    RIFLE

I suppose a .40 will work on a bushpig, bushbuck or jackal, but ask guys of my generation and they will tell you that nothing short of a ZU-23 will stop a Ratel.
  2. Exactly. Does not deal with the substantive issue, just plays the victim as the issue of jurisdiction was dealt with in all the proceedings
  3. Why ? It is a tarred road and although hilly is built for standard motor vehicles. I am not sure why a "standard road groupset" is considered unusual as I am close to 60, have a BMI of late 20s, and did it a week or two ago on a 1990s steel road bike with a 53/39 and 11/23 cassette. I did a 2h23 a year or two ago on the same bike. A road bike is the appropriate tool for the job.
  4. So mistakes were made, things you wish you had done differently and things are regretted. If you trully regret them JB, why not tell us what these mistakes were, how you had done things and how you should have done things differently ? Instead you take a technical point around jurisdiction and maintain that you are a victim unfairly persecuted by the authority that prosecuted you. I have one with bells on for you to pull.
  5. But...... It led to one of the great threads in the hub, introduced us to a real character who faced up to his 'Roid past, and everybody from 475th in the Epic moved up one place.
  6. Based on some recent posts in the "Hot off the press" thread, we should just send a group of bigger guys around and beat them up.
  7. With Rouxenator : Trans Karoo. A pain in the backside literally and also logistically, but what a wonderful ride. With Andrew Steer : Alpine Heath, or as it was called, Alpine Heath Extreme Mountain bike Challenge. The first MTB ride I ever did..
  8. My daughters are at UCT and it is only right that I visit them near the start of the academic year to ensure that they are well set up for the year. The second week of March seems to me to be just about the perfect time to go and check up on them...….
  9. When I was rowing in the 80's the rule was that if any rower got bust, his crew got struck off the results. There is a strong disincentive to do things that will alienate you from your closest mates (as crew mates are *) and a strong incentive for self policing within the group. * The bonds are so strong that even though we rowed together 30 years ago I had coffee with one this morning, am riding with another tomorrow and shared a birthday with a third last week. I would have died before doing something that threatened their hard work. Imagine if all 8 riders in a tour team were eliminated from a race because one of them got popped how vigilant they would be of one another's behavior.
  10. https://ewn.co.za/2018/10/11/saids-doping-in-school-rugby-alarming 6 guys popped for Anabolic steroids at Craven week
  11. I'm a MAN, but a straight one. Do you have a TinderMTB ride for us ?
  12. Did the MAN ride from Design in Motion cycles in Morningside yesterday and rode the SBR loop with two strangers who turned out to be JCZA and Shaper. Good meeting two Hubbers IRL.
  13. I have seen that too and once did it myself after a riding partner had a mechanical. We rode down at little more than walking pace where the riding was blind and only just faster when the road was clear. I have however seen folk bomb down and that is just irresponsible.
  14. It is actually a coloboration between DeusExMachina custom cycles and Cinelli and fits a niche that we don't have in South Africa : a good city bike. Deus do a nice custom range, albeit a bit too hipster for me, but if you lived in Clifton and wanted a bike to ride to the promenade at Three Anchor Bay, it would be a nice option.

    Rugby...

The comments are brilliantly one-eyed. The article makes the point that the ABs were physically bashed in the tackle and made mistakes by being put under pressure by the Boks' rush defence, but if I had a buck for each guy who misses the point and says "losing by 2 points is not a bashing" I'd be on a new Colnago now.

I suspect that his sarcasm font was broken and you have missed it..

    Gumtree Classics

Hmmmm, I enjoyed it in the 80s. At the price of a restaurant meal, maybe I should look to spend a couple of hundred rand and get myself an old rig to play with on holiday
  19. Post a picture of her bicycle....
  20. Frustratingly but progress made.
  21. Thanks, G
  22. Spent two hours with the Mediator this morning
  23. Did not ride there but I can see no reason why not. The spruit trails are in good condition and I have never had a problem with a CX bike.
  24. Rode the stretch from Sprocket & Jack to top of Emmarentia via Alberts Farm and back today. No worries on a gravel bike.
