  1. I will be riding durbanville (contermans, hillcrest, meerendal, ets) on Sat 24th, Mon 26th, Wed 28th... Start around 6:00 ride between 1 and 3 hrs. Anyone welcome to join. I know trhe area quite well and can adapt rides to suit experience and fitness levels.
  2. I am a Vet, I ride MTB and my wife says I am in the top 10...does that count?
  3. Don't drop Contermanskloof. It is great riding. If anything drop Table Mountain. I will be riding most days in the Durbanville area and am really familiar with the trails. Happy to ride with anyone (don't mind slowing down or waiting) Re:Caerus - as we will be meeting anyway, I would love to show you the Durbanville trails. I am on Holiday from 23rd to 3rd.
  4. 50" yip. Printing error on frames. They actually meant 50cm compact frame geometry not 50 inch. Virtual size is about 55cm. I have ridden giants for many years and am quite familiar with their fit. At 1.81 and 86 cm inseam you are bordering on too large for a medium frame. These bikes have quite aggressive geometry (in 2008 they became slightly less aggressive), but this frame is the 2006 version, so low front end. Your saddle will sit around 12-14cm above your bars (looking at the steerer length). Top tube length may not be a major problem as these bikes have a 55.5cm virtual top tube length. Anyway, looking at the current setup the frame looks way too small for the rider. But that is just my opinion. The price of R4500 is excellent if the bike is in good condition. BUT never buy a bike just because the price is good. It must fit properly. Many people are looking so hard for a bargain they forget to make sure the bike is even the right size. Good luck anyway.
  5. Good thing this is an 18+ forum not a family forum. If you prefer we can rephrase and say " those small aluminium things that connect the spoke to the rims" but that would just lose the effect. I think it is great that we all keep abreast of what is allowed and what is not allowed on this thread anyway.
  6. Good job on the wheels hope she gets all those nipples clean
  7. NOTE TO MYSELF: this is oak valley not oak lane cottages. Was trying to visualise the route at lebanon. I am seriously keen to do this. (with a team) Have loads of night riding experience and lighting so keen to put something together.(4 man team)
  8. If it is the standard sealed headset bearing I have plenty of new ones in my garage. If you feel like driving out to Durbanville i will sell them to you for R 20.00 each. The ones I have come from fsa headsets.
  9. And so once again the Hub is the real winner?
  10. I can think of one reason why you should change your seatpost
  11. my 40th birthday present to myself ( few month ago)

  13. A bit late on my previous reply. Good luck with your new bike i am sure you will be very pleased. I got my anthem 29er yesterday and can't wait to take her for a spin.
  14. Personally, as a mountain biker I loath at the idea of too many names on my clothes, other that the manufacturer, [cough, vermark] of course. But the idea of fake anything gets under my skin and irritates the crud out of me. For those who buy fakes because they want to look good and just cant afford the real thing...no hope for you... and for those who buy fakes thinking it is the real thing....well no hope for you either. Go plain, and use the "KISS' principle- keep it simple, stupid
  15. So, on which side of the fence do you fall:- Yes, its ok because no one knows anyway, or No, it's not ok because it's taking advantage of the uninformed?
  16. You've got to love the power of the hub

  19. So the question then is " Is this a cycling thread or just another waste of time thread?"
