  1. December. Up and over from the south. It is always a great feeling cresting the hill as you know that it is one of the toughest road climbs in SA.
  2. So if the KOM is at an average of about 16 kph for the 8 km climb it can't be too flat....,

I am not following this, but how did Brad Binder go in GP 2?
  5. Absolutely, but shopping cleverly over time one can acquire all the bits needed to build up a bike. In this case, when people started "upgrading" to 11 speed, I picked up a 10 speed set cheaply. When people started going for wide MTB rims, I found a perfectly good but narrow set of wheels. When you could buy hydraulic Disk brake specific road systems, I took a set of unused cable to hydraulic calipers off someone. In fact, the bike is built up out of "obsolete" components at around a third of what "state of the art" would have cost. With time and a good idea of what you want, the classifieds are your friend.
  6. I suppose it is time to start training
  7. Could not agree more.....
  8. We knew him as a Hub legend but it was clear that there were many other spheres were he was similarly held in high regard. I am walking my dog down to The Foundry for a Guinness or two on TW's behalf as I couldn't get to Grapes. Edit: Guinness attached
  9. I rhink that you only need one spot on the route where the wind catches a bunch in a gust at a bad angle and brings down one rider in each group that passes and you have a catastrophe. I alaways wonder why the race is wedded to a date that is likely to have unpredictable weather.
  10. Actually not true. All filtering possible. Your problem is Tapatalk not your phone.
  11. Me too.
  12. Thinking of you B. Get well soon
  13. Not wrong, just with a sense of entitilement and unrealistic expectations. I recently advertised a good deal on a sought-after frame. I anwered each PM as they came in and told them where they were in the sequence. The first person in line paid my asking price sight unseen and I eventually shipped it off to him. I chose to do so because it suited me. Nobody had any right to expect that I would prefer their custom.
  14. Clearly the buyer was capable of negotiating an earlier meeting. Why don't you figure out a way of doing the same next time? Until you have a contract you have no rights. There is of course no problem with you agreeing a contract of option (and paying for it) until you can view and buy it. If the deal is as good as you say, taking a punt on an option would be a clever move.
  15. Hey, beggars can't be choosers. When your ship comes in you can buy her a Ti one and give the Niner one to a derserving home. At least it is better that what you ar expecting her to ride with at the moment.
  16. I am so offended by the fugly bar that I will drop a Niner bar at Mikes for you tomorrow. Sies man.
  17. I can already hear the whining from my brother. He did a 2:48 from F group in 94.7 and I did a 3:48 (on a dikwiel) from one of the open groups. He did a 3:19 Argus last year and I did a 3:39. He is in group 2E (7:05) and I am in 2J (7:17) He is going to be sooo miserable
  18. Ah, but I already have 2x10 XX. My question above was other than the loss of FD and left hand shifter which looks cooler, why should I spend R28k to end up in the same position I am now except for bigger gaps in the ratio. I have learnt : Can mount dropper post on HB - valid argument, but I don't have a dropper; Reduces or eliminates chain suck - valid argument; Simplifies shifting - Mmmm, not so sure. The way I use my 2x10 is basically two 1x10 set-ups. If the terrain is flattish or rolling or downhill, I shift once to the big ring and moderate cadence/effort by moving up and down the cassette. If the terrain is primarily uphill or I need quick but limited acceleration, I move to the small ring and move up and down at the back. I try not to cross chain but either way the angle is not as acute as on a 1x albeit that that chain is designed to accommodate it. But that is just me. 1x12 gives same range as 2x10 - OK, but is it worth R28k to get the same; The gaps between ratios are bigger but that is apparently not noticeable and reduced by going 12x. Accepted, I have noticed it when fitting a 40 tooth to by Gravel grinder when touring in the berg. I know somebody who has invested in Eagle having run 1x happily and successfully for a year or so. Maybe I can ask him for a test drive.
  19. This is a genuine question as I still run 2x10 on my XC bike. Other than it looks cool and removes the need for being able to use a FD, why is having a narrower range with bigger jumps better ?

  21. I'm also selling one, but mine is a better deal as it is a proven lifesaver ????
  22. To me that sounds like the Guptas only wanting their bank accounts back but are not prepared to seek the court's assistance and for the same reason; they don't want their version subjected to scrutiny and cross examination. If a professional's negligence cost me 18 months of a short sportsman's career and my good reputation for ever, I can see only one reason NOT to seek redress and that is because I don't want my story ridiculed in the open.
  23. You are easy to satisfy. I want to see a malpractice conviction before the HSPC and a successful claim in delict before I even start listening to a doper's story.
