  1. Sorry but I strongly disagree with you on this point. It's a bunch of guys there will always be egos involved. As you said, many sit in the open bunch and suck wheel the entire race when the bunch gets to the last 1km you swear that it's life or death. They come from all sides in all shapes and riding all kinds of fancy bikes to have a chance to win the group and come in 300th place. Last year at the Fast One there was a major crash at the finish line because of this. I actually think it was the A bunch
  2. Doesn't Rule 13 of the race rules answer your question about Vets winning prize money in AL ? Licensed riders taking part in the open/seeded categories will not be eligible to claim any cash/voucher prize should they finish in the top 3 positions of the groups AL or AM. The start list will be checked with the CyclingSA database and an announcement made before your start
  3. Agree, they are so BLOODY useless. Would be nice to have another Apple distributor in SA
  4. and like some others have admitted you have taken marriage advice from a thread titled Advice on Divorce
  5. and if you ever think that you have it all figured out then life will throw you with a curve ball......
  6. I was wondering what people were getting. I got a smoothie in the beginning and the rest have been breakfasts The breakfasts are cheaper then smoothies so I'm guessing that will be the bulk of the prizes.
  7. My guess is that since the shoe booster is R 2000 over 12 months the device booster is R4000 over 24 months. 12 months for every R2000 they "sponsor" us
  8. I'm a Garmin man. The cheapest device (I think) is the FP70 which normally sells 2nd hand for about R700. There was one for sale here some time back but I don't see the ad any more. It's a running watch but it does have a cycling profile on it and all that you are after is a device that can log HR and time. Plenty of Forerunner watches in the classifies that will work for you and are under R2k. If you want new then the Edge 25 sells for R3k on the Garmin website. Might also be a good idea for Vitality to launch their Device Booster and see what's on there.
  9. Sorry to hear about all the splits especially over the festive season. Strongs to all of you going through the various stages of divorce / splitting up. I've been there and done it. In a few days time I'll be divorced for 12 years. There's enough solid advice on this thread already. The only thing that I'd like to add is that the world continues and even though at this stage it may feel as if the world has come to an end it hasn't. Once the divorce has been finalised and the scars begin to heal life will go on. I to felt like the world had come to an end but looking back it was probably one of the best things that ever happened to me. I've been on so many adventures that I wouldn't have gone on if I was still married (granted there would have been different adventures). Just remember that there is a bigger plan for each us. When feeling a little down go for a bike ride and remember to wave at the other cyclists (especially in CT)
  10. I understand what you saying but the opposite is also true. Hammer it for 2 min, take the HR monitor off and a recovery session looks like a tempo session. Looking into my crystal ball I'll predict that eventually they'll use power and then things will be more difficult but I suppose somebody will find a loop hole. Plenty of ways to cheat the system but eventually the cheater will be caught out.
  11. I discovered this one day when my HR monitor stopped working. I was busy with my session and my avg HR was at 60% or 70%+ and then there was nothing for a period of time. Finished with the same avg HR as when it stopped working. The "flaw" is actually on the device side. The device records your HR and works out your avg HR and then if there's nothing it just leaves it there. Suppose that it doesn't know what to use and it can't use zero (because you'd be dead) and so it just stops calculating HR.
  12. If I remember correctly the cap on the fitness device is R2500 I'm guessing that there'll be some list to choose from ??
  13. You had nothing to worry about. You do a lot of riding and spend a lot of time "playing" with your bikes.
  14. These Hubbers need to ride more: 1. Dale - 4448 2. Patchelicious - 3690 3. Gen - 3573 4. Cav' - 2882 5. Pure Savage - 2772 6. Myles Mayhew - 2646 7. gummibear - 1685 8. BaGearA - 1596 9. shaper - 1524 10. rider#35 - 1495
  15. I also got 600 points. I think you only get 1500 if the event is longer than 100km. I got 1500 points for Shova and Carnival City
  16. All good for me at the moment. Can log into the App. This mornings workout is showing.
  17. If you press "VIEW INFO" on the reward it will give you the list. Breakfast Bowl Power Oats Smashed Avo on Toast Almond Butter Toast Dragon Fruit Smoothie Bowl
  18. Seems like every time it's Spin Wednesday their server/s
  19. I can't even log on so there's no spinning for me at this stage.
  20. Then you'd be really popular. Just keep doing what you do and understand that some things are just out of your control.
  21. I wasn't there so I can't state it as a fact but I also have no reason to disbelieve the guy that told me. If they had to disqualify people that crossed the white line I guess that they'd disqualify 30-40% of the field. This would probably result in 30-40% less people entering that particular event the following year and that's where the problem lies - 30-40% less income. I would guess that the Elites also cross the white line and nothing seems to happen there either. Sometimes it's just practical to cross the white line, maybe there's a hole on the left hand side of the road and the whole bunch moves right and then back again but then there are guys that just ride there and when a car comes from the front they squeeze in and that's when a crash often happens. Yesterday in the B bunch it was ok, even though the bunch was big there wasn't much squeezing in besides that time the marshal stopped his bike on the white line.
  22. As far as I'm aware the 3rd challenge only started today so to do 2 x 4 hour rides by 11am seems very dodgy. Suppose they could do 2 x 4hr rides in the same day but that's a bit unlikely IMO. Since we have 2 weeks to complete the challenge it doesn't really matter. Surely it's who has completed the 2 x 4hr rides in the allocated time, shouldn't make a difference if it was achieved in 2 days or in 14 days. Nice to see a hubber winning 1 of the prizes. Hopefully I also win 1
  23. I'm still in but I haven't won any prize yet. Surprisingly I managed the distance challenge (1st one). Did a 70km ride and then the Garmin file was corrupt so I couldn't download it and then rain "forced" an indoor session. I thought that I was out but on the Monday after this challenge ended I received an sms saying that I had completed the 1st challenge. The 2nd (climbing) challenge was easier for me to complete as there were no corrupt files nor rain to interfere with my riding. I've completed that challenge by my calculations. Now we on the 3rd challenge and as long as the rain stays away on the weekends I'll manage the 2 x 4hr rides. That's where the challenge will end for me. I have no intention of booking and going for classes. I am just after one of the mini prizes but so far I have won JACK !!!!
  24. In some races the marshals still tell the bunch to keep left, this marshal said nothing, just parked his bike to the right of the line. He got sworn from a few riders, was very unpopular after that. The problem I have with guys crossing over the line is that when a car comes they move left and squeeze back into the bunch and often it's some poor guy who's riding on the left that gets taken out. Heard that one of the Vets bunch were completely in the right lane (because of the wind) and the cars were overtaking them on the left side of the road.
  25. My 1500 Vitality points have already come through ???? The only problem in the B bunch was the marshall deciding to stop his motorbike to the right of the white line, a few guys almost rode straight into him. No interference from the 65km bunches as they nowhere to be seen for some reason.
