  1. My boy plays for a very very big rugby school. Still playing thirds, but is young so has three years of school left to make it into firsts if he wants to. He absolutely loves playing rugby, and I love the fact that he is doing something that he loves. The day he stops loving it will be the day we encourage him to stop playing and find something else that he loves. You can’t relive your failed dreams through your children.
  2. Not familiar with the specifics of that situation, but any company that loses a lot of its major customers in a short space of time would struggle to stay running.
  3. Travelled to Scotland for the Tour de Ben Nevis this weekend. Brutal and brilliant. Almost 8 hours to do 52 K’s. 86 minutes of carrying the bike through swamp and bogs. Brilliant
  4. We were in Cavtat, near Dubrovnik
  5. A local bike shop and a local butcher are both locally owned, specialised retailers and service providers. Both are under threat from large corporations and supermarket type stores, where the profit generated does not stay in the community in which the business is located.
  6. Unfortunately that is the general consensus these days. Buy globally and then complain as our local economies go through the floor. By local I mean the LBS, the butcher, the greengrocer etc etc. Historically, by supporting local stores who in turn support other local stores etc, then we have community and local growth. By buying everything for the cheapest possible price from international businesses, we do the opposite. Not saying you are wrong, just pointing out the inevitable decline of local retail and the centralisation of profit that results.
  7. Actually well done canyon for replacing the first two frames without even asking if they had been misused.
  8. Good luck boss. Must feel odd after all this time
  9. Probably back-strap. Best meat you will find on an animal.
  10. Trying beef rib for the first time. Been preparing tonight. Homemade rub, half a bottle of wine, I’ll leave it till Saturday and then cook it and see.
  11. **** - that is a lot of cash
  12. In Croatia on holiday. Rented an entry level ghost with 3X8 gears. Nice bike on the road. Not so lekker on the rough stuff. Stunning place to cycle though
  13. Don’t know if I agree with Stretch. I moved for the family, definitely not myself. If it was just me, I would be riding around groenkloof this afternoon. [emoji605] . Couldn’t handle the thought of my daughter one day driving at night alone around Gauteng. Agree with all the points on clarity of any agreement that you make with her that have been suggested. What a tough decision. I wish you well.
  14. So, just an update. I returned the helmet yesterday. I wasn’t getting the battery life that I was looking for, was getting about 90 minutes on a full charge. I had bought it for long road rides, so not suitable for that. Also was incredibly warm to wear, perhaps because we’re having a heatwave. Anyway, will buy one again closer to winter purely for commuting when it is a bit darker. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  16. It does, but also works with Apple Watch, so hand signals can activate the lights. No idea on battery life yet. Haven’t had a chance to read the manual etc just yet. Will do so when I finish work. £149 here, no idea in SA.
  17. Just arrived today. Super excited to try it out.
  18. And a few bucks on eBay gets you the ability to double that 25 km/h limit. Let’s not fool ourselves that the engines are somehow just compensating for the extra weight and age. Four of my mates now have pedelecs or whatever. Three of them are my age, fit, strong, fast and skilful. All four have bypassed the limiters and go flying up hills at ridiculous speeds, to be fair to allow them to get more of the downhill runs in. I don’t ride with them anymore as I can’t even hope to try and stay anywhere near them. None of them want to enter races, and all four of them see their ebikes for what they are - a means to get to the top of a hill in order to have fun going down. 19. Motorbikes are fun too
  20. A bad braai beats a great indoor meal any day China
  21. Lights make a big difference - what on Earth do you have that weighs 2.5 kg?
  22. That’s not lekker
  23. PS - well done guys on finalising/ almost finalising
  24. Have been too busy to really get stuck into the hub recently, so catching up this week. A lot of movement since the beginning of this thread. Glad you guys are moving forward. As I said in an earlier post, lots of thought provoking comments on here. Just reflecting on the monogamy/polygamy/swinging/oxen naaing part of the thread.. this truly is a mixed up world we live in. Not sure who is right or wrong, but personally I would have zero interest in a relationship outside of the marriage. Couldn’t live with the guilt.
