  1. Yeah i do squats...but body weight squats...so no weights...no machines. I have a leg regimen i do once a week that involves variations of squats and lunges. I dont only do cycling so cycling helps me very little in my other activities which require a bit more explosive power. So its a mix for me...but i stay away from the weights...your training needs to be functional.
  2. Yup, been in contact with him already for my next service. He contacted me personally so I look forward to supporting him!
  3. No...funny enough...get better service there and they're a bigger establishment.
  4. You're so "Enduro"
  5. yeah sure
  6. hahaha....i think this has discussion gone too far!
  7. I know and understand that.
  8. And I thank you!
  9. Take some time to read what I said. I said there is no "NEED" to countersteer. What would be the purpose of counter steering at walking speed? Dont depend on other people to make your point. So i dont have to go to Sliicks post to address something you said. What "you" are saying is nonsensical. Of course you can apply countersteering methods at any speed....but its not necessary. Do you understand that? And let me explain another thing to you. In motorcycle racing, they dont have to try and counter steer, because the technique of leading into the corner with the shoulder and looking through the corner changes the position of shoulders, directly affecting the input on your bars = countersteer. Dont mistake countersteering with weight shifting.
  10. Ok. You trying to confuse everyone with alot of technical jargon which doesnt make alot of sense. I raced motorcycles, and have been riding for years....your reference to MotoGP makes no sense....so you misunderstand the concept when it comes to Motorcycle racing. Again, at slow speed...there is no need to countersteer. Wheelbase issue....lolol....just drop it man... I will try and leave it here. Maybe in future, make reference to something that you actually have a bit of knowledge about. No offence intended...but lets talk sense here rather
  11. Ok, when you refer to countersteering and 2 wheels(in your case you referred to motorcycles) you have to take a few factors into consideration. Enough speed, enough lean angle, and enough/proper weight distribution. That said, when you are trying to turn bicycle in a parking lot, you wont need to countersteer...theres no need to because 1. you dont have enough speed 2. you dont have enough lean angle 3. YOUR IN A PARKING LOT...HOW FAST CAN YOU POSSIBLY BE GOING!.........Caps off...lol You are not shortening any wheelbase. With motorcycle racing, you balance out the effect of the wheelbase by entering a cornering at speed obviously, but to first apply the rear brake before you apply the front brake(proportionately obviously). This will cause the effect of lengthening the wheelbase, and then shortening it by applying the front brake. You dont want to shorten your base at high speed. Twitchy steering at highspeed is the opposite of what you want. Hope this makes more sense to you now...
  12. No. Your not making sense regarding the wheelbase issue. Maybe you're saying it wrong. Countersteering effects cannot be measured in a parking lot. I dont think you properly understand counter steering.
  13. Countersteering has no effect( or negligible effect) at slow speeds.
  14. Ja..........i dont think so. Braking technique shortens the effect of the wheelbase, not countersteering. Countersteering has very little to do with what you are saying. Do you ride a motorcycle?
  15. Had the same thing....just bought another hub. Kept the rim and fork. Cheapest way to go
  16. Yes it was agreed, in fact, he had the bike from the Thursday evening, so that i could pick it up the Saturday morning to go for a ride... But even still...to pull your own bike in for a service while you have a customer standing there and waiting....uncool. I think im too polite when it comes to to that kinda thing...
  17. Nah Dips...I dont want to do that. There are many other shops to go . I'm more trying to get a feel as to how far our loyalty as customers goes regarding our smaller LBS establishments
  18. Had my bike at a LBS recently for a service and left there kinda cheesed off. Booked my bike in the previous day for a service and couple of adjustments....get there the next day....and nothings been done. So i wait there....for a couple of hours... while i watch the owner working on a couple other bikes first...so i dont bother too much....then he pulls in his own personal bike in and starts servicing it. at this point im quite irritated but keep my cool. So firstly...i was a paying customer...so he wasnt doing me any favours. secondly, i took the bike there the previous day already. I really want to support the smaller establishments....but this okes priorities was way off! I dont think im being petty when i expect the same kind of service from a big or small establishment. He should maybe service his own while no one is watching....
  19. Yes and no. I think they see the bigger picture. Marathon type riding is big in SA and growing, and anyone can get into, and do so with minimal risk...which generally means repeat sales. You cannot expect a LBS not to go the route that makes them money. It will cost them money to push the less mainstream stuff. You cant blame the LBS for that. Harley Davidson had a similar issue with Buell Motorcycles. They had to pump millions into getting Buell on the same level as Harley Davidson, and in the end they just binned it and stuck to what they did best....Harleys. Erik Buell then started up Buell on his own, and now has somewhat of a cult following. The price and reward for being different. I personally would not recommend a first timer to get into DH or "Enduro".
  20. Yup....on the money. The problem with these kind of threads is that you get DH and "Enduro" guys mostly commenting on these threads. Its already been determined what the 29er is good for. The other thing is that most new MTBers will lean towards a 29er because they often start out doing less technical type riding, and then end up asking valid questions on the Hub and get hammered(especially on Fridays....hehe) But like you said...theres alot more to it than JUST wheelsize
  21. Did a ride last week with a mate, and both of us were on 29ers, his a Titan Carbon Race, mine a GT Zaskar Pro. we then swapped for a bit. Compared to mine, his steered like a donkey and was lank uncomfortable! My Zaskar is as nimble(for my style of riding) as my full sus 26er. built mine from the ground up, so i have the parts on there that i actually want on there. If you think that when you put the 26 and 29 together, and you apply the same power to the crank , that there'll be no difference, then you've confused yourself. The "just get stronger and ride more" statement is also getting old. If you dont ride or like 29ers, theres really noting wrong with that. Its got nothing to do with buying into the "bs marketing". My money....my time....I determine how I enjoy riding, what i enjoy riding. Period. 26...27.5....29....it doesnt really matter....just enjoy the ride....whatever you choose.
  22. Agree with this. Also, what would help is previous finishing times...with maybe an average estimated finishing time over the various distances. For me, this helps with planning nutrition for a race. Great idea!
  23. This is the comparison(or pretty much...not my own info...but from a website): XTR - X0, XX XT - X9 SLX - X7 DEORE\ALIVIO - X5 Any spec lower than that is irrelevant. Mid spec goodies are more durable but heavier, with high end goodies being lighter(negligible) but not as durable. So X9\XT are on the same level and generally the way to go if your not trying win races. To win races all you need is a 29er jokes I run X7 shifters, X9 crank, X0 RD.
