to Table View based charities. None of the surplus funds raised from the WCE goes into any private pocket. We do keep some of the money back but that is in a kitty in case we dont get a main sponsor for the next years event. On the point of excessive fees, yes with the CSA thing it is getting way to expensive and that puts pressure on organisations like ours and the risk factor is increasing by the year. Costs are also huge and it burns me huge when I see a R 20 000.00 traffic cop bill for the WCE.
  7. Shhhhhhh even though my boet and I cannot believe the extra "power" we have with the Q rings on the tandem but I suggest that we not talk about it too much cause we are bound to be slammed by 10 million scientific theories why what we feel is placebo.
  8. bandanna
  9. I am insured with Auto and General and in the past 9 weeks have submitted two claims and was paid out in full both times. The first one was 90% cosmetic damage but parts still usable and I was 100% honest about it. They never did a "material recovery" even though I advised them that the parts could be sold for a small fee. I have subsequently offered them to Pedal and her development crowd. Second claim was for ripped clothing, shoes and broken helmet. This this time they did a "material recovery" and took the un-uasable stuff away. Obviously they though I was taking a chance.
  10. Hey Herdrick must be honest with you ? the technical fights that went on around with fact versus origin of life were just too much for me. At one stage I was wondering if I made mistake but WW assured me that he felt a difference with them Q-rings on his tandem so I took the plunge and you know WATT? We felt the difference and it was a good feeling. Will get back to you later about the teeth Q.
  11. Many thanks WW for fitting the Q-rings and getting the bike back to me ASAP. My boet and I took the 555 EXPRESS on our clubs Saturday breakfast ride, tested the Q-rings and within the first we experienced the following. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> 1. Within the first 100m we felt that the pedaling action was extremely smooth. 2. We had no problem closing down a breakaway. 3. We climbed little Blaauberg hill in big blade. 4. Matter a fact we stayed longer than normal in big blade and found that we could use more gears before having to change down. 5. Had no problem maintaining 40km/h (even though we are unfit) on a flat road. 6. Standing and pedaling was easier. Well the above was flat road and next week we will be tackling some hills and lets see what happens.
  12. No flowers???
  13. I vote that ACT year on year alternates detour and normal
  14. But my question is rather what happens when you hit the ground? How big a role does the chin strap play then? RodTi, When playing with your life there is only one way as wearing it any other way will cause you to have to relearn the alphabet. A good quality snug fitting helmet can save your life. It did save mine when I hit the tar at plus 40km/h in the worst position ever - piloting a tandem. Pics on https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=15577
  15. Eish - I have heard that carbon forks are not 100% reccomended and worries me as I have one. I have heard that many of the Yanks replace the skewers with the old nut and bolt system. To speed the fixing of punctures they drill another hole in the rim and place a second tube in the tire and then inflate the second tube. Dont ask me how they know which one punctured.
