  1. No. I went over the top, to the old shebeen and back in a gravel bike. Not ideal but do-able.
  2. Frame, bars, seat, seatpost, shifters, rear derailleur, rear wheel, one pedal, brake hoses etc are all write-offs. Bottle cages look good though.....
  3. Thanks, but by the time we got to town, parked and walked to rhe start, time was too tight to have made the start.
  4. Ja, well, at least I can plan what to replace it with and Big John has offered to transfer my entry to next year. They also said that they would find me a bike to do the medio if I wanted. It seemed like a great event and we watched the leaders come through at the turn near Cango. As I said last year, I'll do it next year.
  5. I have stopped laughing so time to give my race report. After an uneventful drive from Jo'burg, a lovely pre-race dinner, a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast, we set off for the start and decided to go via the pass to refresh the climb in my memory. Near Droe Waterval the ominous clank-clank alerted us to something unusual happening behind us in the dark. Yip, instead of the bike dragging me up the hill, the car was dragging it down the hill. Instead of the ride I had a few beers and felt better.
  6. The monster awaits......
  7. Maybe I should publish a picture ...... Had to drag myself out to Spartan to collect the box at 3 this afternoon
  8. Bag Packed; Tyres Pumped; Brake pads replaced; Bike washed; Chain lubed; Chamois cream bought; Dinner eaten and getting into bed, ready for my early morning departure to the Groot Karoo.... Drive safely people.
  9. The Canyon website shows the price in USD and without EU VAT. ie. it is already subtracted when you see the price if you are in SA
  10. What are they ??
  11. I wish I could but my parcel has been stuck in the UPS warehouse in Kemptonpark for 10 days and they are absolutly useless in explaining where my parcel is. It contains the two Gravel tyres and SwissStop brake pads I need for the Swartberg Gran Fondo this weekend. Leaving for Prince Albert tonight so if nothing by 10 this morning, panic buying will set in.
  12. You guys are an inspiration to a guy me who is only tackling the 170km of the Swartberg Gran Fondo this weekend. I'll think of you when I battle up the pass on Saturday.
  13. Power meter ? Did it come with one, what is it and how did you specify it ?
  14. Me too I think I will be be burning more calories than I can carry wth me, so food will be important. The race details mention 4 water points. Can anyone tell we what to expect at the water points as far as food and drink goes ?

  18. Look forward to doing it again
  19. No, I priced some of it and if you take the cost of the frame and buy the same wheels locally, it will cost more than the bike from Canyon and the duties. Basically the group-set comes free.
  20. What did you get ?????
